Long time Halo pro Ghandi's outlook on H4

http://www.halocouncil.com/news/what-happened-by-gandhi

this is what 343 needs to read, this is what this game needs. If CSR(competitive skill rank) is not visible in game this is the end of another halo era, just like reach this game will waste away. Make CSR just like halo 2, and you’ll have a halo 4 lifespan of years compared to reach’s months.

Wow, 343i are going to go back on everything because some nostalgic pro doesn’t like their game. It’s not going to happen.
Yes halo 4 has many flaws but out of all of them the ones he brings up affect the smallest amount of the community. (Most people don’t give about ranks, hence lack of them in most modern shooters). Bigger things are needed. If the TU fixes them it will be the best halo yet IMO.

EDIT: Also using a famous peace preacher as his name to kill people on a video game is quite ironic.

There are bigger issue’s other than visible rank at the moment. 343 should worry about making the game playable and complete before worrying about a number.

That was a good read, and towards the end I did not expect to see what he typed.

Repost. There is already a thread about this.

Wasn’t he a forum ninja on Bungie.net?

Anyway, I’ll admit he made some good points. Though i wish he went into depth on Reach’s failings.

You know what, I respect Ghandi’s opinion (about competitive gaming). I really do. There’s no doubt that he know what he likes.

But when a guy like me comes on here and expresses an opinion about competitive gameplay, you know what happens? A quick perusal of my stats quickly reveals that I have little or no experience with high-level competitive gaming and, therefore, should have no opinion.

I would point out that these arguments regarding the way 343i has developed their game fall in this same “you’re outside your league” category. Your arguments regarding how 343i should make their game should be treated just like my arguments concerning how competitive gaming should be done.

Or, to put it another way, if Ghandi and 343i went 1v1 developing a video game, who would win? If your answer is Ghandi, then I guess he should just stop talking and start writing.

I just believe it is awful pretentious to say that because I am good at the game you made that I have all the answers concerning how you should make your game. I mean, where the hell were you when I made the game that you got good at?

A skill rank makes players want to play, get better and creates interest about the game.

Halo: Reach has sold 9.26 million copies globally according to VGchartz.

Halo Reach is still #15 on the top 20 games played on live this month. Not bad for a game that came out more than 2 years ago.

How did Reach waste away?

“Halo 3 had the largest on-line viewership of any other Halo Titles. Tsquared got on the Dr. Pepper bottle, Instinct got sponsored by Old Spice, Hot Pockets sponsored Triggers Down, and Stride Gum sponsored Carbon (but would move to sponsoring individual players). After reading that sentence there is no arguing that HALO was at it’s peak in terms of sponsors and exposure.”

Reach had no exposure after launch, Halo 2 had tournaments broadcast on TV, the USA network BROADCASTED HALO 2 on TV. Are you kidding me? Reach didn’t draw more players in after launch. Bungie probably sends a check every month to Major League Gaming for what they did for Halo 2.

No, this is a MLG Former Pro Player named Gandhi** (His gamertag is Gandhi not Ghandi) who posted this.

the best argument I could possibily give you would be call of duty, if the most casual friendly game on the market has a ranking system then why on earth would a game that was made around competitive play not?

call of duty by no means needs a ranking system to succeed, nor does the game benefit all that much from its presence, and yet they still added it.

whether you want to admit it or not ranks ARE important for a lot of the community.

a (visible) ranking system is by no means a make or break for a game, however the idea that its pretty much meaningless needs to stop.

It’s simple logica folks. MLG is what made Halo 2 and Halo 3. Those games were competitive, and I would watch so many matches and VODs learning new strats, while getting better myself. Games are made easy for newer players now. New players arent developing skill when the game is dumbed down. Competitive games will increase the longevity, and more people will plays. It’s been proved in H2 and H3. Who does not want to play and get better??? If your stuck at level 30, youll practice and practice to hit level 35. Your skill improves, and you become happier. It’s not like that at all anymore

> A skill rank makes players want to play, get better and creates interest about the game.

A visible number or symbol should not be the driving force for a player to get better, it is an absolutely poor reason. A player should get better because they WANT to get better.

In competitive games a number means everything, its bragging right. K/D does not mean anything when a ranked 1-50 system is on the line.

bring social and ranked playlists back. It’ll make the casual pansies happy, plus people like me who want to grind for that glorious level 50.

Really? why do I see 80 threads on,“I’m stuck at level 70 OMG i gunna quit if i cant level up!”

Once you reach SR130 why are you going to still play this game? Cause you want to get better? Or that you want to see that you are getting better by having a skill based ranking system?

> Really? why do I see 80 threads on,“I’m stuck at level 70 OMG i gunna quit if i cant level up!”

Because people are stupid?

In all seriousness alot of those are really because of this Specialization issue, personally I think they should have all been unlocked by default to avoid this kind of situation but whatever, what’s done is done.

I’d still be playing because I enjoy it. In all of the Halo games the “number” has made very little difference to me overall. I can see my performance perfectly fine with post game carnage reports and the service record.

I also don’t think 130 will be the final overall max, I get the feeling future DLCs or patches will up it. I mean why 130? Why such an odd number?

343 People should read the link by the original poster.

The link gives the facts… Halo 2 and 3 were by far better.
Halo 2 glitches were fun as hell too lol.
Hell, when Halo 3 came out I was mad over no more super bounces… Lol.
