Local play would that work

Calling all halo fans that know a good bit about how things actually work when it comes to the technical side of online games.

Remembering Halo 3, would local play work better than what we’re dealing with now with desync and servers?

With local play I think that it would stop you from being put into servers that are not in your region. Then again there’s SBM and crossplay don’t help as well when it comes to connecting into games.

I think we need more options to turn on and off what we want to tailor the game better and to avoid the problems we are all having.

That opens the door for way more problems/exploits. I’m not an expert, but I know that much.

What problems did you have before with local play?

The only one I can think of is that when you enable certain settings in the MCC you would be punished with longer search times

Are you talking about campaign or custom games, offline play?

Or are you talking about the matchmaking using your machine as the server?

Wouldn’t know how I could use my xbox as a sever.

I’m talking about matchmaking back in halo 3 days. You had an option for local play. You wouldnt be put into any servers that were not in your region. With the MCC you have settings to pick and choose what servers you want, you could also have crossplay on or off as well as input on or off.

My question is with desync and lag being a problem now would local play be better for matchmaking?

Please define “local play”. Are you talking about LAN or region lock to your local servers?

If you’re talking about region lock and all players connecting to their local server then that would ensure all players have the lowest possible ping. It would only eliminate “desync” if it is ping related, however there is no evidence right now to suggest that desync is ping related as you get it even if you are connected at 20ms ping (obviously we don’t ever know what pings other players have in the same game or even if crossplay helps to cause desync). This is why players use geo filter so they can at least ensure they are doing whatever they can to have the lowest ping matches rather than connecting to servers thousands of miles away at over 100ms.
