E3 UPDATE #2
So Marlowe (the Spartan lead of Ridley Scott’s project Halo: Nightfall), at some point, becomes Agent Locke, a main character in Halo 5: Guardians (the second Soartan on Halo 5’s poster). This is implied/confirmed in the linked video where Franky says he is called Locke “in this time frame” (Halo 5’s) and also is the main character of Halo Nightfall (and we already know Marlowe is the main character in the digital feature). Maybe he is forced to change his name after joining ONI?

E3 UPDATE #1:
Ridley Scott’s digital feature is officially called “Halo: Nightfall” and will supossedly tie right into Halo 5: Guardians. The feature will come alongside the Halo: Master Chief collection. Expect more tidbits of news throughout E3, and potentially a full-blown reveal at Comic Con.
In the E3 video, we can see some screenshots from the feature (which is well into production in Iceland and Belfast). I will link it when it gets uploaded to YouTube.
UPDATE: MAY 15TH 2014
The first casting for Ridley Scott’s Live Action Halo “digital feature” has been revealed! Mike Colter.
“Colter, best known for his roles in The Good Wife and The Following, will play Marlowe, a rising star in a futuristic army with reservations about those in command. Reps for Colter haven’t responded to the report.”
ORIGINAL POST
Microsoft just held a media briefing about everything Xbox TV and revealed a surprisingly small amount of info. But info is info, and we a thirsty! So there you have it. We have two projects: the new “digital feature” produced by Ridely Scott’s team (the creator of alien) which is coming later this year and the big looming shadow of the Halo TV show produced by the one and only Steven Spielberg.
So, what did they say about the projects?
HALO DIGITAL FEATURE
> 343 Industries and Scott Free Productions are creating a “Halo” digital feature to be released later this year. The project will be executive produced by Ridley Scott and Scott Free TV President, David Zucker. Sergio Mimica-Gezzan (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Pillars of the Earth,” “Heroes”) will direct.
On top of this official quote, there are a few more details: the project is going into production this coming week, it will shoot in Iceland and Ireland (like Game of Thrones, so expect a lot of green), and it isn’t clear whether it will come in episodic form or as a full movie deal. It is expected to launch alongside Halo Xbox One by the end of this year, and we will likely hear more about it (and perhaps even see it) at E3. When asked whether the show would compare to “Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn”, the reporters were told that yes, it will, but with a much larger budget and much greater production values.
What we know about this digital feature’s plot is that it will follow the story of a Spartan that ISN’T Master Chief Jon 117. Spartan II? III? IV? We do not know.
HALO TV
> The “Halo” television series is a groundbreaking original series based on the award-winning “Halo” franchise. Award-winning filmmaker, director and producer Steven Spielberg will executive produce the live-action TV series, created in partnership with 343 Industries and Amblin Television.
Little is known beyond this quote except this: the show is still far, far away. Microsoft is still putting the team together (which means showrunners, writers and such) and production won’t begin any time soon. It’s safe to assume that this show won’t be out in the air until at the very least the second half of 2015, but there is big promise here: a show with a budget comparable to Game of Thrones, and Halo done justice under the helm of Steven Spielberg. There is even a chance that Neil Blomkamp (the director of the canceled Halo movie) will helm the pilot, but that is mostly speculation.
The one thing we know about the plot of this one, according to the now-head-of-Xbox Phil Spencer: it will not just be “filler”. This implies that it will be relevant to the ongoing Halo story, and could potentially tie into the main series Halo games. The first thing that comes to mind is some sort of continuation to the Spartan Ops story, but that is (again) merely speculation.
TO SUM THINGS UP
As some of us feared, the Halo TV Show is still far away, but at least we have this digital feature coming up. From all the recent news, it seems we can gather that this Ridley Scott Halo feature is being set up as a little glimpse at what will eventually be the big Halo TV series- with a sizeable budget. What does this mean? E3 will be awesome, and we are finally getting what we always wanted and more- Halo done right in Live Action.
