locust yay or nay?

Ok…ever since halo wars this covenant vehicle fascinated me. The fact it was not in halo 4 was a minor letdown even tho the mantis was awesome…what do you guys think…yay or nay?

I don’t mind the Locust being in future Halos.

Whoppps it was supposed to say “not” in halo 4…

I must admit, I thought you were talking about this when I read the title.

I wouldn’t mind. The more the merrier, especially where Covenant are concerned.

I would also like Locus to return.

It would be cool to have a new vehicle to combat, though they would have to be there for a reason.
They are usually used as building killers, or anti-fortification if you will. Meaning it’s unlikely that they would be used as an anti infantry unit. If there were buildings to be destroyed then an appearance, for me, would be acceptable. Though perhaps their full functions were not seen in Halo wars and there are different variants for different situations.

The covenant having something closer to an MBT than a mobile artillery would be great.

Well the problem is the locust doesn’t fit that role the scarab does. As someone above stated they were building killers and, while I have zero doubt in my mind that laser would also ruin any human’s day, they were insanely fragile once they lost their shield which isn’t too terribly tough to begin with. I want to say it took 2-3 tank shells from Halo wars to take out a locust and a couple squads of Marines firing rockets was enough to inflict severe damage.

They were building killers, yes. But I would still love to see every vehicle in Halo Wars make an appearance in a first person view.

I would not mind if a “Locust V2” replaced the wraith as the main armored unit of Covie enemies.

I get that people like the classics but I would like to see the Covenant evolve a little bit more. At least making the Remnant a little more distinct from the OG Covenant.

Oh good, I thought this was going to be a misguided thread about putting Locust from Gears of War in Halo.

I honestly thought you were talking about Locus from RvB

Isn’t that about the same level of punishment, if not more, than the scorpion can take in multiplayer?

I also wouldn’t put too much weight in its RTS stats. They’re weighed for RTS balance, not realism.

I think they’d still fill more of a “direct assault” vehicle more than the wraith does, which often feels like the covenant is using them improperly. I don’t want a “purple scorpion” but a vehicle that feels like it should be with the forces in the front.

I’m pretty sure in the game description it is described as having powerful shields but weak armor. I think it’d be cool to see in a main entry. It’d be similar to a Mantis in that it is a shielded vehicle, but 343 could also include the overdrive to increase the beam power while sapping shields for that extra risk vs reward.

The locusts tho were also used as anti vehicles…uh…vehicles. I would love to see this scarab’s smaller cousin in a scene similar to the one in which the chief is defending the infinity MAC cannon in halo 4…it would fit rather well. In MP as well perhaps. But definitely in the campaign.

I’m not familiar with Wars, but this looks pretty neat. I’m all for more vehicle combat in Halo, assuming the potency, durability, and teamwork components are handled properly (i.e. not quite like it was in Halo 4).

I’d love to be able to drive one. It’s sad that Halo has never taken advantage of commandeering Scarabs or Scarab-like vehicles.

For those unfamiliar with it

This is the locust

This would be a fun and interesting vehicle in BTB. Strong shields and weak armor would probably be for the best like it was in HW.

Since it is anti-building in HW it should probably be anti-vehicle in H5. Which would leave it up to your teammates to protect you from infantry.

LOCUS RULES!!!

Halo Wars vehicles belong in Halo Wars. Not fps games that only have 16ish players. The Locust was for a game where large vehicles actually fit into the games. That wouldn’t fit into a FPS game at all unless there were at least 32+ people playing in one game and vehicles were readily available for people. Otherwise, once a team lost all it’s vehicles, there would be no way to come back as infantry units.

Honestly, the majority of ideas I see here on Halo Waypoint are just ridiculous. People don’t put thought into anything and they just spit it out because it sounds cool. That’s how you end up with terrible games like Reach and Halo 4. It was just a mass of everyones ideas that would be “cool” to put in Halo. Halo was fine as it was and didn’t need sprint or AAs. People loved Halo back with it was just Halo 1 and they should have kept it very similar to that formula, but they have completely changed it into something else and it’s become an abomination that only casual people can tolerate to play for more than an hour. I wish people would think about the things they say before hand.

If Halo is indeed going back to where it was before Reach came out with AAs and POs, then the Mantis wouldn’t even be a viable vehicle to keep into the game because it is very OP. The only reason it was balanced in H4 was because people did have POs and they were able to spawn with PPs and Stickies. Even with that, it would still be difficult to take down unless your sniper wasted some shots to get the shields down before a Splaser hit it for the kill.

So no Locust. It just doesn’t make sense in a FPS unless its a “Battlefield” sized battle with more than 8 people on a team. It would have to be 16v16 or more.
