EDIT: Never mind. Lock this thread, please.
Do you even AR bro? Hahaha… Just kidding. The H5 AR is the best the AR has ever been IMO. It doesn’t have ADS if you ask me, it has zoom now. The AR is an actual effect multiplayer weapon finally.
I’m having memories 3 years ago when my friends dare me to play Halo 4 only using the Assualt Rifle. The result was me getting 30-33 kills and 28 or 29 deaths.
Back on topic:
I find the AR to be effective in Halo 5. I hardly use ADS or scope to shoot down infantry. With the default skin of the AR, I think it’s based from this. I agree with I prefer the default skin of the Halo 4 AR over Halo 5’s AR.
I actually enjoyed more the AR in between those games; the H2A AR—that thing was beast.

Was just about to say the same thing. The H2A AR was an underrated monster.
But if I had to choose between 4 and 5’s, I’d go with 5’s.

Likewise for me between those two.
In Halo 4 I found myself using the Mag more, now don’t get me wrong the H5 Mag is a beast, But I do find myself using the AR more than I did in H4…wonder if my stats backup my thoughts on it lol.

I agree, 343 did a really good job with the AR (And Pistol for that matter). Feel like they hit a Home run here and hope it carries over.

Well the Halo 4 Stats are a little clunky to follow but looks like I was wrong must have used the H4 AR way more than I thought lol
In terms of damage it is the h5 AR. You have the headshot multiplier to go along with its fast ttk so long as you don’t miss. It WILL beat a BR if it doesn’t miss.
if we’re going by preference I can’t really say, I’ve never been one to really use them very often In any game so I never went out of my way to lock a favorite.

I agree.
The H5 AR is certainly more versatile than the H4 variant, which makes it better IMO. I don’t notice a difference in effectiveness at it’s closest of ranges as well. So, for my money, the H5 AR is superior and the best in the franchise.
Seems to me you’re perceiving the massive jump in effectiveness from the Reach AR to the H4 AR compared to the relatively minor change in H4 AR to H5 AR.
I felt that the halo 4 rifle did more damage to elites than halo 5
The Halo 5 AR is the best one. All of the other ones were underwhelming, underpowered, or whatever adjective one would use to describe the CE AR.

> One of the few things 343i has done right with the new Halo trilogy- as far as gameplay goes- is making the Assault Rifle, the most iconic weapon of the franchise, a more powerful and reliable weapon; one that in Halo 4 was able to compete with the Battle Rifle, DMR, and Carbine at close-to-medium range.
>
> As far as I’m concerned, they nailed it perfectly with the Halo 4 Assault Rifle. The balance was just right, and aesthetically… well, it was just as perfect. Except for the firing sounds- I preferred the sound effects of Halo: Reach’s AR to Halo 4’s- but they weren’t that bad.

> Halo 5’s Assault Rifle, by comparison, is… not good. It doesn’t feel as powerful when hip-fired as the Halo 4 version, I think it relies to heavily on the new ADS mechanic (why is there ADS in a Halo game again?) and the weapon itself obstructs more of your view than in Halo 4 or any of the previous Halo games. It also does not hold up as well against the Battle Rifle; even in Halo 3, I could handle BR users with the Assault Rifle well enough if I played smart, but in Halo 5? Forget it.

> The color palette on the Halo 5 AR looks rather ugly IMO, like somebody threw up on it. I like the sleek black-and-steel aesthetic of Halo 4’s AR better.
H5’s is way better. sleeker and more ammo
I liked Halo 4 for its beefy feeling, and the sound of it.
But Halo 5’s fits perfectly into the game. It’s well balanced. I just wish it didn’t sound so weak.
Halo 5’s AR
I will probably go with H5’s AR can’t really remember much of 4’s.

If that would make a return in Halo 5 it will put a smile on my face

It does sound pretty weak; makes me wish they stayed with the sound effects from H2A…
