Loadouts: Ruin Vehicle Gameplay

I really wish you couldnt choose a weapon for your secondary or
the grenade type you want to spawn with.

Vehicles are so underpowered thats its sad. Everyone spawns with plasma
pistol and plasma grenades which makes any vehicle almost pointless to drive.

The gauss is really the only good vehicle in the game and occasionally the
scorpion tank is alright.

Plasma pistol should only be a pick-up and the same with plasma grenades.

Honestly 2 plasma grenades shouldn’t kill a wraith. Vehicles were supposed to take
team work. When one player can PP a vehicle and then throw 2 grenades there is no
team work or skill involved in doing that.

I wish everyone only had frags and a magnum.

They need preset loadouts for certain gametypes that could save vehicles.

A normally warthog is so useless now that its not even funny.

What happened to vehicle gameplay. Halo was one of the only games that balanced
vehicles perfectly in their gameplay. Now its just horrible to even get in a
vehicle.

What do you guys think? Do you like vehicles being useless or do you agree with
me?

first bump. What do you guys thinK

In order of what I highlighted.

2 Sticks don’t kill a Wraith. They certainly damage it plenty, but they don’t kill a Wraith.

Agreed on basic Warthog being pretty useless. In Halo 3 a Warthog and gunner could be a serious pain. Blame Reach for paper-mache vehicles.

And…I disagree about vehicles being useless. If that were the case, I would not be able to go on a Killing Frenzy in Dominion just about every time I have a Wraith. Honestly, it seems like the only way I get taken out is by slowly being damaged over time or multiple enemies swarming me at once. Sometimes both.

Loadouts aren’t the problem. Vehicles have been underpowered since Halo:Reach. Bungie made some unnecessary changes to vehicles that made them much less effective than Halo 3.

If they just brought back the Halo 3 vehicles, they would be perfectly balanced with Custom Loadouts and even Personal Ordnance. Of that, I am certain.

I think the bigger issue is the way the plasma pistol interacts with vehicles. In past games, a plasma pistol overcharge would disable a vehicle’s movement but leave it’s primary weapon system up(with the exception of the Wraith). Now you can’t aim or shoot when disabled, leaving you completely defenseless. It’s hard to justify taking the plasma pistol out of loadout options or nerfing it cause of the wheelman tactical pakage, but it’s it’s unlocked at level 60 at the earliest, so until then, you’re kinda forced to deal with it. That combined with all the DMRs/LRs, power weapons, and sticky grenades, are what make vehicles difficult to use(but certainly NOT useless).

Load outs are a problem. For reasons OP mentioned. Any sensible player spawns with a PP and plasma grenades when vehicles will be in the match. Add to that some active camo and dealing with any vehicle is all too easy. Huge over sight by 343i.

Load outs should never have been put into Halo. They over simplify the game. Load outs and the removal of set weapon spawns is the number 1/2 reasons for my boredom with Halo4. The game is repetitive and predictable.

I have had decent luck in vehicles thus far but I do notice that when two or three guys team up on a tank, mantis, or wraith they die incredibly quickly due to the ordinance (not a bad thing and that makes the ordinance work as intended). Here is just a few opinions on the vehicles.

Tank/Wraith: The tank seems to suffer heavily in its position as it is attacked from both sides. When the blues have a gauss hog active the tank is toast pretty quick with its lower maneuverability and slower fire rate. On vortex I don’t see the wraith alive longer than 10 seconds before it is blown up one way or another.

Banshee: Take off an expect to die to DMRs and BRs in a matter of seconds. One exile it truly suffers instantaneous death because it doesn’t have much space to maneuver in say for around blue base.

Ghost: This almost seems like the most devastating vehicle on the field at any given time. I can count how many times I have been run over by a ghost. It has high maneuverability and speed allowing for quick getaways when getting too damaged.

Mongoose: Only annoying thing here is when they speed across the map and sneak into our base and steal our vehicles.

Mantis: When defended by a team it can be a real threat but alone against a couple players with power weapons or plasma grenades and it is disposed of quickly.

Warthog: The gauss is quite a threat with the fast fire rate and speed but the chaingun is so easily disposed of by enemies that I see people charge in with them just to splatter people, or at least attempt to.

Overall it seems like light vehicles are threatening whereas the heavy vehicles are but a minor threat unless heavily defended by other vehicles or people with power weapons and often there isn’t enough teamwork to fill that criteria. I see mantises left at the bases for a long time because they are so quickly dispatched in the mid-late game when ordinance drops are plentiful.

I’m not saying change or remove anything. These are just a few opinions on the vehicles.

I should have describe the wraith part a bit more.

2 plasma grenades shouldnt kill the drive at any given time when
one person can just plasma your tank and then throw 2 stickies. Makes the
wraith very useless at times when the opposing team is PP yoinks.

Also you getting killing frenzy’s in dominion was based on who you faced and
your team. You must not have been facing many noobs who use PP every chance that
they can. Also your team must have been someone what ok to keep you from being approached.

Dominion itself makes vehicles pointless when everyone gets rockets, lasers, sticky dets and spawn with PP. So im just going to say you had some lucky matches.

funny, I thought pp was UNDERpowerred, although that’s only because you can’t kill any non vehicles with it. I think the warthog is a little weak, but wraith is not

I think pp is to weak, because it is so hard to kill any non vehicles, though I guess the emp makes up for that. warthog is to weak (thanks reach), wraith is not

sorry, didn’t mean to double post.

Ya, people don’t even get in the mantis anymore. It’s pointless. You just die instantly.

I’ve actually found the vehicles to be fairly balanced in the game. With a good driver and gunner, i’ve seen a warthog do quite a bit of damage to the opposing team. You just need to always be wary of what the other team players could have and learn to adapt to that

With people spawning with the PP often times vehicles are stunned and put out of commission and the driver and passengers killed in a matter of moments after setting off on their ill fated adventure. I am not saying the PP is overpowered, under powered or anything. However slow moving vehicles like the mantis, tank, and wraith, get destroyed very quickly when the PP is heavily used in a match. The warthogs are basically cannon fodder for the enemy team with the plasma grenades and plasma pistol unless you have the gauss or rocket hog. chaingun gets killed in a matter of moments. Stun a ghost and it is toast.

I think the only thing that needs changing about vehicles is their resistance to load out weapons (Banshee shouldn’t have to die in 2 seconds because of the DMR and BR)and their resistance to the PP. I think to balance the PP overcharge on vehicles would be to reduce the stun time. I see people with a fair amount of distance between my vehicle and them close the gap before I can do anything. My only option is get out but by then I have already been blown to bits by the rest of the team. To balance loadout weapons against vehicles I think heavy vehicles like the tank, wraith, and mantis should be immune or extremely resistant to damage from anything other than the ordinance drops. Maybe even immune to the stun of the PP since they can’t really dodge it which makes heavy vehicles almost useless when the PP is around. The warthog could use either a heavy health buff or damage resistance buff. The banshee needs an extreme armor buff so that it isn’t killed seconds after take off. Why use the banshee when you can better use your life. Destroying your own banshee is better in the mid-late game than giving the enemy a free kill. Vehicles aren’t useless by any means, but they sure haven’t been too much of a threat since Halo 3, that is about the only thing that was better in Halo 3.
