Right off the bat excuse the length of this post, however this is something I believe to be extremely important for the health and stability of a long term franchise like halo. This has come to my attention after seeing confirmation that the season 1 halo infinite cinematic took place during 2552 during the invasion of earth. This brings up a number of contradictions to the lore that span continuity, art style, and overall narrative. To give a few examples, the weapons the brutes are using are not what was encountered during the human covenant war, spartan 4’s were not present until the pre war era. Although this is only a cutscene (and a very good one at that) I believe this brings up a very important issue that many are seemly unconcerned with.
Star Wars is a franchise that has SEVERE continuity issues, for those not aware the lore has been fragmented into two separate timelines, while certain parts of the lore are being retconned and other reintroduced back into official “cannon”. As a lifelong Star Wars fan this has unfortunately pushed me farther away from the franchise because I feel as if the overarching story that encompasses this entire fictional world has no permanence. Certain stories, artistic direction, and pieces of lore have unfortunately become the victim of too much artistic liberty. Certain things that you expect to remain similar, lore or art direction wise can often become unfamiliar and confusing.
While halo doesn’t seem to have as large of an issue, I fear that the case could be just as bad for halo as it is currently in other franchises. 343 has made an amazing shift in artsyle and narrative towards something that is recognizable as halo and from what we know so far halo infinite continued along the halo continuity in a way that doesn’t force it to fracture timelines and whatnot. However, in order for Halo to remain strong lore and continuity wise, art style and lore choices that are recognizable from certain time periods i.e) battle of earth, battle of reach,human-forerunner war era must be respected. (You wouldn’t expect banished banshees to be flying overhead in a cutscene referencing halo combat evolved) The more recognizable certain art choices are, the easier it will be for players to distinguish time periods and to further solidify stories that 343 wishes to tell, especially when they are stories spanning many years/settings. Problems with this were encountered during halo 4’s opening cutscene where spartans wore gen-2 armor etc. and this is not just a repeat offence but worse, seeing as halo 4 only broke lore from a art perspective.
Now is this the biggest deal ever? No. Does it go a long way in solidifying halo’s timeline and allowing for suspension of disbelief, immersion, and building a solid and strong story for Halo? Yes. I am well aware cost, outsourcing and a number of other reasons are to blame for in cutscene and in game in continuity, however the effort made to respect prior art choices when halo’s lore spans such a vast period of time does wonders in building a recognizable and strong story. Even though I thought the cutscene told a good story and was very halo, I couldn’t take it seriously after realizing how severely it broke the lore.
Thank you for listening, tell me your thoughts. See you all on infinite!
The way I look at it, the Season 1 trailer was a multiplayer-centric trailer, so I do understand why they decided to show off the Mark VII. It appears to be the primary Halo: Infinite multiplayer armor, which is great since it look absolutely amazing, so it would stand to reason that the trailer for the first season of MP would feature it. I guess you could try to tie it in with the lore by imagining it being a squad of S-IIIs testing the Mark VII GEN 1 (just like Naomi was doing). As for the Brutes though, yeah those Pulse Rifles don’t really belong there. At the very least, the trailer used the Covenant Phantom and not the Banished one, so that was lore-accurate.
They need to start bringing the stories from the books to the game. This would allow the general audience to learn the lore and therefore make it matter more while having fractures for hard casuals.

We do not know the context of the trailer nor the year. I would wait for more information before taking assumptions much further.

They did that for Halo 5 and I believe for Halo Infinite too. Nothing wrong with outsourcing Forge IMO.
It makes sense to use assets instead of make them for the scene but they have H2A assets they could have given to axis for reference. This feels like a choice to get the mpmkvii cover art in the trailer.
Despite the fact halo is synonymous with mkvi at this point.
Dont think it hurts marketing to be lore accurate. But it hurst fan reception when they aren’t.
They also have gen1 cores at launch correct?
This is the same situation we say with h4 prologue (FYI that was MKVI gen1 cmod) and the fact the repeated the same mistake and keep abandoning hanging lore threads in game while also making out that they care about lore and have integrated the mp into the EU all makes 343i look incompetent.
Same goes for the fall of reach animated film.
I’m worried the didact and cortanas logic plague arcs will be abandoned.
Lack of coop suggests they dropped blue team.
Despite the complaints of their inclusion in 5 being entirely predicated on poor implementation, as was the case for most lore in halo 4.
Not very pleased with Atriox’s newfound humanity must die attitude either.
Some things can be left unspoken in lore also it rather we had the janus key be forgotten about than escalations treatment same for black team.
Like it didn’t make the didact any cooler or threatening by killing them off screen for those who don’t like him.
Because that demographic didn’t know black team either.
All it did was show EU readers no respect in how it handled black team and the didact.
At least copies in London wasnt lore breaking.
But the use of those assets sucked.
Could have used H2A assets as reference for the animation and used particle and volumetric effects to cover any fidelity inconsistencies.
Mk7 prototypes didn’t get tested until 2553.
Dont give us lore if you don’t want to take it seriously is my take.

