Locke's team is (CINC)ONI's new 'Black Team'?

Apologies if this theory has been brought up but here it goes…

As some of you know, the entire Black Team was killed off when facing the Didact in some of the later comic book series. This had bothered people since it did happen rather suddenly and that it was done on a medium (comics) that many wouldn’t have noticed if they didn’t dive into the comics. Bottom line… people felt justice was dealt with poorly when dealing with the background and now death of Black Team. I felt more or less the same as others on this matter.

Then, I started to dig into more of who Black Team was. This is an interested tidbit I read and focus on the bolded portion of this paragraph…

“Fireteam Spartan: Black,[1] often referred to as Team Black or Black Team,[2] was an unconventional warfare unit of four SPARTAN-II supersoldiers who reported directly to the Office of Naval Intelligence, unlike their Naval Special Weapons comrades.”

This starts to make sense of why Black Team was killed and why it was done in the lesser known world of its Halo comics.

As we know Locke appears to have a deep tie into ONI and now we see, in the latest poster, a team of four that he appears to be leading. I can imagine that 343 wanted to bring Master Chief with his Blue Team front and center with it’s videogames. With Locke becoming a very pivotal character of his own, 343 probably wanted to give him a team of his own too.

If hardcore fans weren’t now wondering where Black Team is and their role, they would be if they saw a newly formed ONI specific Spartan Team. The death of Black Team in the comic series was quiet. It gives 343 a chance to fill in any gaps in the story if anyone was to wonder why Lockes team is being called Team Black if there already is a Team Black out there… well there isn’t now and we know that because they’re all dead.

With the Black Team of old passing away, it opens the door to a newer set of ONI chosen Spartans to lead the newer Black team… and that team is exactly who you see in 343s new Chief and Locke poster.

Locke and his team are Black Team

Note:
They could be the new ‘Black Team’ but could also still go by another name

Seems racist.

wow you racist POS.

if that’s the reason why team black got killed off I’d rather have no reason then… lockes team isn’t even black

Once you go…

No need for that joke

Anyways i gotta agree here. If Black teams death was just to create room, them just let it be a normal KIA situation then.

Seems reasonable, yet ridiculous at the same time. I’ll bite.

Oh… and also…

I still believe Locke is a 1.1 (1.1s are the name given to the children of those who were a part of the original Orion project… sometime called the Spartan I program)

These kids were born with some enhanced but also defected parts because of the parents they came from were augmented in some various ways but of course much more minor augmentations than the Spartan IIs.

In order for the proper survival and health of these 1.1s, they had to augment these babies/children. This gave these children enhanced qualities in comparison to traditional regular kids.

Sooo who a part of the original Orion Project could Locke be a son to? Well non other than our Sargent Johnson. Who by the way claimed he was always good with the ladies.

It’s been rumored that Johnson had a romantic relations with a woman… who … worked for ONI.

This then also explains why Johnsons son, Locke, would be involved with ONI… because of his moms career within ONI. Johnson may have never knew he even had a kid since he was always far away involved in battle or a conflict of some kind. Locke on only having his mom, who worked for ONI, to take care of him, would have probably had closer ties to anything ONI as a result of that.

With Locke entering the Spartan IV program, his already enhanced 1.1 body was probably even further enhanced with the Spartan program augmentations.

Not only is Chief finding more about who he is on his own journey in Halo 5, so is Locke on finding out who he truly is and where he came from.

I’m not being racist…

Hope you others aren’t being serious when saying that.

There actually is a ‘Black Team’ in Halo

Apologies to the select few that simply don’t get it

> 2533274820441404;4:

Just because Lockes team isn’t all black doesn’t mean they can’t be called ‘Black Team’

Blue team isn’t all blue
Red team wasn’t all red
Green team wasn’t all green (hmmm actually they may have)

Even though the original black team did wear black armor… whether it’s Blue, Red, Black, or Green Team… it’s just more of a name than an actual color indication.

Technically; Spartan Black is the praetorian guard of CINCONI, the true “human” leaders of the UNSC and ONI. They have no superior beyond them when the circumstances are exercised.

… If this gets me time with Black Box in-game, I’m down with it. Make Black Box, Locke’s AI companion, the Chief has none for nearly if not all of the game…

Because I would have a blast hearing that particular AI manipulate Locke to ONI’s views while also encouraging oodles amounts of carnage and chaos.
BB loves his job and I love to hear him love his job (And I don’t believe he is just one…)

what a twist

Interesting… thanks for the added information and response

The interesting thing about Black Box is…

“Due to his programming being based off the brain of Dr. Alban, Black-Box has intense antipathy and disgust for Catherine Halsey.”

So that alone would be very intriguing if he was Lockes AI. He’d have no problem convincing Locke that Halsey is bad and must be stopped. With Chief possibly trying to find Halsey and also factoring that Chief values Halsey could be another reason for Black Box to also convince/help Locke to stop both of them.

One catch is that Black Box is not particularly as fond of humans or interactions with them as other AI are… not that he isn’t completely… just not as much as an AI like Cortana. This may be tough to see Black Box team with Locke but being that they both are with ONI and Black Box’s disgust for Halsey… maybe they could team up.

I think that’d be a lot of fun and make for some very fascinating story development. Especially to hear Black Box since he “… has been described as deeply narcissistic, and has been noted to speak in a supercilious manner. He has also been noted as having a sarcastic sense of humor.”

Would love to see Black Box and nice theory about Locke and co.

I doubt they will be called Black Team. The “simple color - team” designation was reserved for Spartan-IIs: Red Team, Blue Team, Green Team, etc. Spartan-IVs are always dubbed Fireteam Majestic, Crimson, Castle, Wolf etc. And remember the Spartan-IIIs were Team Katana, Team Saber, and so on. They’ve never crossed up the unique naming and types of Spartans before and I don’t know why they’d start now.

Now granted Locke’s team is ONI, not Spartan, but it would still be confusing and just unnecessary.

I also agree with others that having a black guy lead black team raises some eyebrows even though it shouldn’t matter. Especially because Tanaka and/or Romeo may be part of the squad as well.

If anything, I think team names at least for the Spartan-IV’s are randomized or chosen by ONI, Commander Palmer or the current head of the Spartan Program.

halo is a colourful game

You make some good points.

They could possibly still be ‘Black Team’ but called differently for reasons that you stated

You had me until you tried to say Locke is Johnson’s son. He’s not.

That’s a very interesting point. And the woman he fell in love with, and got it on with was Jilan al-Cygni just fyi. It was in Halo Contact Harvest.
