With the current matchmaking system not being the best, I believe that there should be some kind of rank or play time requirement in order for players to access competitive play, or at least include non-competitive versions of invasion to social play. In order to provide the competitive game modes with an increase in balance I believe this to be an appropriate solution.
I think that halo reach’s competitive game modes require this, because I and many others have been in multiple games where teams have been incredibly unbalanced due to the fact that they contain up to three players who do not know how the game mode or weapons/vehicles within it work. Due to fact competitive play relies heavily on good teamwork and performance, even having just one of these new players on your team will likely result in a loss for your team and overall dissatisfaction and frustration with the game and its competitive matchmaking system.
To emphasise the point I am trying to make, since I have started playing competitive, the main things that i consistently see new players do include:
- Not understanding the basic game mode mechanics (I.e. not picking up the core/bomb or standing on objectives - Not knowing how to use vehicles correctly (I.e. Not knowing how to fly the Falcon, or flying it solo) - Taking multiple power weapons and not using them effectively or giving them to the enemy - Frequency to leave games at the start or throughout the match - Minimal use of communication and strategy - These players thinking that getting kills is more important than playing the objective - Consistent poor performance in relation to other teammatesI don’t want to make it seem as if i’m some kind of God tier player, but it really takes all the fun and competitiveness out of the game when you routinely get teamed with players who don’t even try or know how to play game mode. to that end, i don’t have any personal dislike for these player, I just think it would be better for the player base and the competitive game modes if newer player were required to first play on the social game modes for a time, before they are able to play competitively.
I know that a feature like this could cause the popularity of the competitive games to decrease, but i believe that these game modes should be for competitive players, and that they are unsuitable for people who are just starting to learn how to play.