Thats what they have done in every game they released only issue is the have failed to do so with halfway decent execution
We do, go readbthe blog post.
Outsourcing isn’t the issue correct. It may be a factor sure but the issue is the assets they provide axis for the animations.
The work done with the assets is stellar.

Which blog post? I have not seen anything that added more detail to the time/location of the Season 1 trailer. Also, they only add the bare minimum lore to the gameplay experience. I am referring to a Campaign quality mission not Spartan Ops.

Theres a tweet about the trailer that had a link to an official trailer description.
It is also the video description on YT go to the latest cannon fodder and click the trailer.
London 2552 confirmed.
I’m lost mate? Halo 4 and 5 are predicated on EU lore as a whole?
4: prologue spartan 2 program interview, anti iny origins.
Geass, composers, ancient humanity, didacts logic plague and lack of faith in the array as it is an affront to the mantle, the return of forerunners to the mantle, rampancy, the mantle as a concept. The librarian and didact.
5: logic plague, the domain, the assembly, the early war references of AI going hostile as explanation for the copies before they were known. Blue team.
They hinge on EU but were done so with laughable execution.
Take the didact and blue teams characterisation for example.

I understand that the lore from the books obviously crosses over to the game however the implementation has been incredibly poor. Blue team is the best example on how poor the transition was. I feel like you misunderstood my reply above when it was primarily focused on quote “Star Wars is a franchise that has SEVERE continuity issues”. The problem with the Halo universe is how much deep lore is never tapped into outside of being referenced. The attention and detail on it’s implementation to the games are usually poor.
I am referring to what month regarding the date/time since that is incredibly important. Where did it specifically state the location? I am unable to find this information. It most likely is EU however I have not found information on this outside of the landmark (which could be on another planet possibly).
Edit: Checked sources and unable to find 2552 confirmation.

Whya are you just parroting back my points like they are somehow different?
My entire point is execution is poor?
Star wars has a working continuity and one that was abandoned.
Halo has a single one full of errors and contradiction it is as if not more broken than star wars seeing as legends EU is no longer cannon.
But entire campaigns being follow ups to EU stories is a bit more than mere reference.
Thats like saying the last jedi references episode 6.
4 is as much a sequel to the Greg bear novels as it is the halo trilogy…
The “deep” lore is the basis of the entire narrative in its case.
Same for halo 5.
They can’t name drop every event and character thats equally poor writing.
Both integrated poorly but the attempted elements were as deep as it goes.
Month and time date won’t make any real difference. Its october/november
The year is 2552, the covenant were on earth a month. Before the portal to the ark in Africa was activated.
We already know Spartans were in Cuba and covies in Mexico so to find them searching Europe is not even a little out of lore character. Just like in shadows of reach, they don’t know the portals exact location.
Theres no cannon reason to not have Spartans in London. Only issue is the mjolnir and weapons and covie armours.
I’ll be back with a source. Heres the Axis studios page with video description. London 2552 confirmed.

Whya are you just parroting back my points like they are somehow different? —> Huh? I am not?
My entire point is execution is poor? —> Where did you even get this from? I am so confused.
We do know some Spartans were not on Reach, and I believe a few might of been on Earth, but that would be going down an assumption hole unless we have concrete information on the year.
Unless I’m missing something, then blog post hasn’t confirmed the timeline of the trailer. 2552 isn’t mentioned anywhere unless it has been edited out. I imagine one of two scenarios playing out.
343 disregards pre-established canon and shoe horns SIVs and MKVII in the battle of earth 2552. - A second battle of Earth took place in 2558 and the trailer takes place after the events of Infinite which could be anywhere after 2061 giving Laurette somewhat reasonable amount of time to rise in rank.

The problem with the Halo universe is how much deep lore is never tapped into outside of being referenced. The attention and detail on it’s implementation to the games are usually poor.

