Looking to improve my game....

I have a .4 K/D and it is making my time online miserable…

I was thinking of recording some of my games and putting them up to get help…

Good idea or bad?

If you are EARNEST in your desire to improve, I will help you.

Message BWO Arbiter. Please have a facebook account, as well as a NON Kinetc mic.

Sure, but be prepared for trolls…

Actually, that thread might make pretty good trollbait.

I think that depends on the kind of feedback you want. For every positive comment you’d get, there may be just as many that mean nothing to you.

It might be better to look at your own film…by yourself…first. See what kind of positions you put yourself in.

Get someone on your XBL FL who plays to look at it too. Go play customs.

I looked at film a lot in H3. Helped me understand distance, speed, accuracy for me.

But before all this — what is your sensitivity setting?

play swat, and just slow down  its a great game mode to really get yourself calm and collected about getting the kills

No worries there, I’m hardly a pro myself. My goal will be to get you to a 1.5 KD, without stat padding.

I took a lot of Staff Captains back in H3, and raised them up to Brigadiers. Not pro players by any means, but all solid players who could hold their own.

Well since i dont know how you play all i can give you is tips so here we go:

  1. increase your sensitivity…you dont have to put it high but around 4,5,or 6 is good because you get faster reaction

  2. Choose a good control scheme…i would suggest bumper jumper…but whatever you like is fine

  3. strafing…master this when using dmr or br move side to side when fighting also crouch will usually throw off there shot…Make yourself hard to shoot

  4. Surprise attack…always be the first to shoot you will have a better advantage

  5. Radar have your eyes glued to it when you move anywhere

  6. Teamwork…stay with a teammember 2 is better than 1

  7. Always throw grenade if someone is coming through a door you will weaken his shields…

  8. Always be near cover for quick escape if your in a losing fight

If you need more let me know…

If it’s not 1vs1 dont pick a fight…its really that simple. Exceptions would be if its a 2v2 or 3v3 skirmish, or if you have an escape route/cover near by

A good combo to try would be DMR/Boltshot/Promethean Vision/Shielding/Dexterity or Ammo

With Promethean Vision you can predict the enemies path and toss a grenade where you think they will be and finish them with the DMR

If in close quarters use Promethean Vision and time the Boltshot charge

Don’t camp the key is to stay moving and alert

Send me a message when you see this. Gamertag: Rizebowl

I would be willing to help you out in improving your game. Last thing I want to see is someone give up or have a bad time playing online.

Going along with all of the positive comments people have left so far, I too can offer my advice! Watching replays will help you. I know you have to do it with Starcraft 2 to get better, but it’s less required here. In Halo, you can actually recover from a mistake a lot easier than you can in Starcraft 2, so replays are a bit less effective I want to say. Either way, here are some more real life tips that can help you improve your game:

  1. Don’t play tired

I can’t play for anything when I am more than just a little tired. You ideally want to play when you are at your mental peak/plateau. Granted, this isn’t always possible, but basically don’t get into a game if you are just too tired to try or think straight.

  1. Don’t play hungry

Hunger can really mess you up. It starts to fiddle with your decision making and judgment. Trust me, I’ve made some bad calls because I didn’t have lunch or breakfast or whatever. I always have a drink of some kind with me as well. Doesn’t matter what it is (water, Dew, etc.), but it helps keep you refreshed and feeling on point.

  1. Attitude

Can’t stress this one enough. Your attitude is what will drive you to be better. Will it get you a 3.0 K/D? Probably not, but it’s going to make you better. Doesn’t matter if you aren’t that good now, or have touched a game for the first time. Keep your attitude positive! Admittedly, I rage quite more often than I should, but that’s because I’ve got patience issues =D

  1. Get comfortable

Basically what I am getting at with these tips is just to play at a better state of being. As I understand it, people (definitely me) are seldom 100% there with everything, and just do the best they can.

Some other general tips for you:

  1. Practice

Rome wasn’t built in a day and you will not be a better player in 1 match. You just gotta keep chipping away and strive to be just a little bit better each time you play.

