Looks Like No Elites Then

From what we’ve seen of H5G, it looks like there won’t be playable Elites … at least not in the Beta (did Reach’s Beta have Elites?) …

Thoughts? Am I jumping the gun here?

I can live with it… it’s probably because they really want mm to be truly competitive again, as they are stating in the vidoc.

Reach’s beta did have Elites.

On topic: I think it’s too soon to say. It could be that there will be no Elites in the beta, but there will be in the final version. Time will tell.

Maybe they’ll be given the Reach treatment, and they’re just not done with them yet.

Its too soon to make that kind of call.

Given that the beta has been said to be representing only a small part of the game, I think you’re jumping the gun here.

please 343 no elites!! it just devalues their presence because elites are supposed to be much larger than spartan but obviously in pvp that would make them imbalanced and it would suck to have spartan vs elite playlist because it would split the community and with xbox one selling like crap so far i dont want that to happen.

spartan vs spartan only, thank you

So alienating (pun not intended) the Elite players would be a better move? Halo 4 was Spartan vs Spartan, and a considerable amount of people took issue with that. Whether it was Elite-players, machinima directors, or custom game makers, the lack of Elites was a big problem to some people. What 343 should do is try to scale the model to be Spartan sized and proportioned so the change in species is purely cosmetic. That way, Elites can be Elites and balance-zealots can stop saying Elites are unbalanced.

OT: I think it’s too early to make that claim. Hopefully, it’s not the case.

All we’ve seen was a 3 minute video on the focus of the beta.

We’ve seen less than 20 seconds of in-engine footage for crying out loud.

Well, its unanimous: I jumped the gun! (thank goodness. We need those Elites)

scaling the model is stupid, elites are supposed to be elites, big scary blue monsters. having them the same size as spartans and in multiplayer devalues them in the series, now if 343 make elites available in forge, with their full non-scaled model, so a party can create their own games fair enough but i dont want them in matchmaking.

You keep saying devalue, but what do you mean by that? They’re still cool even if you can play as them. Wouldn’t being a Spartan in multiplayer devalue Chief?

Plus, in Halo 2 we see them as more than monsters, but instead intelligent and devoted beings. Sure, Reach and 4 took their voice, but they’re still more than growling monsters.

Gameplay should come before canon. Sure, Elites are a foot taller than Spartans in-story, but why not shrink them down so people can play as them. If the game was 100% story accurate, then armor would actually change gameplay. EOD would make explosives less effective. EVA would make you more stuationally-aware while driving. So if you try to balance it, you have a bunch of Mark VI’s running around, something people wouldn’t be thrilled about.

Let’s hope it stays that way, despite some of this community’s protests. elites have been playable in three games and haven’t ever been well balanced, and people want to remove sprint(a feature that is comparatively unbalanced) after two, elites have had their chance.

I for one would much rather have a balanced game, than a “cool” one.

Scary, blue monsters? I think the community who plays as, writes fan fics for, and expands the lore upon Sangheili would heavily disagree, including myself. In fact, most sangheili players WANT them to be scaled for balancing purposes. Now is that such a bad thing?

OT: like what everyone else is saying you kinda jumped the gun, but at the same time, their intense focus on spartans so far concerns me /:

i truly believe that 343 will bring back Spartans vs Elites (not the shorties)

> i truly believe that 343 will bring back Spartans vs Elites (not the shorties)

If H2A is any indication, this may happen.

And wouldn’t it be fitting for Spartan-IV’s to be trained on how to effectively fight Sangheili?

The Elites could and should be in H5G because if they made them like they were in Halo 2 then everyone would be on an equal footing 'n still be competitive.

One word. Invasion.

Everyone seems to forget Reach. Follow its’ example. Don’t include Elites in regular matchmaking, but let them still be playable in specific modes like Halo 4’s Flood… more to the point, bring back Invasion. Maybe an SVE playlist as well. That way they can remain “unbalanced” and it wouldn’t be that big of an issue. Reach Elites are fairly bigger, faster, and (if I remember right) stronger than Spartans, yet I never remember them having any better chance of winning any specific Invasion match because of this.

Remember, this is a beta that will be released around a year before the game. Whether it will have Elites or not isn’t a good way to tell if the final game will include our favourite dinos as playable characters.

That being said, I would absolutely love for Elites to return in Halo 5, and I think that 343i knows that many fans feel the same way. We know that they’re playable in Halo 2 Anniversary, which is a good sign that shows us that they’re listening. I’m going to keep my hopes up for this one, as everything else regarding Halo 5 seems to be positive so far.
