I don’t know if anybody has really posted about this but i haven’t really seen anything and i have been regularly visiting these forums for a few months now.
I think it is safe to say that Living Dead will be back in Halo 4 since it is usually one of the most populous playlist in Reach (plus a fan favorite in Halo 2 and Halo 3). I have always had a lot of fun in Living Dead, but I feel like they could do so much more with it.
What sort of ideas do you guys have for Living Dead in Halo 4?
Some of mine are:
-Make living dead feel more zombie like. I think many of us hoped for Flood to be a part of living dead (i.e. you get infected and play as a flood combat form) but that probably wont happen now. But what do you guys think of specific maps made for living dead? Halo reach (basically) did it with invasion, so it could be possible? Make scarier looking maps?
-They could add objectives too. If any of you guys played custom living dead, you’ll remember some awesome maps where the humans had to keep moving through a labyrinth and hold out at the end. Those were so much fun and 343 could definitely expand on that.
-Variety of weapons/game-types. Seriously, shotguns and magnums gets old after a while.
-I remember someone suggesting on these forums before that scoring should be based half on the time you survived + the amount of kills you get. I think that would be a much better system, more incentive/reward for staying alive.
-Finally i think they could encourage humans to stick together and make a stand(at least in some gametypes). I noticed that every time they update the zombie maps they make it increasingly harder for humans to hold up in one spot and fight. I partly get why they do this (its annoying being a zombie) but it is also really enjoyable to be the humans fighting off waves of zombies. And with Instant re-spawn times, the zombies can just keep coming and coming and (possibly) eventually win.
I would also like to note that if zombies were like what i suggested, that living dead shouldn’t affect your K/D ratio (if k/d ratio will even be in halo 4), it should just be social fun. Other wise humans would have like +30 k/d and the zombies would have -30 k/d. I don’t know about you guys but i wouldn’t want to keep rushing the humans if it was gradually degrading my rank/K/d.
These are just some ideas, i’m open to criticism or suggestions.
Make it a lot scarier. One idea I had was that zombies would be the flood, and players could choose between the different types of flood, fast, strong, shooter etc. (sounds like L4D, that’s because it is like L4D). Then one zombie could be the “gravemind” and he could look over the map and select spawn points for the zombies, and the humans have to kill him.
I agree with gaining points the longer you’re alive as a human. I think having capture points or ‘zombie hill points’ that we can set to spawn in numbered sequence would be great as well. Imagine, the humans must move together from one location to another location, along a specified path to pick up health packs, get more ammo, etc. Right now, they spawn in random order and there’s no incentive to staying alive as a human, because you can also score as a zombie.
Along with the above suggested in the OP, I don’t want it to be a permanent playlist again, sure it was fun, but it never deserved to be permanent, bringing it back as a sort of Bonus EXP weekend would be good again.
actually have maps edited with forge to work with infection.
Reach failed at this and I like the Halo 3 style maps, involving the humans defending an area and the zombies attacking.
I hope infection is like it was in Halo 3, and not like Halo:Reach.
The infection in Reach was nothing compared to 300% speed on Sandtrap. Personally, I don’t think infection should be in the “competitive” list anyways, and should be one in the community section that does not count to your K/D or W/L.
Make Living Dead not completely terrible. Seriously, I’ve played far better Infection games in customs only to play the Halo 3/Reach LD playlist and wonder where things went so wrong.
LD would be better if it stepped out of the stereotypical infection style rut it has gotten itself into. More linear based, story driven Infection games please.
I want a fair selection process. When you run the risk of being zombie three times in a row despite there being eight other people, there is a problem. Basically my system woudl work like this. There are three rounds and nine players in total, keep that in mind.
Player 1
Player 2
Player 3
Player 4
Player 5
Player 6
Player 7
Player 8
Player 9
Three players start the round as zombies. After that, the first three people are taken out of the selection process, leaving…
Player 4
Player 5
Player 6
Player 7
Player 8
Player 9
Of those six, three more will be picked and then taken out of the zombie selection queue and so on for the next round. This way every gets to be human and zombie. Now I haven’t worked out what happens when people quit, but give me some time.
I personally agree with the part about the K/D. I think they should take that off in living dead. I was kinda new when i started playing LD and that TOTALLY screwed up my K/D. I stopped playing LD and did some team slayer and etc. I think that they should make it a bit more objective based.
Since I seriously doubt that infected players will ever have the look of a flood combat form, they could at least give the zombies no weapon but still give them the option to melee.
That’s all I want. Of all things I have ever asked for in Halo 4, ignore them all, and give me Flood Combat Forms when infected in Infection. Do that, and I will be very, very happy. Tell me the people in 343i that made it happen, and I will kiss them. Tongue may or may not be involved.
Give zombies a really weak projectile weapon to harass camping survivors at range. Probably the PP to simulate some sort of acid (it’s green) or a Spiker for the Flood ranged form. The zombies still have no shields, and survivor shields recharge, so it wouldn’t be gamr breaking. Also, Jetpack, PV and Thruster zombies and no radar.