  1. Have fun

This is a hard tip to follow, especially if you are getting the beat down every other match. I suggest playing your favorite game types or something more relaxed for a bit, like Flood. Don’t take your K/D too seriously in that playlist, as just about everybody is bound to have a lower one in that.

So there is my advice for you! Please PM me or message me on XBL if you have any questions, or want me to watch a replay of you. I can’t really lend my in-game assistance to you a whole lot, but send me a replay and I’ll watch it when I can! Happy practicing

Never get into a fair fight.

Always have the better position, the better weapon, or just plain outnumber your opponent. If you sense a fair fight approaching, then run away. Learn to retreat like a pro.

Also never run out in the open when people are shooting at you.

im not a pro but i do know a few tips, if u want message me on xbox live gt: perpetual uav

It’s all about positioning. Occupy ground according to your the strengths of your loadout and engage people from the best range for your weapon. If you get into an engagement that you’re not confident you can win, retreat around cover to regroup yourself. That is probably the most important advice I could give.

A close second would be awareness. Keep your eye on your radar because it tells you basically everything you need to know about what is happening. Always know where your team is, where your enemies are, and how you can interact with the map features around you.

At first you could try playing as more of a support role. Stick with your team and just try to help them get kills even if you are mainly getting assists. If the enemy singles you out, retreat behind cover and your team mates so that they can finish off your attackers and help prevent you from being killed. Likewise, if you see a team mate that is in trouble, move to attract the attention and fire of his attacker and hopefully finish them off. This has been one of the single most effective tactics since CE, and I call it the bait and switch. If you can find a friend to play with, try rolling around with one of you in front and the other watching the back, and when one person gets attacked just have them take a couple of shots at the enemy then switch positions with the other person.

Unless you are good, never engage superior numbers.

Honestly after that comment, there won’t be much help anyone can provide. That’s like saying, “I don’t want to be great at the guitar, but I don’t want to have to practice playing it over and over to be OKAY at it.” If you’re not going to take the time out to improve, then you won’t. Having someone send you tips and reading won’t help. You have to practice the techniques against live opponents, moving targets, etc.

My opinion accept BWO Arbiters help. When you do get some free time watch some twitch tv while the pro’s are on. Remember not to try and do everything they do. Just take some of the things that fit your gameplay and use them.

See I hate long distance and close quarters. I love medium game play. Compared to the average Halo player I’m good but considering the majority of great Halo players like to fight from the same distance, when going against these guys I die a lot because they have figured out how to play at that distance better then me. So when I watch game play of really good players I look to see what I can do from that distance that I don’t currently do. It has helped a lot even though I need a lot more work to be were I want to be.

Also find what your weakness are? Mine is slow reaction time, I have good aim not great but my reaction time is bad. So now adjust your game to compensate for that. If I’m running down a hall and see a player odds are they have already seen me and started shooting. So I duck and cover and prepare for a fight, or run away and make them fight on my terms when I’m ready for them.

I think its cool you like the game enough you want to get better instead of quit and go to some other game. When I first started Halo 2 I couldnt even get a single kill in some games. What helped me a lot was watching videos online, and now with the replay system you can really see your own mistakes watching your own replays.

My main bit of advice is dont go charging out to get kills. Use your surroundings to make the opponents miss. Dont get yourself out in open areas where you are an easy target. Think of it as if you were actually really in combat (which I have been). If it was real life would you really charge out into the open and alone with no protection trying to kill someone ?

Anticipate where people are moving. A lot of people are pretty predictable in their movements and that makes them easier to kill. Predict where people will be throw a grenade first. Travel with teamates.

Thanks for the posts!

I will take you up on that BWO…

but it wouldnt be fair to ask for help without showing you where I stand…

So I will record a couple games and put them up to see if I am a lost cause or not…

Should be later tonight (around 7 or 8) depending on the servers…

Yeah just take the last team game you played and won, as well the last one you lost, and upload them to your fileshare and I’ll check them out. Please try not to be biased with it, just the last ones are fine. Again team game not Regicide or Flood, and not customs either.

Also send me a message with your name (As it appears on Facebook) so I can get you into the group page. Any information you come across on the page should be kept to yourself, whether personal or strategical.

There is still a lot of information being added, so it isn’t organized very well at the moment, so please be patient.
