Looking to read all Halo books chronologically

I bought Fall of Reach to read and I want to know which ones should I get next up until the last book it came out.

Fall of Reach is not the first in terms of Lore. But you did start with a very good book. It is always the best book to start on. It released in 2001 roughly two weeks before Halo: Combat Evolved. So, you chose well.

As to what to read next, definitely have to read Halo: The Flood next.

Here is a link to help you choose what you should read next. It has been updated to include the latest book, Halo: Shadows of Reach. I have read nearly all of them and hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Happy reading!

Thank you so much! I did in fact order The Flood to go along with The Fall of Reach. Excited to read them!

Which book was your favorite?

~EDIT: I want to read all Master Chief books first. Is it fine if I read any MC book after The Flood?

Halo: First Strike takes place immediately after Halo: The Flood (aka Halo: Combat Evolved) and bridges the gap between it and Halo 2. I would recommend reading that next.

I’ve given this advice before to others who have asked a similar question. Read through the books in order of release date. Many books that take place chronologically at disparate times in the Halo universe draw upon themes and tones that come from books that were written later, but take place at earlier dates in the timeline. If you were to read in chronological order, you’d be reading the Forerunner Trilogy first, which would just be utterly confusing. Many important themes would go over your head. And some books skip around a bit, chronologically speaking. Broken Circle is technically two stories that cover events that occurred several centuries apart, for example.

An alternative way to read the vast library of Halo books would be to pick up a copy of Halo Mythos, pick a part of the universe you find interesting, and read the relevant lore surrounding it. Then continue on to the next part of the Halo universe you find interesting and read that.

You can read in any order you would like. However, Happy Place8166 above this post had a fantastic insight I did not account for. Best to use their advice.

My favorite book is probably Halo: Renegades. It takes place after Halo 4 and during Halo 5 but before Cortana’s takeover. I won’t spoil anything. But one thing I was shocked to read was a certain character was alive long thought dead by a vast majority of people that refuse to read the books and only played the games. Not only alive, but helping the main characters out in ways previously thought laughable by this character.

Have fun reading!
