Now, I know Agent Locke is the new big hero in all; but I was wondering what exactly people thought about him. Do you like the story and the sudden change of events and change of perspective/character? I was also wondering if 343 had a surprise in the campaign. For example, you shift FROM Locke and the Master Chief, like Bungie did with Halo: 2? That would be interesting, right? Another thing that catch’s my interest: DR.Halsey. What if she has a big part in Halo 5: Guardians? Maybe she’ll try to stop Locke, and try to find the Master Chief on her own? And if she get’s him, then what? I’m not sure, but it’s a few things that got me thinking…
I wasn’t impressed with “Nightfall”, he just didn’t impress me in it.
He didn’t take charge as a leader should, he didn’t attempt to sacrifice himself a hero would. He merely voiced his opinions, while others acted. Just not impressed.
He survived.
While Nightfall was cheesy at some points, it was Halo, which means I automatically like it.
I like Locke and I’m excited to see him in action.
The big climax in Halo 5 is when Locke and Master Chief meet. Proof:
Game Description: “The quest of the Hunter and the Hunted has begun.”
I wasn’t impressed with him, sadly. He just seemed like a normal person with a decent moral compass. after watching nightfall, I feel that it’s a huge missed chance that the spartan played by Steven Waddington isn’t taking locke’s place. I know it was already planned out, but he was a way better character, and much more interesting and relateable. I personally feel that he would have been a worthy successor to the chief.

Halsey as a playable character? Instead of killing aliens, we could kill thesis papers and recruit children for controversial experiments.
Trading Bullets for hours of paperwork. Would be glorious.

NO ONE can replace the Chief.

Noble 6 could. He was just as deadly as chief, if not more deadly.

Oh yeah…
He was a sorry leader in nightfall and out shined by the ex spartan in the show. I did not see anything great about him in the show. Here to the game changing my mind on him.

Except his character has less development than a rock, and is completely bland. (Not to mention he doesn’t have any key roles in the Halo universe as a whole) It just wouldn’t happen.

I think Randal interacting with his S-II brothers and sisters after having left them would have been a very intriguing story. I don’t really think him going on Locke’s quest would have worked though.

^This. He was as bad as the Rookie in H3:ODST. If I see another character like that lazily written into the Halo universe one more time, then I will question their creativity just as I am doing now with Bungie.
I like that 343 are bringing so many new and even old characters into halo. I feel like we have many more awesome characters coming into halo compared to what we had in h1-3.
After hearing a lot of community speculation, I believe the big Halo 5 campaign surprise/innovation for the franchise will be squad based gameplay. This means you will be able to direct AI teammates to attack/defend or go to a certain location using button prompts, similar to the Mass Effect series squad gameplay. Think about it, Agent Locke has three unknown Spartans in his team while the Master Chief is rumored to have the remaining members of BLUE team on his squad which includes Fred, Linda, and Kelly. It has to be more than mere coincidence that both of Halo 5’s protagonist have exactly 4 people total in their squad. Perhaps the biggest evidence for this theory is that Tim Longo, former creative director of Star Wars: republic Commando is now creative director on Halo 5. Star Wars: Republic Commando was a first-person shooter with strong tactical gameplay that focused around commanding a team of Clone Troopers. I personally am excited for a change of pace in Halo that mixes up the gameplay but still stays true to the old Halo feel.

You mean like the CoD: Ghosts game mode: Squads? I wouldn’t be surprised.

Definitely not. Most 3s didn’t have a geas, as far as we know due to a larger genetic pool the recruited from, not how Halsey and the Spartan 2s were recruited. He also didn’t have Chief’s luck nor do any of his fellow 2s. So, 6 probably wouldn’t have gotten as far let alone been able to touch or use any forerunner tech. Along with what others said.
Any Earth missions he would of been just as good sure, but anything to do with the forerunnerd, he could of ended up like some other fellow 3s on Onyx, the ones that didn’t survive. Luckily he was gone before that.
And to the OP, didnt mean to go off topic, but I thought I saw from the devs themselves we will be able to play as him. Microsoft said also that Chief is going nowhere soon, as in not being killed off yet. So plenty if stories to go.
I would think we’ll have some back and forth banter or talk between Chief and Locke, along with the individual stories, we’ll see. Halsey we will have to wait and see after the comic Escelation series ends or at least what happens to Halsey. That comic is still ongoing and plenty of lore to derive from it. We’ll see more soon enough!
The problem I have with Locke is that he’s that stereotypical morally correct, reflected and loyal type of leader who gets his job done while at the same time (of course!) doing the right thing.
Nightfall took no risks with the character at all… just introduced another ‘good guy’ which is not awful for videogame-standards but Locke lacked any kind of special personality.
For me it all depends on how his character will be developed in H5 - if anything Locke offers a great possibilty to have a ‘human’ character with all of his emotions and failures as the lead - which is something Chief could never show.
I’m just a little scared that 343i will play it too safe.

Well to be honest with you on this, chief was a bland character in game until 4. Every game he was in up until 4 all he did was do something big and heroic then he would say a one liner.
Bungie, for some stupid reason, loves to try and make games compelling by making their main character faceless and voiceless.
Six wasn’t a 2 or, as far as we know, wasn’t a reclaimer. However, we’re not sure if humanity in general are all reclaimers. Johnson, Miranda Keyes, John are all reclaimers so it’s unclear on which ones are reclaimers.
Six worked with ONI and I believe he was a headhunter operator; LONE WOLF ops were one man, suicide missions. Six was the only other Spartan to get the description of “hyper lethal.” Six isn’t a II or anything special with the forerunners but the fact the he has a kill count possibly higher than Chief and with Six being a III having that record shows that he, in my opinion, was a better soldier and was a better overall weapon against insurrectionists and covenant.
Also, if it wasn’t for 6, Master Chief and the Autumn would have been destroyed. People look at 6 and say “he did nothing but destroy a ship,” but that ship could’ve also ended humanity’s hope against the covenant right there. Six also held waves of Covenant forces for hours until being overwhelmed by Zealot and Field Marshall rank elites due to exhaustion. All people get exhausted no matter how good of a soldier they are. It would’ve happened with any of the 2’s, they may have lasted longer but they would’ve got overwhelmed just like 6.
