Go figure.
Guess fixing the issues with 1-50 is just too difficult.

It’s not ideal but it would fix the problems with boosting, provided that 343 were to make sure that people knew that boosting no longer worked.
I loved the 1-50 ranking system in halo 3, oh well, I didn’t mind halo reach’s one too much…
Maybe this means we will get a better ranking system?
You never know.
It may be the best ranking system ever.
Frankie’s posts suggested they were not scrapping a ranking system, just they were not a fan of the 1-50 as it encouraged boosting, which it did.
If they improve the 1-50, I am all for that. An improved Halo 3 ranking system would be fantastic.

Pretty sure that’s what Bungie said about Arena, and look at what happened with that.

I guess the casual gamers are going to have the same issue with being spawn killed by teams that know how to set up. Not our fault we play for kills and 343i doesn’t want to fix the situation. The ranking system fixed that better in Halo 2 and Halo 3. Reach didn’t make it work at all. If Halo 4 is implementing a similar or same style ranking like Halo reach and COD, well the out come can get ugly.
Good luck on finding a good system which doesn’t promote boosting, while still being an actual ranking system. Ah well, H4 was campaign to me from the start anyway.

Exactly.
Sounds to me like they are working on a skill system thats gonna be a little more complicated in its design but still represents skill in a simple way for the player. The more complicated and intricate the system the harder it is to cheat. If they pull this off right it could redefine skill based ranking systems forever. Instead of mourning the loss of the old 1-50 why not speculate on a system that’s near fool proof and could possibly represent ones skill in a more interesting way?
Edit: no -Yoink!- but I could marry Frankie for that second link
Boosting occurs when there is any type of ranking system. I don’t know what they’re smoking, but it felt that Halo: Reach boosting was far worse than Halo 3. It was so simple since literally every playlist in the game was social and boosting was used to get to the highest rank.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a brand new ranking system that is better than Arena or 1-50. Frankie hasn’t said NO to ranking, he has just said NO to 1-50(I think). So there is still hope for a ranking system in Halo 4.
As long as Reach’s Arena rankings don’t return, I don’t care much. Getting an Onyx rating was ridiculously easy and people really don’t pay much attention to it at all. The entire competitive community was shot down in Reach, leaving only 1,000 players actively playing arena at one time. I just hope 343 realizes that 1-50 was way more appealing than Arena and they model whichever new ranking system they have off of that.
“…we are thinking…” That would imply that such a system isn’t already in place. Hasn’t this game been in development for years? This should have really been figured out already, not left to last minute, I mean yeah, there is quite a few months until release, but I still feel this is something that should have been figured out earlier.
If you look at the Arena released with Reach for example, it got tweaked pretty quickly and didn’t even include objective game types on launch, and now it’s limited to a single, small play list. Does 343i not realize that this is actually important for the game’s longevity? Some people will indeed be content with just buying perks and armour for the length of the game’s life, however Halo has always had a competitive community, and if it ends up that it has some botched ranking system like Reach which is hardly used, it’s not going to reflect back well on the game’s life, the future game’s sales, DLC sales as well as 343i’s reputation.

And it was an amazing ranking system, just how it was implemented made it a downfall.

Arena only fully works with a substantial population. Some of the design and gametype settings drove people away.
Amen for no boosters at least

Halo needs to be competitive again.
Agreed, I believe MLG should work with 343 to create a good ranking system and possibly something like the 1-50 system they had in halo 2 because it keeps a good balance between casual and competitive gamers and you have more options to play different types of games within ranked, and social matchmaking.
Frankie, if you read this comment please, please listen. I know 1-50 had it’s problems (boosting being one of them) but it was such a satisfying and motivating system which kept many players playing again and again. Reach’s system just doesn’t cut it and BPR and other individual based system create selfish and non-objective based gameplay which ruins the fun for players such as myself who want to play the game working together as a team instead of competing with your team for kills.
For the few negatives of 1-50 there was many, many stronger positives. I know you’ve got your plans but regardless of how good your game is I really don’t think I can be satisfied without a team and skill based ranking system and I know many other players share my view.
I’m not a game developer or a business man in any respects but I know why a lot of people left Halo at Halo: Reach and that was because of the ranking system. I’m sorry if you can’t see how beneficial to the game the 1-50 ranking system was but I’m telling you it was very lovely and I think I fell in literal love with it.
I’ve got a feeling this might be the last Halo I buy. Prove me wrong.
Frankie, do us all a favour. Give us what we really want man. Thx xoxoxox
No visible 1-50.
Praise jeebus.
