Let’s face it, no one likes loading screens (you are welcome to disagree). But they are a part of life and you will see them in many games. Something I noticed in Halo 3 and Reach is that we spent a lot of time waiting for the game to start or the match to load. It is not the netcode, Reach’s netcode was brilliant and even with the supposed lack of players I could always find a game. It is waiting for the map to load, the Auntie Dot scree, voting etc. These seem to be necessary features, letting the game get ready.
If the game can’t help it, it is fine. Halo may not be able to have a matchmaking system that is instantaneous.
However, increase the length of at least some game types to compensate for this.
For example, if we played two rounds of Infection per match, make it 3,4,5.
This means that the play/wait ratio is higher and this benefits everyone. It will even increase the enjoyment of playing the game, since many people are inpatient.
The question is how do you increase the length of these matches without them getting dull. 10-15 minutes may not seem like it’s a long time, but sitting there in a gametype you don’t like, on a map you don’t like, getting slaughtered for 15 minutes can feel like an eternity.
The matches are the length they are so people don’t get bored and quit. It’s not 100% but making a game last 20+ minutes will only result in more quits.
We need infinite sudden death back for Objective akin to Halo 2. The games were super intense and at times, incredibly climatic.
I remember playing a round of CTF on Headlong, I was on the defending team playing with my clan back then. A guy successfully hid from us for about 10 minutes whilst simultaneously contesting for the flag. So we had to try and track this man down whilst defending the flag from the other team.
When we finally got him it sure was a satisfying feeling to see that timer finally tick down.
If you’re wondering where he was, he was hidden behind one of the walls at the top of the base, near where rockets spawn, parallel to Sword tower. The tiny ledge has been removed from the remake of Headlong for Reach.
If people were able to jump in and out of games, no time limit objective matches would be fantastic. It could go on for days, an epic battle between red and blue

LMAO I can just imagine joining a game to find your only teamate hiding in a base with a shotgun with 5 enemies outside. Only to find out he’d been sitting there, alone, for 3-4 hours.

Good times, good times.
I think that was one of the best features in Halo objective, but what the hell do I know. Obviously Bungie got it right from then on since they had to remove Objective from H3 and it has an abysmal population in Reach.
I personally don’t like this idea. The main reasons have been said above, I mean 10-12min of playing a map you don’t like, or getting destroyed, having a bad team, etc. is terrible any more and nobody would ever finish a match.
A longer version of Invasion would be nice. Keep one version as it is, but make the other longer and more time consuming with more players. Like comparing Team Slayer to BTB
5-10 minute (average) games are what Halo has been before Reach and what it should be. If anything, Halo needs to get faster from Reach because Reach is far too slow what with AA’s allowing easy escape.
I’d only consider Invasion or BTB to have a time extension.
