If 343 really is deciding to move to another hero, I’m curious who we, the Halo community, would prefer. If you could choose between 343 continuing with Locke or the chance to have your Spartan (like Noble 6 in Reach) as the hero in upcoming games, which would you pick?
I personally want it to be my Spartan. The chance to see my armour in cutscenes was one of my favorite things in Reach.
Interesting . . . I like your own character kinda thing, but it’s easier to have good stories and better cutscenes with a pre-created character.
The personal spartan was what held reach together, also, Reach had the best customization.
The main games should mainly be the story through Chief’s (and now also the rest of Blue Team) perspective. Although The Arbiter was done right in Halo 2. There can be spin-offs for new characters. It just didn’t feel right to play as Locke to me. Same with Vale and Tanaka, I just didn’t care about them. Buck on the other hand… Well, who doesn’t like him? Blue Team’s missions and cutscenes are also the best parts about the campaign.
Also, normally I’m not a big fan of just a blank character in a campaign, bit it did work well in Halo: Reach.

Yeah, there can be character development, and the backstory isn’t forced onto you directly. You’re playing someone else, playing that character’s story.
I chose Locke because I like the idea of a preconceived little backstory for a spartan.
I was the best Spartan. Chief wouldn’t have saved anything If I didn’t hold the covenant off to give the Pillar of Autumn time to leave.
Even a character as bland as Noble 6 was more enjoyable than Locke. Hell, all of Noble team was better than Osiris. Never saw why people liked Buck so much. Boring character.

I mean, noble is not our spartan. Its only a guy copying my armor. Never my spartan has been killed by an elite, he is currently doing warzone on the infinty .
Locke, because blank slate characters are just a lazy way out for devs. I like Locke for his character, and the way it shines through Halo 5’s rather lackluster story.

Noble Six was us. Our impact on the story. It was us, personified in Halo. And it sort of makes sense. It’s the fans that bought the game, made Halo as big as it was. Contributed greatly to it’s success. Like Noble Six’s actions propelling the story, contributing to Master Chief’s success and the end of the Human-Covenant War.
While Locke is just…Locke.
So yes, I vote for myself over the wanna-be-Master-Chief.
Locke. If you are talking about characters you play as other than John I like Rookie the most.
