Recently bought Halo MCC for XBOX one. I used to occasionally play Halo 3 with a friend who owned it, but was never that great. I play only Halo 3 slayer, mostly because I know the maps. I am decent at map placement and strategy, but I would like to work on improving my aim. Would love to connect with other users who are about my skill rank (or mildly better), to practice in custom games. Anyone looking for the same?
I’m a casual gamer, 31 years old, and work in the IT industry, and I have a headset. Not looking to hang out with trolls!
You might try the recruitment thread as well.
I’m working on achievements…

Best way to start is to grind the Halo 3 playlist everyday until you get your 50. When you search solo, you’ll be forced to carry your teammates a little bit. Eventually you’ll partner with someone who does as good or better than you and team up to grind ranks. Eventually you’ll get recruited by other teams of 2 and teams of 3 to run against the troll teams of 4. If you do this everyday, you’ll soon form a small community of similarly skilled people trying to achieve your 50s. I’d also recommend playing custom 2v2s or just search Team Slayer to warm up.
If this seems daunting, don’t worry, follow this link to a playlist I’ve created that will teach you the basics of classic Halo games. The Halo 3 videos should be grouped together towards the bottom: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHM8ZqZvVNF2e9rWPjPIwlxGAE4gjtzgo
I really appreciate your insightful advice. Thats a comprehensive video list. I will use it. Thanks!
I’m going to be completely honest here, but you’re better off playing H2A or H4 on MCC. Halo 5 is even better optimized. Halo 3, when it was ported over for MCC, has resulted in extremely inconsistent gunplay. Tons of hit registration problems and the engine is far worse than it was on the 360 because of this. All the other games in the collection even play over Live better than it does.
I personally won’t tell you not to play it, but don’t let nostalgia of the maps +1 your perception. For absolute -Yoink- gameplay. If you wanna play H3, I’d highly suggest using the 360BC version if you must, otherwise stick with the other, more consistent games.

Thanks for your feedback. I have read numerous reports of what you are saying, so it must be true. Still, I’m regularly playing people who have no problem going +10 or higher. While hit registration problems may be a factor, the bigger problem is my lack of skill! A concern would be that it cause me to create bad habits going into the newer games. My plan was to improve on Halo 3, and then move on to a newer game.

If your aim.is to improve your game mechanics then it’d still be best to start with Halo 4. The Halo series as a whole has greatly evolved in their gameplay mechanics. The ground works have been simple and improvements vary greatly but in terms of core gameplay here’s the low-down:
H:CE - OG. Typical shooter. Walk. Jump. Shoot.
H2 - greatly Improved core of the above. P2P XBL.
H3 - Introduced Equipment. P2P XBL
H:Reach - Introduced some Hitscan weapons. Introduced Armor Abilities (Sprint is an ability) and assassinations. P2P XBL
H4 - Bullet-based weapons are all Hitscan. Armor Abilities reworked (includes Thruster pack). Sprint is universal. P2P XBL
H5 - first Halo title to run 60FPS. Armor abilities gone. Introduces Clamber, Ground Pound, Spartan Charge, and Sliding mechanics universally. Dedicated Servers XBL.
So as you can see, fundamentally Halo made a huge jump after H3. If your plan is to stay current and have fun and keep up for when Halo 6 releases, get to learning Halo 5, as a lot about it will carry over to the next iteration. Don’t try to get good at the previous ones, just play those for fun.

Not sure if you’re still keeping an eye on this thread, but I wouldn’t mind helping you improve. I used to try to help new players pretty often back in the Xbox 360 days. I usually play in the afternoon/night on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Just now seeing this! I will look you up! Thanks!