I read back over our entire discourse. And yeah it reads like you are just responding to my points with the same point. Not sure why you think I misunderstood anything you said don’t really know what to add to that point.
We have more than one source in EU for Spartans not being on reach, and on earth.
We have a confirmed year of 2552.
If this is a troll it was well executed.
UnheardCARNAGE Theres a link in cannon fodder to the axis site and they provide a narrative breakdown.
This is as simple as 343i providing assets to axis from infinite to make a marketing video for mp seasons. The inclusion of mkvii is due to that being the cover art for halo infinite mp. Theres nothing more to it.
Not making new covie assets is understandable. Not using existing gen1 cores from infinite less so. Ideally axis would have got H2A reference assets for the 2552 section and kept 2560 part as is.
The inconsistencies in this trailer don’t ruin the game for me or anything but it is odd. I said this when the trailer first dropped, but it’s like having a game or movie set in the 1950s and having a character have a flashback to Nazis invading New York City where they’re saved by Vietnam era soldiers.
I just don’t understand why you’d go to such great lengths building this in-depth expanded universe that people can believe in, if you’re just going to disregard what’s been set up and break immersion for the people you managed to sell on it. You’ve crafted a well fleshed out universe that’s evolved over time, why not highlight that instead of ignoring it?
Honestly, the thing that baffles me most is that they had this same exact situation in Halo 4 and got the same exact backlash about it. Not sure what they expected this time around. It’s literally the whole ‘learn from history or be destined to repeat it’ ideology in action.

I looked through the articles searching for “2552” and found nothing. I would love to know what source you found to “confirm” this. Not sure how you think it was a troll when you cannot even show me the source of the date and location.

Ultimately its nothing new and lore was more messed up by bungie so 343i can’t be blamed for being any worse than them.
But it feels opposed to their mantra of bringing the EU and Games together so its just a shame.
I’ve adopted another users head cannon that these inconsistencies aren’t actually flash backs but are actually unsc propaganda based on real events for morale due to the created uprising.
Danumis I told you I’d edit in my source. Its there and the fact you can’t find it makes me hope you are a troll…

Literally nowhere in what you linked is a source to the information. Stop trying to call me a troll when it’s the furthest from reality. Are you trolling me? You cannot even link a specific source. I have stated I have searched for it and did not find it across the platform. The recent Canon Fodder states nothing about a year or place if that’s what you are referring too. So again, please link me the article if it exists since I am beginning to believe it doesn’t like I originally thought. I am just trying to confirm things and you are making this way too complicated and drama filled.

Directed by Jon Yeo, our latest trailer for 343 Industries introduces a key new character as part of the much-anticipated Season 1 of Halo Infinite multiplayer. Having developed a close relationship and collaborated many times with 343 Industries, we were thrilled to deliver another cinematic release for the Halo franchise.
Focusing on the recollections of Spartan Commander Laurette Agryna, the trailer delves into her own heroic journey as a young girl caught in the crosshairs of a battle in the centre of London 2552 AD, her rescue by Spartans and her inspiration to become a Spartan herself.
Axis delivered fully animated CG, developing the character asset for Laurette showcasing nuanced facial animation and designed a futuristic London."

I said this when the trailer first dropped, but it’s like having a game or movie set in the 1950s and having a character have a flashback to Nazis invading New York City where they’re saved by Vietnam era soldiers.

You’ve crafted a well fleshed out universe that’s evolved over time, why not highlight that instead of ignoring it?

You cannot even link a specific source. I have stated I have searched for it and did not find it across the platform. The recent Canon Fodder states nothing about a year or place if that’s what you are referring too. So again, please link me the article if it exists since I am beginning to believe it doesn’t like I originally thought. I am just trying to confirm things and you are making this way too complicated and drama filled.

> > From our official description:
> > *Commander Agryna knows firsthand the difference a Spartan can make—a difference never more important than now. Humanity’s forces are scattered. Desperate resistance efforts have continued to fall short on multiple fronts, from Cortana’s relentless martial law to the expanding power and ambition of Atriox and the Banished. But there is hope: a new generation of Spartans, training in secret to become unstoppable. In this cinematic introduction to Season 1 of Halo Infinite Multiplayer, get a glimpse into the Academy Commander’s own heroic journey and what it truly means to be a Spartan.*Now, plenty of folks have obviously been curious about some of the finer details shown in that cinematic, which offers a glimpse into not only Laurette Agryna’s own past experiences, but also acts as a thematic anthem for your own Spartan journey. For now, the focus should be on the fun of speculation and the thrill of unraveling the story as it continues to unfold further into the future. I can assure you there will be plenty to discuss along the way!"

Where is your source? I literally see no source. My game is to get the source that has not been provided. You have a link…that leads to a random guy’s profile, but no source.
