Literally sick of the connection in this game

I have a 50mb, fiber optic connection, in the middle of the US. I’ve played for 4 hours tonight and nearly EVERY SINGLE GAME has been yellow, laggy, and a few unplayable. This is completely unacceptable. Halo has NEVER been like this.

Please do something otherwise trying to play this game is completely pointless.

Literally sick? Are you feeling okay?

Nah, I totally agree. I know it’s not my connection when I have laggy games.

Haha just so frustrated. Me and my buddies play on Saturday nights and the entire night has just been awful. I’m not kidding when I say that maybe two of the games have been clean. I think my Dreamcast played smoother than this on 56K.

Your not alone.

Does this:

more or less sum up your marvellous H4 multiplayer game experience?

I quit playing H4 on June 6th because of Lag and switched back to Halo Reach. In Reach, I turned on the “Good Connection” filter and 5% of my BTB games (with 500 to 1,500 players in the BTB Lobby) are EVER as lagged as H4 is.

In H4 70% of my 1400 war games were lagged by 0.5+ seconds and Co-Op Spartan ops or Campaign are even worse.

They could address most of the lag , if they want to too:

but that would take 343i away from them fiddling with weapons tuning, rotating maps between Exile and Ragnorak every week, making new armour we can’t wear and abilities we can’t use in Spartan Ops.

All we can do now is wait for dedicated servers in Halo 5.

I’m fed up with it too,

Reach is much much faster and more fun too imo!!

Oh good. I thought it was my connection that was lagging.

I have 1000 mb/s (gigabit) both up and down, a pretty new xbox and I almost never get host. Instead I get lag, a ton of it.It is frustrating.

That’s because of “Host History” in H4 versus how previous Halos (and other multiplayer games) select the best host connection for each match. The more you play in H4, the less likely you are ever going to be host.

Read all about a real world example of this here:

And the only way the 300,000 servers for XB1 will make a difference is if:

  1. They are in multiple server farms spread around the world. If MS builds one big farm in the USA, then people outside of North America may as well not bother. They would be better off having “local Only”

  2. They are dedicated to game play, as no where does MS say the servers are for games. MS has big designs on being the set top media box in your living room where you subscribe or buy media to watch on Xbox One - so the servers have to handle media transfers. There is also talk about doing some of the game rendering on the severs and downloading it to your Xbox too. So will any of them be dedicated to online gaming or is it a smorgasbord?

The only thing that adequate host servers will solve is no Host Advantage in P2P - which is a major issue for competitive play today.

And yes, I’m very angry with how shoddy 343 is as a game developer and how they have mishandled almost every aspect of H4.

I had amazing games two days ago. No lag.

Today, it’s as if some idiot is whacking my connection with a baseball bat repeatedly. Yet I’m sure it’s not my connection. The next Halo is hopefully going to be a much better experience.

Welcome to yet another joy of a low population. As it drops further it will only get worse.

I know that feeling bro, before i quit halo 4 i used to have serious lag issues half of my games, like spending half of my games watching a black screen, inmortal kids, etc, kids teleporting etc.

And no, its not my connection, i never had lagg issues like these in the previous titles.

The sad part is that 343 doesnt seem to care at all, all i hear from them are excuses, we cant add in games rankings becuase of url limitations, we cant fix this because we dont have enough resources, we cant fix that because we dont have enough people and time, we cant fix the skins that you guys bought and cant use in spartan ops because its too risky, do you guys get paid to make excuses or to develop a game and give proper support to it?

Its really sad, my favorite franchise is dying slowly, and 343 doesnt seem to give a -Yoink- about halo 4 or the fanbase.

Maybe its time to move on and forget the game that brought so much happiness into my life.

Not all about download speed. Maybe your upload is horrible. Mine is only 30mb down and 7 up and I am fine 99% of the time.

1000mb down and up? no lol unless you literally play inside of Microsoft on their crazy internet, not going to happen on a private home network.

maybe 1000kb and in that case its 1mb which is why you lag.

1GB up is absolutely outrageous if true. how much does that set you back $10M a year?

The spartan ops and campaign lag cant be fixed. it basically boils down to the time it takes to keep the AI in the game synchronized to all the xboxs.

The easier fix and I dont know why they wont fix it is host selection. Atleast somebody could come out and say whats going on.

I hope this isnt considered bashing 343, but there still seems to be a huge lack of communication from 343 in the forums.

I am not kidding. In Sweden we have extreme internet speeds and gigabit is rather common. I pay around 50 dollars/month for gigabit (up and down). I hope some other swedes here can confirm. I think at least 1 million people have access to 500 mb/s. Ffs, my mobile internet is 50 mb/s. Gigabit was launced 2010 in Sweden. Just Google it.

My supplier Ownit:

http://ownit.se/privat/bredband.aspx

Translated a quote from their web site:

"With broadband from Ownit you get genuine fiber broadband with a symmetrical speed of 10, 100 or 1000 Mbit / s! Obviously, with the option of both wired and wireless connection.
Ownit backbone network consists of optical fiber, giving you the quickest and most future-proof fiber broadband."

And a speedtest:

Holy Crap - that’s very impressive.

Unfortunately due to incompetence and indifference at 343i (maybe that’s what the “i” stand for in 343i), you don’t get what you pay for. H4 host selection methodology is a bad joke and even though you likely should be host, you won’t get it because your too high a SR (130) and have a host history with too many games.

If you play Halo Reach, you will - but not with H4.

Mine is ADSL, single user, iTV off, 50 mbps down, 11 mbps up, ping time of 7 ms to server, less than 70 ms measured ping across North America and I am lagged in H4 by 0.5+ seconds 70% of the time.

If I play Halo Reach (same connection) only 5% of my Reach games ever get as lagged as H4 does most of the time.

Well you were not the host in those games, Halo 5 will have dedicated servers so it can’t be fixed for 4.
