Live service

There is a lot of talk that the game will be a live service game like destiny. If this is true we could have infinite for a long time. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this and do you think it could work for Halo?

This is probably an unpopular opinion but as long at the stories are well written and they find ways to keep gameplay fresh, I’d be cool with it.

I admit that this is probably the part about Infinite that rubs me the wrong way. Turning Halo into a somewhat episodic and DLC-driven game for the next 10 years instead of making Halo 7 seems more like a bad thing than a good thing.
And what does this mean for Xbox One? Will the Xbox One version be supported with those expansions for 10 years? Will Halo and the Series X be held beck this entire generation because of the original Xbox One?

I’m not sure if this will be a live service game in the same way that Destiny is. When I read that I took it more as them saying they will support the game with plenty of multiplayer updates. Similar to how they did Halo 5 but this time probably a lot more frequently and with more content. I’m not sure how well smaller story additions would work with a game like Halo, unless they have something similar to Spartan Ops? I don’t know but I always thought they meant they’d continually be updating the multiplayer suite for years to come.

Remember halo 4’s Spartan ops and how they gradually released the episodes/missions well the first season was a hit and then I never heard anyone mention any other season again. There wasn’t any hype and the only people that talked about it was lore people. If it’s going to be anything like Spartan ops I don’t see it lasting like other live service games.

as long as its not as bad Halo Spartan Ops where the story lead absolute nowhere & reused soo much content sure why not.

I’d be fine with that, but will the game be held back by Xbox one will they support it for years to come as well. They are pretty vague on all answers so far.

And then they killed the entire story in the first few minutes of halo 5

Nah wasn’t even that they had comic series dedicated to that which lead absolutely nowhere with no consequences for the lore or timeline then they brought the main Villain back in Halo 5 to be killed instantly.

Like i say as long as they don’t do that sure why not I’m game.

I feel like at a certain point they’ll drop Xbox One. Or maybe that version will just have less features. Curious to hear how that’ll work considering cross platform play.

Uhh, no. You ever play OG Destiny? While they supported the 360/ps3 versions for years, by the time the final expansion, Rise of Iron, they had dropped support for the old consoles and the dlc only came to the xbox one/ps4. I’m sure if we get this system this is exactly what will end up happening if the game lasts that long, which hopefully it does. Plus I’m pretty sure xbox said they’d be supporting the xbox one for the next couple years, not forever.

when destiny was announced the whole Marketing team behind it sayed things like the game would last over a decade plus it would be a watershed in the industry, a legendary game played by all the gamers across the world similar to warcraft,LOL,DOTA etc.
Today we all know how that ended and how the first game treated his player base with a kinda pay to win model, in a $60 game
Great game or not, halo should not follow the steps of his own clone.

As much as I liked destiny, halo has lost its Identity and if it continues to follow trends it will loose even more of its player base. This game is it’s last chance to show that halo is unique and still fun to this day.

Sounds like 343’s last Halo game. Fingers crossed. Rejoice!

The answer to that is no. They’ll release like 2 expansions over the course of like 2 years, and once they get tired of toying around and want to really, REALLY actually sell some series X consoles then they’ll make the 3rd expansion exclusive to the newest console after having waited just long enough that you probably can’t get a free upgrade to the newest console edition of the game so that way you have to buy the game a second time as well as the new console.

If they want to maintain Infinite while some other studio(s) make spinoff titles then I suppose it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, but Halo is a totally different beast than Destiny and I’m sure everyone that has been a fan for at least the past few years knows that a current Halo title’s lifespan just simply doesn’t extend to 5 years no matter how many new maps you put in rotation or how many double XP weekends you push out. A new platform for a Halo is necessary every 2-3 years to prevent stagnation in my opinion, and I hope that 343 doesn’t squander the potential of their brand new engine by refusing to make more than 1 title every half decade.

I also hope infinite isn’t the only halo fps for the next 5-6 years. It was okay with me this time with halo 5 because I really enjoyed going back to old halo’s. I realistically only played halo 5 for fours years before I just couldn’t stand the game anyone. It just felt too repetitive.

Live Service = Lower quality product.

Example being Halo: Infinite gameplay and the poor state of the visuals and streaming in of ingame assets (object/texture pop in).

Franchises can get destroyed and lose their identity by going along the live service route. If they really expect a game that looks worse then current gen open world games to last 10 years. They must be smoking some strong narcotics.

Let’s just hope 343 doesn’t make halo a live service game, but the fact Microsoft is giving it away on gamepass does worry me.

Yeah it’s a really bold move. It feels like everything or nothing at this point. because it could bring in more players and money, or do the opposite by having people pay less and hate it, never to play it again if it flops.
