Something Halo 5 was almost universally praised for was the REQ variant weapons, in which weapon functions were greatly and creatively altered to almost being entirely different weapons. I believe 343i confirmed we would see some form of that back in Infinite, but I wondered how? Without the REQ system? Loot Caves seem to be “The Answer”
They’ve said as the match progresses bigger vehicles and more powerful weapons appear on the field, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Loot Caves also adapt to the late match. It would be a great way to keep these guns, without P2W features and them being spammed too much. What do y’all think?
I couldn’t even finish the first sentence before being reduced to laughing at my screen for half a minute.

I don’t want to put words in your brain, but assuming you stopped reading at REQ, I think you misunderstood.
He didn’t mean the req system was universally praised, but the req weapons. No one liked the rng loot cards, but I ain’t ever heard anyone complain about how awesome the weapon variants are.
EDIT: I stand corrected by the guy below me. Carry on.
To OPs point: Yeah. That’d be cool to get one of them op spnkrs, or hammers, or the Answer. Or if the pelican dropped off ONI or Hannibal variant tanks. Would be a badass way to make BTB more than just 12v12 arena.

I’m sorry, what? Half the REQ weapons are literally just the base weapon but stronger. There’s rarely anything interesting about them, and to claim that they radically change the function of the base weapon is laughable. REQ weapons were solely implemented as an incentive to purchase microtransactions, not because they complimented Halo’s arena shooter philosophy

Your profile shows zero play time in Halo 5. And your comment reflects the same.
The REQ variants did all sorts of awesome and crazy -Yoink-. Shockwaving hammers, 4-round spankers, beam rifles and plasma pistols with black holes, needlers with anti-vehicle properties, a warthog with a needler turret, a suppressor that super-combined, the CE magnum, H2 BR and Beam Rifle, the -Yoink- AA Wraith.
I gotta stop I’m getting sweaty.

4 round SPNKR, shockwave hammer, needlers with anti vehicle properties
Idk man I’ve gotta say that does kind of sound like the same weapons but stronger in a sense
That’s a very cool insight OP and I would really see this work. It gives the upgraded weapons a place in the sandbox without upsetting it and gives more incentive to check them out. Defending a cave for 30 sec for a hammer and OS in a BTB map doesn’t seem very attractive.
Concerning all the comments about REQs being nothing but stronger versions of the same weapon/vehicle;
yeah of course because the base principle is that it’s an upgraded version. However please don’t nullify it to more of the same because many variants brought either more utility or additional properties. I myself loved the ONI/Hannibal/Sangheli variants of vehicles for example and the introduction of weapons from previous games (like the 0.6 TTK CE Magnum as a power weapon). Some of REQ variants even inspired new weapons in the sandbox.
I’m really hoping weapon/vehicle variants will make a return. Will greatly enhance customs, fiesta and new aspects like the loot cave
