Locke vs Chief "blowout"

I’m gonna go ahead and pop my forum cherry with this thread. I’m a little drunk and restless and for some peculiar reason this came to my mind, and I’m sure I’m not the only person to bring this to the forums attention. I just couldn’t find anything in the immediate list of topics that pertained to my frustration.

So

All we saw in the pre-game hype trailers was an extended introduction on Spartan Locke, and his impending quarrels with the Master Chief. They even went as far as to include two separate trailers that depicted either Locke or Chief, delivering extended monologue on the other’s respective antagonism. This really gave the impression that there would be choice-based paths that you could choose, and that there would be more than a minute long fight between the two Spartans. I must admit that while the fight between the two was appealing to watch, it ultimately disappointed me when I realized that it would be the peak of their quarrel with each other. The rest of the campaign would be dedicated to Blue team rescuing Cortana, and Osiris rescuing Blue Team.

Now, while the A-B-C rescue game was somewhat entertaining, it was not nearly as interesting as a spartan showdown between the greatest Spartan who’s ever lived, and someone who could actually give him a run for his money. Now if you remember, we’ve never seen Chief take on someone who may be more than he could handle, and especially not another human(I’m excluding the books, of course.) And I highly doubt there will be more conflict as the Chief is now in debt to his savior Locke.

Thoughts? Was the end result enough to take away the misleading of the trailers, or did the misleading trailer only increase your curiousity and leave you feeling underwhelmed,

Hugely underwhelming. I’m not expecting anything good to come from any further campaigns no matter what 343i claims to have in ads or discussions. They completely lied to us. There wasn’t even any character development between the teams.

I wholeheartedly agree. Not only did we have very little introduction to Osiris team(excluding Buck), but we also didn’t get any insight to how Blue team even reunited, or who they even are? I, of course, am aware of who Blue Team is, as I read the books. However, many people don’t, as I would argue most players knowledge of the game is limited strictly to the games. And I shouldn’t have to watch a feature-length film to get effective backstory for a video game. The game should provide sufficient data. And all the characters are sheep, mindless sheep following their respective leaders, excluding Buck, once more. And they don’t even explain how Buck came to be in a Spartan team. It’s all very shoddy and seemed almost put together over night.

FTR: I do enjoy the multi-player, and I’m overall pleased with my purchase.

You’re sitting at home watching TV.

Suddenly what comes on is an ad for a wrestling match coming up. You see burly, costumed men duking it out to the sound of sirens with explosions in the background and you’re thinking -Yoink- yeah, I gotta go see that. You jot down the scheduled time for the match.

Saturday rolls around. It’s finally time. You show up at the location at the right time, and you walk inside. However, what you see isn’t a wrestling match. It’s a comic book convention with tons of tables set up around the central ring, and in the ring itself you spot a few cosplayers lazily re-enacting some battles from their respective source material. You double check the location, the timing, etc. You start asking around. Nope, you really are actually at the right place.

You’re left wondering “What the -Yoink- was that advertising deal all about? How is any of this remotely relevant to the commercial I watched all those days ago?”

And that’s Halo 5’s marketing in a nutshell.

^ This. Very good analogy.
oh yeah. And the Osiris missions (most of the campaign) were very short.

Exactly! And don’t get me started on “Hippie Chief sandman in a cloak”, none of the marketing ads gave the slightest inkling to what the campaign would be. I almost feel personally misdirected. Did 343i do this on purpose? I feel like even they would know how counter-productive misleading marketing can be. As a Public Relations major, misleading the public is certainly not a great way to make consumers enjoy your product.

So 343i, if you’re hiring…

When Chief smacked Locke’s beloved BR to his face I think Locke tried to get his Armour Restraint out then cos he knew Chief takes s**t with no one

Totally got screwed by the hype… and Master Chief’s visor should not have been broken wtf made him look weak… we didn’t even get to play as Chief barely… that pissed me off more than any thing else… Halo 3 did a good balance of adding the Arbiter… but it wasn’t overwhelmed by the Arbiter at all like Osiris did Halo 5… and ODST and REACH were at least supposed to be without Chief… But Halo 5 NO -Yoink!- EXCUSE FOR THAT AT ALL>>>>>>NOT TO MENTION NO SAGE OR OLIVE COLORS WTF 343

I thought the fight was very well done. This new trilogy is suppose to expose Chief as somewhat vulnerable and human. He should struggle a little bit against another Spartan. I’m not arguing about the fight, simply the nature of the two character’s relationship.

sorry about your colors m8
