After playing many a round of HW2 I have come across many great players. Many players have utilized the games tactics and learned the best ways to hold a position in the one map that is played on blitz. There are more ways than one to hold it and it can be quite the challenge at times to throw an enemy player off. With that said there are those who see a way to turn the tide by utilizing only one unit; or rather not turn the tide but use only that one unit throughout the match. It makes for unpleasant game play when a single unit is constantly cycled through and you’re constantly seeking ways to get around it only by the time you have something to possibly fend it off they have fifteen of the same unit and the game has reached to 165 and you’re still sitting at 0 or maybe 15. The unit I speak of are locusts. I have come across quite a few individuals that only use that one unit. They may change something up but they will cycle to get a Locust and a Bloodfuel Locust. It doesn’t make the game anymore fun by constantly laying down locust after locust and you’re doing everything you can as UNSC to fend them off, but UNSC units don’t have a unit that can really take out those units effectively. to stop a Locust that costs 40 and it’s Stronger unit is 60 energy and a warthog cost 60. Sure you can use a cyclops but by the time you set one down, they already have three Locusts and you have to be in close proximity to do any damage. By the time you have enough to fight back the game is over and they have Locusts across the board.
This form of gameplay is bound to happen, and I understand that. However this is the beta and I believe it should be fixed in some fashion to where you cannot just keep pumping out the same units because you can cycle through your deck… that or raise the amount of energy it costs to cycle. There is so much that can be done and needs to be done and this is one of them.
I had an issue earlier where the locusts sit between B and C on the hill and there is nothing you can do to overpower them. Also why dont stealth units unstealth when attacking? Any why cant you attack them when stealthed? Seems ridiculous.

I know that but it’s still ridiculous. No other good RTS I have played has this. Granted they have stealth and detection but you can still use a force attack function to attack stealth units should you be able to find them. Also units always unstealthed when attacking.
While I agree the locust seems a bit over powered for the price with all due respect this post sounds more like butt hurt then addressing a real concern. I say this as there is no mention of the artillery spam on the ridge by point B. No mention of the of how over powered the vulture can be. No concern that a scorpion tank can kill 2 or 3 locusts before it falls or how a single blast unit can take out 6+ locusts in less then a second. Sorry man but just because you don’t like a tactic doesn’t make it less valid. Learn to adapt or in this case raise your skill level.

If they unstealthed when attacking they would always be unstealthed since you cant force units to not attack.

Totally doesn’t look like you’re one of those Locus spammers friend.
You must the same kind of guy that said home base farming in Warzone was acceptable?

Alright so you’re okay that a Locust (worth 40 Energy) and a Bloodfuel Locust (worth 60 Energy) is worth cycling through and putting an unlimited amount on the field where they also have a continuous fire rate that has the rage of artillery fire is okay. Sure a single blast can take out six but how much energy cost is it to use one before you’re about to lose and find a way to get in range to be able to use it. You can be butt hurt about the Artillery on the ridge but that is just the tactics of the map itself. A vulture can be very powerful, this is true, but you cannot continuously cycle and drop them in as they cost 140 energy to put into the battlefield. Substantially more than a single Locust, which can also attack air units. The other fact that a scorpion can take out multiple Locusts is true, however you still have to get in range of which the Locust is already firing at you. Oh and did I mention that you spend 110 Energy into a Scorpion where you just put in 40 on one Locust and 60 on your Bloodfuel Locust on my one tank. I guarantee you’re going to win and by the time the battle is done you can spawn in more Locusts. This is not a tactic but abuse into a cycling system that was meant to help if you had too many high energy units in hand and not used to continuously use a unit. So LordRamno, “you can just float and sputter” because you believe that cycling for a unit is a tactic and nothing more.
My ideas for a fix is either nerf the locust or increase the cycle energy each time you cycle through cards at a maximum to (30). Such as it costs 5 the first time and steadily increases by 5 till you reach 30 energy, this way it is more set on tacts than just a cycle to your favorite unit.
I would prefer to see what the actual stats of the various units are before coming to any conclusion. The Locust is a strong card and seems to offer more value then the Wraith, but I don’t find it OVER powered. Just a bit too strong for its value. Some tweaking would be in order I think, but more testing would be required.

> Seriously the Locust has way too much range. it’s a sniper unit but it’s not fragile, like a Sniper unit. It’s crazy.
Either they nerf the effective range or make it so it does seriously reduced damage to non-buildings. It’s a building killer. Make that’s it’s primary purpose. Instead, people camp the ridge between B and C and throw artillery and Locus there. The Locus make it so that any suicide units or blast units sent are seen in range long before they can attack, taken out by artillery, and Atriox’s Bulwark means that Scarabs, Glassing Beam or even Eradication are mostly useless

Give a try Lure Lion, in a match use both locusts in a match. Cycle through your deck until you find a locust and again for blood locust. put them on the field and cycle again. This is what I have seen and tested myself. I have won every match with this cycle system. I also used the Shipmasters cloaking ability field to cloak my locusts as well to keep them battling longer. It’s an “official tactic” that so many have come to utilize. Makes the game so much less fun and it sucks. It’s not even a challenge it’s just one sided. Again, do it and find out.
Note: I wouldn’t have tested it out if LordRomano didn’t call me butt hurt about the “locust cycle tactic”. It is not a tactic it’s just a get win quick gameplay and I don’t stand for that. Takes the fun away entirely. So I played 2 games in duel, 4 games in standard, and 8 games in brawl. I ended up with most kills, fewer units used, even fewer destroyed, as well as fewest energy used. After all locusts are units that cost 40 and 60 to launch.
The best solution to this problem had already been said. If the cost to cycle increased with each use this strategy wouldn’t exist.
It’s not that locust are overpowered as part of an army, it’s that they’re too strong when it’s all you use. By increasing the cost of cycling each time you cycle removes this strategy while maintaining the tactic of cycling away useless cards when you don’t need them.
The problem is the cheap cycling. Without fixing cycling, the best strategy will be to build the best unit.
Cycling can be abused with any unit. I’ve had games where one team mate just cycles til they get a scarab and win with back to back scarabs.

Lmao. You won’t stand for it. Hahaha!!! And who the F are you to be so important? God I hope I get to play against you so I can just spam locusts and listen to you cry about it. Dude you are running a fit of ego mania that even Trump would have a hard time duplicating. Roflmao. You won’t stand for it. That’s beautiful. It really is a treat to listen to millenials whine. Great entertainment.
Note: just out of pure morbid curiosity what are you gonna do if they don’t change anything on the locust? Not standing for it and all. And if you just say not play it I’m gonna be really disappointed.
I can see why they want no fog of war for Blitz, but they could keep that and still just prevent units from firing without true vision of an enemy the same way you can’t drop units without it. It should be like Starcraft 2 siege tanks where players use air units and such to grant them visibility for full range outside of a full fight, have to put some actual attention into it.
I do think this is a strategy that is better in a beta than it will end up being in the full game though, people are already figuring out several ways to stop it with various leader powers, blast units, combinations and such. Granted those might be countered back a bit too if people learn to spread better and put in a guard unit.
And cloak is fine. Again in Starcraft there is no force fire and there are units with perma invisibility… you just have to be prepared to detect. Having two detect cards in my deck has been plenty in the beta, and it’s not like the stealth units in the game are going to be wiping out your whole army it’s just to steal some energy or contest a point vs an unprepared opponent. I think cloak and blast (suicide grunts weren’t comparable in HW1) are good additions that force some diversity and micro.
