Looks great, really could do with porting

343i recently showed off a Halo game that looked visually faithful the iconic look, it’s Arcade only:

So got me wondering how great it would be great if they ported this to X1, they could release a Light Gun for the X1.
The thing is with arcade games is there never any guarantee that these type of games will ever release close so a console port would be nice.

Why would you even want a port of this? It’s an on rails shooter. They’d have a tough time reworking this into a legitimate game. Not to mention blowing it up for a 4K screen will just make the worst parts of the arcade cabinet graphics stand out. I noticed a few rough edges while watching the trailer.

Because it actually looks fun. With H5 being bad…this arcade game looked quite refreshing to see. I don’t even need 4k so I wouldn’t be worried about that, also promotions tends to be work in progress so I’m sure the final game will be sorted plus the whole light gun genre kind of died out over the years, I can’t even remember the last time I saw a House of the Dead for home consoles.

To each their own I suppose. I personally think they wasted a great story idea on an arcade cabinet. They could have made an FPS spin-off that went back to classic style gameplay and told the story of the first game from a different perspective. But they didn’t.

I suspect they might still but at least it’s not a VR game. Anyway suspect we’ll get a return to the classic roots/art news with H6 at E3.

Yeah I’m with you on this. Would have been cool to have a second ODST-type game and the story snippets the trailer showed would have been perfect for just that. Wasted opportunity in my mind. I’m skeptical as hell of the arcade cabinet idea, but it’s only fair to give them a chance to have a say with the release.

Sure a 2nd Odst game would be nice but I just wish 343i didn’t turn Buck into a Spartan since preferred him as an Odst. Love the trailer, like how they made the scarab useful again.

Bored, I pass

Just FYI, the arcade version will be in 4k on 4k monitors, so that wouldn’t be an issue.

Realistically they could actually port this to Xbox One, Microsoft Devices and Xbox 360.

The core gameplay would need extending from “DOOM” walking the field to player controlled movement and returning the shooting to the FPS style we have grown to love.

From a business standpoint seems awfully pointless to waste that much manpower and create this without a port or VR intentions for additional revenue. Arcade systems are very limiting to location, cost effectiveness and is a “dying” retro genre.

I will. 100% play this if it’s ported. I need more halo in this drought.

I feel like it’d be a waste if it wasn’t ported, hell you could sell it for 10 bucks and I’d shell out for it as fast as thanos snaps his fingers.

There are plenty of rail shooters on console. It could easily work as a budget title.

I really liked the look of the trailer, and would love to see this on Xbox. The platform needs more exclusives, so hopefully its arcade-only status will be limited. There are no arcades anywhere here, so the only way I’ll ever get to play it is if they port it. It seems like such a waste to limit its availability to much. They never ported Spartan Strike though so I wont hold my breath (though maybe they could bundle both of these with Spartan Assault for a physical release).

I’m totally for a port but isn’t there issues with light guns and HD TV’s? I remember hearing the reason we stopped getting light gun games on consoles was because the light gun can’t register on HD TV’s. Now granted you can still use a controller instead but a light gun would be so much more immersive. Seeing HOTD being brought up wants to me bring up the Sega Saturn and HOTD on the CRT tube tv in the closet.

Lightguns only work with CRT TV’s. The only feasible way to port this would be to utilize Kinect, which Microsoft has already killed and wants you to forget about.

Standard controller support could be done quite easily (it already exists in many rail shooters). That and a Kinect option should be enough. There was also at least one third-party lightgun made specifically for HDTVs that worked with PC, PS2 and original Xbox, so a similar controller isn’t impossible, though I doubt it would be made/released by MS themselves.

I would definitely want to play it more than Spartan Assault. Not saying either is bad, I would just want to play CE again with a different perspective.

I’m kind of mad at Microsoft and 343 for wasting this idea on an arcade cabinet. I mean most people don’t play arcades anymore…except maybe in Japan. I hope Microsoft and 343 decide to convert it into a traditional FPS Halo game and port it to the Xbox One eventually. But something tells me that will probably never happen. This feels like the closest we will ever get to a remake of Combat Evolved just not through the eyes of Master Chief. If light guns worked on modern TVs it would be nice to play a Halo light gun game on the Xbox One. Either way the game does look cool and I love the traditional art style I just wish it wasn’t an arcade game. Maybe Halo 6 will look similar to this.

Who knows: maybe a second ODST-type game that follows this storyline is still in the cards?

Call it “Halo: ODST” and release it as DLC for the MCC please!

I doubt Halo 6 will look similar to this.
I feel like mainline Halo games have always tried to push ahead graphically and visually. Not necessarily go for a certain ‘style’.
I’m happy to see visuals like what we’ve seen today in a new Halo game, I just don’t think it will ever be the style of the ‘next installment.’

You’d be surprised a lot of Beercades are taking off here at least in Chicago. There’s one called Headquarters that is slammed on the weekends.
