Needless to say, we’re all fans of Halo’s characters and campaign. In particular, I think there’s a deep admiration for how Halo 2 balanced two playable characters (Master chief and Arbiter) into one great campaign, with each having their separate missions. This format was proven successful because it introduced us to the Arbiter- a character who had a greater arc than the Master Chief (my personal opinion of course) and a character who we’ve grown to appreciate and even enjoy to this day (He’s voiced by Keith David, C’mon!).
Now, a similar style was implemented in Halo 5, where “some” missions we played as a new character - Spartan Jameson Locke. I personally had mixed feelings about this new character and his role in the story. I appreciate being introduced to a new character and I even found the backstory for Spartan Locke to be intriguing; an ONI agent turned Spartan. However, the story for Halo 5 never really developed him as a character and there was virtually no character arc, at least not the way the Arbiter was developed in Halo 2. I think this is unfair for him because he had so much potential. An interesting arc for Locke could’ve been him realizing he was just a product for the horribly corrupt ONI or something like that. Instead, we got hardly anything from him.
So with Halo Infinite in development, it’s not crazy to assume we will get a campaign shared by two characters once again. My questions is who should share the campaign with the Master Chief? Should Spartan Locke take the spot and be given the proper chance he deserves to be developed? Or should 343 play it safe and return to the dynamic duo and give the spot to Arbiter?
Arbiter all the way
I think Locke has potential, unfortunately his debut game was H5 lol I don’t think he should get canned yet. If I had to choose between Arbiter and Locke as a playable character I’d definitely choose Arbiter, but I want them to still keep Locke in the story and flesh him out.
The studio head Chris Lee said: “The team also heard feedback loud and clear on the amount of time spent playing as the Master Chief in Halo 5. In Halo Infinite, the game will focus on the Master Chief and continue his saga after the events of Halo 5”
I don’t think we’ll see other characters that, but if I have to choose the Arbiter is the best.
Honestly I’d say keep this campaign exclusive to the chief with Locke in it but not “sharing” some missions if that makes sense. Build him up and maybe hold a separate non main Halo title game where they can further build him up to the soldier they want him to be

My thoughts, exactly! Arbiter for sure!
I’d be fine with either or, but they really need to pick up the character development slack if they go with Locke. Because I’m OK with Locke sharing the spotlight with Chief, it’s just…he kinda TOOK the spotlight in H5 and Chief was just there feeling like that third wheel in the relationship…
Hate to say it, but they need to emphasize Locke more than Arby. The arbiter has already fought side by side with Chief in Halo 3, so if they do the same thing again in Halo 6, it will just feel redundant and make all the moments with Arbiter in Halo 3 less special.
I say if they use the same campaign formula as Halo 3 but Locke serves the same purpose as Arby did in Halo 3, it’ll work out great. All they have to do is give Locke better dialogue and show more of his true personality and I think he would be a great character to fight along side with. Who knows, with a good writer Locke could be one of the coolest and funniest characters in the game.
Arbiter has his own people to serve and should be doing his own thing. Of course he should be in the campaign, burn focusing on what he’s doing would just draw away from the Chief experience.
A knock off gsme where you play as Arby during the events of Halo 6? Yes, why not.
Arbiter is my favorite character in Halo, so he would be my choice regardless who the other is.
Highly doubtful we’ll play as anyone but the chief in infinite after all the criticism. And I don’t see anyone picking Locke over Arby just not going to happen. But ya he deserves a second chance atleast as a side kick.
As other’s have said before, 343 confirmed that Chief will be who we play as in Infinite. As a side character I’d say Locke has some nice potential if properly utilised, but I’m going to have to say Arby.
Arby is an OG and Locke has potential to be great. So i’m fine with either.
But i’m inclined to believe that Blue team will return.Infinite is confirmed to have 4 player splitscreen. It’s a simpler to decision to add them since they’d fill the 3 co-op slots and, they’re Chief’s closest companions.Blue team is the best choice.
I actually expect a solo Master Chief experience.
We are all getting the impression Halo Infinite will have a return to its roots, but I have other reasons for thinking this, as well as a few more ideas.
There is a sort of “mirroring” you can see in Bungie’s Halo Trilogy and the Reclaimer Saga.
Halo: CE/Halo 4
- Halo: CE - Wake up in from Cryo, crash on Halo. Halo 4 - Wake up from Cryo, crash on Requiem. - Halo: CE - Escape Halo and destroy it. Halo 4 (SpartanOps) - Escape Requiem and destroy it.
Halo 2/Halo 5: Guardians
- Halo 2 - Two playable protagonists. Halo 5 - Two playable protagonists. - Halo 2 - Discover another Halo ring (Delta 05). Halo 5 - Discover another Forerunner planet. (Requiem was a Shield World, but still.) - Halo 2 - Boss fights with Regret, Sentinel Enforcer, and Tartarus. Halo 5 - Warden Eternal(s).
And I’m sure there’s more, this is just what came to mind quickly. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at Halo 3.
- Return to Master Chief as only playable character in solo campaign. - Searching for Cortana. - Teaming up (briefly with the Flood) - Returning to Halo ring.We know that Halo Infinite will hit points 2 and 4, and so I suspect point 1 as well.
On top of that, I have it in my head we may see the Didact return as the Flood surrogate, temporarily teaming up with a fragile alliance to stop her, before returning to fighting each other. As we know, he wasn’t killed in the comic but composed. This is an anticlimactic ending though, so I have my suspicions for his use again in the story.
Definitely the Arbiter but his original armor needs to return

I don’t care about the armor but his body needs to be slimmer as in the past and not bulky like in Halo 5

I agree that 343 has mirrored a lot of the themes from the Bungie era games. But if they are going to be mirroring Halo 3 with Infinite, then the Arbiter could easily be included as a secondary character or a playable character in co-op. Which is to say, it may not be a solo experience like Halo CE, but more of a dual experience like Halo 3.

I completely agree about Co-op!

His body is the same as it’s always been it’s the armor
i dont trust 343 with the arbiter after the 5 such a waste of the character so id prefer just master chief and coop partners be your multiplayer Spartans

I am not sure about that. It’s a little tricky to tell under the armor, but comparing these two images I think you can see his model in Halo 5 is of the new Elites where the mandibles are much higher.
- Halo 2: Anniversary - Halo 5: Guardians - And here is a Sangheili General in Halo 5: Guardians to get a better idea of the model used in Halo 4 onward.Note that GrimBrother One has commented on this stating that it was a reused asset due to cost.
- Link 1 - Link 2That said, it would be great for his original phenotype to be used in Halo Infinite.
