This is a theory, but let’s look at the facts that support this claim:
- In the HuntTheSignal marketing campaign, it’s revealed that Locke will get an AI and that the AI is connected with Halsey in some way. (Also see this link) - In the official launch trailer, Halsey is talking to Locke and says "Oni will order you to kill “both of us”, as she says this there is a scene of her (flashback?) approaching a table in a dark room with a bright blue glowing object (same color as Cortana) hidden from sight - In the Sprint, Season 2, there is a line where Halsey is shown to be talking with Palmer, Locke, and Laskey on the Infinity and she says “John is not equipped emotionally to deal with her as a threat.” - In the newly posted description of fireteam Osiris on IGN, there is a minor plot spoiler that says “Locke would be tasked with hunting down Master Chief. To help on this mission he tasked an Artificial Intelligence to look for weaknesses in the Blue Team and the Spartan II’s he would be hunting” (a nod to the HuntTheSignal campaign) - In Halo 4, the idea is explored that Cortana could in theory be recreated as she is built from organic tissue to essentially be a digital clone of Halsey, but Cortana warns Chief that it wouldn’t really be her againSo what does this mean? Is Locke somehow employing a new version of Cortana to hunt chief and blue team? What do you guys think?
Oh my! This I have never thought of before. You may be on to something GOOD! If this does end up happening, I will literally cry tears of sadness.
very interesting theory that would be a twist

There are flaws in the theory, however, as it appears that the “Ghost of Cortana” somehow appears to be communicating with the Chief through the domain, where he has a vision of her and she tells him to go to Meridian, and that the reclamation has begun. The game seems too crowded to have 2 Cortana characters…
I honestly have no idea what the hell is going on in Halo 5, I just thought it might be an interesting theory.
I think you’re kind of misinterpreting the text and what happened during the #HUNTtheSIGNAL campaign. During that ARG/contest, you were playing the role of the AI Locke was using to gather information. This is what the IGN article is referencing, and that is why the AI remains unidentified - it was just an avatar for those participating in the contest. I highly doubt he’ll have any AI in the game, seeing as how heavy emphasis has been put on your squadmates to fulfill that role. The image of Halsey in her lab from the launch trailer is most likely just a flashback to when she was still working on Reach.
I’d ask if I could buy some crack off you, but it appears you’ve smoked it all.
so now chief will kill locke for using her against him then take the ai and use it lol
Oh man. That’s just too good.
It almost seems so juicy that it has to be true. It’s like why would they NOT go that path with the story?
It would be cool if during a confrontation between Locke & Chief, Locke’s Cortana is revealed to the Chief & the Chief makes some kind of comment towards her…something that the old Cortana (and we, the fans) should instantly recognize, but Locke’s Cortana doesn’t get the reference and just looks at chief like she’s confused. Then we see just a very slight indication of disapointment in Chief’s body language but nothing more than that. The chief always keeps his cool but we know it hit Chief & by extension, us, in the feels.
There are several recurring phrases & little jokes between chief & cortana & I bet one of them would be perfect for that scenario.
I would also like the personality of Locke’s Cortana to be more or less exactly like the old Cortana…except she just happens to be devoted to Locke’s mission.
This could make for some really awesome moments, but i’ve seen nothing to indicate Locke is going to have an AI with him and Osiris throughout the game. 343i could always surprise us though.
I don’t know man, I mean, we got Tanaka, Buck, Vale, Locke all chatting, plus Palmer, Arbiter, and Lasky on comms, plus now an AI? That’s just a lot going on for the gameplay. The gameplay we saw on Sangheilios was chatter-heavy as it is.

Not to mention she has both of her arms
I like this theory tho. It would make things quite interesting!

No just no I would be so pissed off at 343 that would be too brutal. I can agree with using a version of cortana but not Chiefs exact cortana with all the banter and everything.
Plot twist, black box is cortana’s grandma

Yeah, like I said to someone else, the theory definitely has flaws. We already know Chief has some kind of vision of Cortana, and frankly, it would be stupid to have two different versions of Cortana in the same game as well as 3 squadmates all talking at once.
That being said, Cortana is playing a very significant role in this game in one way or another. It appears that someone could be using the Chief to activate the guardians through the image of Cortana while speaking through the domain (which the warden eternal refers to when he says “I am the Warden Eternal, keeper of the domain and her secrets. The Master Chief has been called, but your access has been denied.”
It’s all going to come back to Halsey, the librarian, and whatever the librarian did to Chief in Halo 4 (but also remember that she also mentioned Cortana when she was speaking with him, stating “Reclaimer, when I indexed mankind for repopulation, I hid seeds from the Didact. Seeds which would lead to an eventuality. Your physical evolution. Your combat skin. Even your ancilla, Cortana. You are the culmination of a thousand lifetimes of planning.”) I have no idea how it will happen, but I’m stoked.
Plot twist. This new Ai isn’t programmed yet, and is just a host for Cortana to be fixed. Why might you ask? A bargaining chip to get chief back, but it back fires. He feels Cortana has created her self a new, maybe a real body some how.

That’s a very good point.
I do not know if he will use a new Cortana… But it wouldn’t surprise me if Locke’s AI, knowing 117’s seeing “ghosts,” actually pulls an MB by using the Chief’s suit’s sensors to trick him into following a Cortana.
I don’t believe the ruse will end well for Locke. He’ll live, but it’ll be one hell of a headache.
