Locke & Chief duo image

Anyone else starting to wonder if Joe Statens work on campaign DLC will have Chief and Locke combining into a duo and end the Banished war?
With some cool plot twists here and there?

If Chief and Locke would become a duo in Infinite then the parallells to the original trilogy, would be complete.

Halo CE: Crashlanding on a Halo ring with Pillar of Autumn.
Halo 4: Crashlanding on Requiem with Infinity.

Halo 2: Switching point of perspective from Chief to Arbiter.
Halo 5: Switching point of perspective from Chief to Locke.

Halo 3: Chief and Arbiter becomes allies and end the covenant war.
Halo Infinite: Chief and Locke becomes allies and end the Banished war??

interesting idea, and i’m not opposed to seeing locke again, but lets see the guy struggle a little, give him some character. make a scenario where Locke is saved by chief and can recognize why he is the goat. that could lead to all sorts of things, a locke dlc perhaps… make him a good character and hell ya… take my money. but for now… they messed up trying to replace chief with locke in Halo 5 so id like Locke to get pummeled a little, teach him to respect the chief, show him why chief is worth following. AKA give him some character development and he has the potential to be a great character. NOT CHIEF, but a different character to help play off of chief and perhaps give the player a perspective of the standard unsc Spartan 4 mindset and tactics vs the old spartan 2 tactics

Locke is most likely dead or he will come out of nowhere and become a hero during some DLC or something.

I don’t think Locke is dead.

What I think is that: the backlash of Halo 5 made 343I insecure in their storywriting take on Halo.
So they scrapped their characters to go a more safe route with Infinite.

But with Joe joining the team, I think he understands that the characters are not bad.
They just need good writing and exist in good plots to take the throne as good Halo characters, that are on respectable characters for the Halo franchise.

So I think that Joe made the team cut down the campaign, because of this.
So he could make the comeback of these characters in the best way their existence in Halo can be.

All we know is Hyperius beat the dog snot out of Locke, took his helmet and his chest piece and then sent him crawling back to the UNSC as a warning. For six months after that, no one has heard a word about Locke… but I’m sure with 343’s weird, disconnected writing, he’ll probably pop up out of nowhere somewhere on the Zeta Ring with a full army of UNSC marines and Spartans.

remember Joe Staten is back at the stories helm… i highly recommend his halo books, they guy knows how to write a good story for sure… my hopes are up for the future of the story… but ya if lock appears with a few missing teeth and a black eye… i wouldn’t be too upset, hell the more damage hes gotten done to him the more respect he will earn imo… but remember this golden rule… Show, don’t tell… lets see a cut scene of locke being obliterated… if it makes me cringe for locke… all the better… make him work for the players respect… don’t expect it

I know, but so far I’m still not enjoying Infinite’s story telling.

And if Locke does come back with some battle scars, that would be pretty badass lol maybe a prosthetic limb or an eye patch.

hell ya now ur gettin it… prosthetic arm… i like that… eyepatch… eh lets do better… show us the missing eye… or the side of the face it should be located anyway… he would earn mad rep doing that

I hate this. Every time we have a character show up to take the lead role for a bit, and everyone hates them, for whatever reason we always have to rob them of something.

It happened to Raiden.

It happened to Apollo Justice.

Why does it need to happen to Locke too? This trend needs to stay in the oughts.

Honestly I rather have Locke run his own story on the ring first. I always thought the idea of having Buck and Locke split from Osiris on the ring was a cool idea. Then facing foes together like some sort of classic duo combination. Rather than jump and end the war.

Definitely more interested in this and the rest of Osiris or whatever is left of it on the Infinity.

Not going to lie, i find Locke super lame and don’t really ever want to see him again. Now Buck on the other hand would be super cool to see again. Also the Arbiter should come back some how (maybe one day when/if we get playable elites).

And i wouldn’t mind Sgt. Johnson coming back and someone asking him how he survived and he just says “That’s classified” like he does in Halo 2. Then he tells Chief he is sorry he is late or something like that.

