So, after reading through Newblood, I’ve been thinking. Spoilers follow.
With rookie dead, Mickey in prison, and Dutch no longer a soldier, do you think we’ll see Romeo and Buck as a part of Locke’s team in Halo 5?
I mean, ODST characters didn’t really NEED a follow up, and with how ODST is being brought onto XB1, I can only think there’s a reason these characters are being brought up again.
And one final note, do you think the rookie is actually dead? I mean, the Didact has supposedly “died” twice, and hasn’t 343 said something about not killing off major characters in books?
So, what do you guys think? Also, what’s your opinion on the new book?
Just a tip, you should add “New Blood Spoilers” into the thread title as a safeguard against eventual outcome of people forgetting to use spoiler tags when posting in the thread.

I’ll change it now.

I hope we see him in H5. Loved him in ODST, and I think he’d fit in well. It would also be nice to see 343 using old Bungie characters as opposed to just creating new ones.
Speaking of returning characters, do you think we’ll see good ol’ Half Jaw? What about Jun? He was in the book, so why not have him in some capacity in 5?
Also, what are the chances that the rookie is still alive? Would 343 pull a body double thing or something and bring him back? I can’t see the reasoning behind killing a main/playable character in a book that maybe 1/4th of the fanbase will even be aware of, let alone read.
I could see Buck being one of them but not the other guy.
It’s too much of a coincidence to have a novel talking about all those characters, and the fact that they become S-IVto now go and say that it will not affect in some way the future storyline, even if it’s only in their new Spartan Ops
Ah, fudgebucket. I couldn’t resist clicking the spoiler tag. Why do I never learn?
On another note…wha? New Blood is out!? I completely forgot about it. vanishes to acquire copy–I’ll see you later!
13 minutes later: Seriously!? The amount of trouble I have to go through to actually find a website which will allow me to buy this thing…grrr. Here’s my money! Why won’t you take it!? Anyway…
I do agree it’s likely that he might be in 5. Or they could be setting up for a smaller game to fit between the release of halo 5 and 6. And releasing a the book after h5 could be to much of a hint of a new game. Not h6 but something in between.
If they are the 3 spartan with lockes team in h2a.
The 3 could be buck romeo, and the pink one possibly spartan dare, or the girl from nightfall.
When bucks team asked who dare was he referred to her as Mrs naval intelligence( ONI). So she might be the pink one since locke is working for oni.
I think it’s possible that Romeo could return as a member of Locke’s squad – if not then as a minor role in Halo 5. He is voiced by Nolan North, who has had past roles in Halo as he played the role as Sgt. Forge and Romeo, as well as famous characters outside of the series such as Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series. I don’t see why 343 Industries want North aboard. They could turn him from an arrogant jerk into a really great character.

What’s with all the assumption that the pink one is a girl? Sexist much. The pink one could be Buck or Romeo, you never no…
“Also, what are the chances that the rookie is still alive?”
Nope. Buck knew what the Rookie looked like, and he witnessed the Rookie’s brains being blown out in person. They also buried the body a few weeks later. RIP, Rookie.
343 industries has a bad habit of killing off good characters in obscure forms of media. I play the games, I read the books, I watch the terminals and live-action shorts/series and have seen Halo Legends and the motion-comic adaptations–and yet, every so often I see “Character X was killed” in one of the comics, or maybe even in one of the blogs on Halo Waypoint. It’s frustrating, but at least Halo: New Blood is a fun read. I’ve still got about a quarter of the book to go.

The Rookie wasn’t so much a character as he was a vessel through which the story was told. He had no name, no lines of dialogue and no personality. HE’s hardly a major character, and he served his purpose by bringingh all of the ODST squad together just as he had done in life. Now if they had killed Buck, that’d be a huge blow, but Rookie had no character to lose other than simply existing

No name. Check. No lines of dialogue. Check. No personality? People are defined by the people and events that surround them and their responses to them Even the very lack of a response tells me that the Rookie is nothing like me, because there is no chance I’d put up with the --Yoink-- he went through. The Rookie belongs in the same class of character as Gordon Freeman and Chell, and is very similar to Noble Six and Master Chief.
I’d also like to refer you to Majestic Team, Spartan Team Black, the Spartan-III survivors from Onyx, and probably even Gray Team and the Spirit of Fire–it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that the crew of the Spirit of Fire did not escape the Flood, and perished in deep space. Or that Admiral Preston J. Cole is dead by now. 343 industries is that kind of company–they tie up loose ends by killing them off.
But I completely agree with you–we can’t have the captain of the Serenity die. No freaking way.
Oh, and I’ve finished reading New Blood. Great book. Little short, but Buck’s character was absolutely spot on
am still struggling to see the Spartans with so much emotional affect. Still, Romeo is one of my all time favorites so here’s hoping he makes a cameo in 5.

Shot in the head by an Insurrectionist while being held hostage.

I would love to see blue team and grey team and I even would like to see more Osman, Naomi.
i’d love to see half jaw. And jun is in the comics purely administrative level, i doubt we will see him in combat, but i would love to see him and his “team” in some capacity similar to Osman in Spartan ops but a little more in depth.
In the book it is very well done sad and emotional. Its also important to the story and the development of the characters.
im sure fan who care enough about the lore and story will find out other really wouldn’t care enough to make a bug stink about it
Read the spoiler, specifically the parts about Dutch, Mickey and the Rookie. My reaction to 343 could be summed up as “G T F O or just simply go to hell”. Not pleased with the direction they went there at all.
Buck is ALWAYS a plus though, hopefully he gets added to the Infinity’s roster and puts a boot in the -Yoink- of every “Spartan” there along with Palmer. Bout time they had a real leader join their ranks.
Couldn’t care any less about Romeo however, big MEH as far as I’m concerned.

But you have no context Yeah when you here what happened it sounds stupid but the way i played out with in the whole picture it makes sense it was done well, it wasn’t blatant disrespect It not like team black.the book as a whole was fantastic and in context it was great most of the people i see complaining either hadn’t finished the book or never read it.
I really think $5 is a good price for this book, and it will give you a whole lot more context.
Trust me with in the story every fit nicely is it sad yeah, is it emotional sure. but its not bad in any way.

Spoiler alert False lore
Well on YouTube many people were thinking the pink spartan was Sargent Johnson. Which I agree with, many people think Johnson is dead, but I have a theory that he may have survived, and was just off hugging elites during the events of h4.
And he joins forces with locke to get closer to the arbiter and the elites. You see Johnson had a dream that one day humans and aliens would put aside their differences and join as one, with a warm and cozy hug.
I’m not a Sexist. But maybe bungie, you have to admit it was Kinda very unlucky that cat was killed by a head shot right, because women have small brains and all.
thats probably why cortana didn’t pick her over chief, even though she’s -Yoink-.
When do you think locke will get up enough courage to ask halo guy out already. They really left us on a cliff hanger in h2a, seems it might happen in h5. We can only hope.
I’m sorry if I offended anyone I’m only joking. Around. I love the halo story and my fellow humans.
