It is clear from the Halo Reach concept art
LMG in the hands of a spartan
That at one point Bungie did consider having an LMG implemented into Reach.
Now, i would like to discuss whether or not this weapon could work or not in the future as a potential power weapon.
First and foremost, the turret would need beefing up a bit, but with all the drawbacks still eg. 3rd person, slowed movement large reticule ect… or be more heavily focused on anti vehicle measures, to stop the LMG being redundant.
The LMG could have something similar to this:
- 50 bullets in a clip
reload speed similar to a rocket launcher or 5-6 seconds
direct hit= 15 bullets to kill
fire speed= 4 bullets a second
This would be used in first person, and would effectively be the beefed up automatic weapon the UNSC have been missing, and would provide an interesting take on power weapons.
What do you guys think of this gun?
Maybe we’ll get that LMG in Halo 5. Hopefully.
And OP, you can shorten your links by using the ‘hyperlink’ function when you type up a post. It on the toolbar with all the other stuff.

Thanks there, and yes, i would love it to be a weapon. It just looks so awesome!
Just give us the CE Assault Rifle, with heavy recoil added to balance out the 900rpm rate of fire. No bloom, and a 45-60 round magazine.
Also make it look like the Reach concept art. Because it looks really cool.
No thanks. Halo has always been more about precision weapons and less about pray and spray (reason #1 why H2 was the best because no silly AR).
Aw man, look at how MLGPR0 I sound.
But yeah, that’s how I feel. I can’t help but feel that ANYONE who likes any sort of automatic weapon only wants it because they find precision guns too hard to use.
That weapon looks awesome. It would be awesome. I can imagine how great it’d be in custom games.
Someone has mention this before. Not going to happen.
Those Spartans and how they look alone puts Reach’s Spartans to shame. That being said, a lot of the time, it’s gets up to the drawing-board and then trashed for some reason.
I could see the LMG being a good weapon, if only for a fair time. Give it drum-magazine or eighty or ninety rounds and bullet-spread up to the assault-rifle’s range. If ti’s to remain like CE’s assault-rifle, then it would be good. Only two drum-magazines as a set standard.
Should it be implemented? No, because that just does not fit the weapon sand-box that’s Halo.
I would love to see an actual LMG weapon in the Halo Sandbox. However, the LMG shouldn’t be a power-weapon, unless you consider it of just having a lot of ammo in the chamber. I know it probably won’t be in Halo 4, but if they could add it in future titles, they could also return the SMG.
With no actual first-person LMG for a weapon, we will have to just consider the Turrets being the LMGs as of now of the game.

Not necessarily. I’m pretty good with precision weapons (good Halo player, not great or pro) and I would desire a 60-round AR like in Halo: CE. While it seems funny every time I mention this, the first impression people get is “I don’t need 60 rounds to kill someone”. And while I agree that I don’t need it, I think it allows an extension of beefing up the AR for additional kills when the opportunity arises. E.g. (without 60-rounds scenario) getting a kill with an AR and then having to reload right when another opposing player appears. And with more rounds in the AR=extended chance to kill more in the moment. In some ways you could think of it as an advantage not only for battling out players but also as an extension to be able to kill another player with the AR.
In theory, I think that automatic weapons will always have a randomness sense (spray and pray) to them because they are automatic weapons, not precision weapons. However, that doesn’t derive them of skill. You can still take someone out from mid-range if you pace shots (quite difficult). In addition, the logic with randomness implemented into precision weapons (like the DMR in Reach) clearly doesn’t work but it will be appropriate for automatic weapons. See the difference?
While I agree that Halo multiplayer seems to have more emphasis around precision weapons (hence one reason why many people refer to Halo games requiring skill), I disagree with you that anyone who likes automatic weapons want to use them solely on the concept that they cannot handle precision weapons with skill. In some instances, it actually seems to take more skill in using automatic weapons (e.g. mid-range fights limited to automatic weapons).
I don’t know, I’d like to see an LMG in Halo, but balanced in such a way that it can be a loadout weapon.
> I want an LMG so bad!!!
This.
That concept art is so cool… I love both that LMG and that helmet…

OMG LOL!
We need to clarify our weapons:
We have an LMG in the form of turrets.
We had an AR with 60 rounds in it, more than the proposed 50 of an LMG.
Having a weapon that sprays lots of bullets but does little damage ISN’T a powerweapon, which seems to be the proposed LMG variant to be inline the concept art.
The Halo AR is really a BR but improperly named by today’s standards because in the future, the SMG’s are actually PDR’s (personal defense rifles).
Do I want an AR with lots of rounds like the past? I think I’ll have to wait till I find out how the SR works, is it an SMG-type, PDR-type (personal defense rifle) or an LMG with too much spread?
> No thanks. Halo has always been more about precision weapons and less about pray and spray (reason #1 why H2 was the best because no silly AR).
Right because using those low DpH but high RoF with lots of ammo SMG’s and PR’s didn’t involve “spray and pray” tactics.
An LMG could work in Halo… but it’s purpose is to providing support, and would be more suitable in Big Team Slayer/Objective gametypes as a loadout weapon.
I could finally make a Support loadout with this, which I couldn’t do in Reach unfortunately…
It should be able to tear up vehicles.
> It should be able to tear up vehicles.
So do existing power weapons.