As though this was ever an issue? There is nothing to suggest at all that Locke ever thought that John was not an exceptional Spartan. (GOAT is fanbase going to far, as there are many things John does not excel at that other Spartans do)

the problem isnt the bew character… its his role… replace chief… that was halo 5… again… read carefully… he has the potential to be great… but he needs to be his own character… there is already a master chief,… show us lockes weaknesses and vulnerabilities in his CHARACTER not body but personality… thats how u make a character… locke hasnt gotten that yet and what he did get was a new commer saying out with the old and in with the new… ya that has never worked in storytelling and likely never will… all jokes aside locke hasnt earned any respect in the players eyes as of yet… so i dont hate him… but he needs character development desperately

lol so then why do the fans dislike him… ur wrong for a simple reason…locke did not earn his place as chiefs replacement in halo 5… if he has scars… we didnt see them… if he has a personality… it didnt show…ill keep stating this until everyone gets it… LOCKE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A GREAT CHARACTER… he just isnt there yet… whatthe scenario i painted would do is show respect for the old while acknowledging then new… thats a formula for introducing new key characters… look at Laskey… perfect example… who is he ment to replace… Johnson of course… but as u see throughout halo 4… he is willing to break chain of command to take chiefs side… thats respect… that takes balls… he has proven he could fill johnsons role in halo 4 quite well… to bad abondoned that idea but esparza seems like he could fit that role nicely… he complains a lot in the campaign but mark my words u will contrast that to his later Iterations and see character development… and thats how a good story is told

I think the solution is, if you they plan to make the hull of vehicles stronger, they need to make their weakness have more impact.

Like the warthog’s weakness is the front and the wheels. Id say the front just accepts more damage with the engine out, and the more wheels blown off, the slower it gets to the point where if 3 tires are out, it can’t drive anymore.

This can apply to other vehicles as well. Ghost wing’s control, tank wheels make it slower/back engine makes it turn slower, etc.

OP

That’s old artwork. There’s also concept art of Forerunner Soldierd fighting Banished and a ton of Halo Wars 2 art for the Prometheans fighting Banished on the Ark.

It depends. The bitter cynic in me thinks that 343 are cowards who want to run from Halo 5 and procrastinated for six years when they could have gracefully resolved the Created story arc with a single game and a Halo Wars 2 DLC. Plus novels that actually talk about and not around the Created Rebellion. So they’re just retconning it and resetting things to as they were in Halo 4. Locke has no real place in such a story except as another generic Spartan IV.

On the other hand. I did get a weird sense playing the game that, are you essentially having a second go at Halo 5. You start the game thinking Cortana is dead but her spirit is enigmatically guiding you on this path. It is a lot like the early part of Halo 5. Like one of the main criticism people had of Halo 5 was that you did not get to see Chief deal with losing Cortana and that’s basically 70 percent of the Infinite campaign. With the difference being that she is actually good now. In that context, are they building towards the Chief in some way bringing Cortana back and in that case is that how they redo Chief vs Locke. He become THE MAN trying to stop Chief either bringing Cortana back or powering up the Weapon.

Do you want my honest opinion on that?

You’re wrong in that Locke wasn’t there to replace John. So…

…No? If anything, he would be “replacing” Captain Keyes. But this follows the same misconception that new characters are there to replace someone. Johnson never “broke chain of command” to take the Chief’s side (to the point, technically neither did Lasky).

I don’t think it’s worth bothering with that one tbh.

No. Definitely not. If Locke is to come back, he needs his own campaign, his own story and character arc.

The entire bloody problem with Halo 5 was trying to have Locke share MC’s spotlight, and in the end he got more feature despite literally being a “who the f are you” character along with Tanka and Vale who we literally know nothing about before Halo 5 in game format. He along with Tanaka and Vale need more GAME story fleshing than trying to share someone else’s limelight again.

The only reason Arbiter worked when he shared Chief’s spotlight in Halo 2 was because he was directly involved with the events of Halo CE, and he has a complex character arc in relation and directly caused by Master Chief. What does Locke have? DURRR I AM SOME ONI AGENT SOMEHOW IN A POWER RANGER SUIT FOLLOWING MUH ORDERS. CHIEF MISBEHAVE DADDY NEEDS TO TEACH HIM A LESSON. OH DON’T FORGET MY OTHER TWO TEAM MATES WHO YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT AND BUCK, WE REMEMBER BUCK RIGHT? WE’RE TOTALLY FRIENDS BUT I IGNORE HIM IN EVERY CUTSCENE.
