I often listen to music whenever I can’t play with friends, and for some reason I play a lot better when I do. The songs I tend to beat with my headsets are the three songs from the weapon trailers for this game.
The real question here is: does listening to your favorite song improve how you play?
Well, I did just pick up the Halo 4 OST and downloaded the tracks onto my hard drive… had quite a few good games in Crimson DLC and Regicide all while listening to the works of Neil Davidge. Lots of CTF games today, and I think I only lost 1, but that was JIP so…
I bought the OSTs for all of the Halo games, since I found in Halo 3 that it was more fun playing multiplayer and listening to the soundtrack at the same time.
Personally I can’t listen to music and play video games, I get too distracted. I can listen to the game noises and all that but actual music makes me start to hum/sing along and I lose all focus on the game. Not really sure why because I can listen to music and multi task with just about everything else but just not video games.
It really gets me in the mood.
Bands like Metallica, Megadeth, and Disturbed make perfect music for killing people. (I’m talking about virtual people :).
But although music helps me sometimes (when I’m in a rage), I find that chewing gum really helps me focus and I tend to have more positive matches when I am chewing gum.
I do the same thing! My favorites are Five finger death punch and black veil brides!
Though sometimes I lose more listening to music, but that’s okay
I don’t really think it improves how I play but it definitely makes it more enjoyable. I listen to a lot of upbeat pop-punk music so it puts me in a good mood while I relax.
Bands like Blink 182, Patent Pending, Bowling For soup, A Day To Remember, MxPx, NOFX, The Wonder Years and New Found Glory always put me in a good mood. A Day To Remember’s screaming parts are brilliant. Puts you in the mood for a rampage.
Well, during a War Games match, i leave music silent, b/c i pay close attention to players movements and shot locations.
However, when i play or I should say “played” SpOps, i always turned on Halo: 3 ODST Soundtrack, so i can ignore, Palmer’s “eggheads, hingeheads, etc.” remarks. Plus Millar and Dalton.

I HATE when players are playing music when the game is going on. I report, avoid, and mute every player that does this. It’s annoying and incredibly rude. I can’t tell you how many times I have to mute multiple people on my team because of blaring music. I don’t wanna hear it. If you want to listen to music, turn your Xbox off and listen to it, have some courtesy for other players.
I only approve of this in single player modes being campaign or spartan ops. Never bring it into multiplayer. I can’t believe how many people come into my lobby blaring screechy, loud, unrecognizable, music and expect the team to be able to communicate when some -Yoink- has an open mic.
I listen to every Halo OST while playing matchmaking, with headphones of course

I agree, i remember playing a match and it was all girls. One of them decided to put Justin Bieber on so everyone can hear. I ended up blasting Halo Theme Mjolnir Mix which she eventually quit. I know exactly wat you mean.
i turn on music and then mute it, just so i don’t have to listen to the wailing on the title screen.

Yeah. Same here.
There was always something playing during my CE LAN days in college. The music has been less frequent since then, but I like to hear tunes occasionally. Late night while the missus sleeps I’ll plug in some headphones and see what’s good on pandora. Sometimes it works, other times I just want to hear the carnage of the game.
I’m one of very few, who play with music on instead of game sound, somewhat due to not being capable of running surround sound through the Xbox on my current 5.1 speakers.

Though it isn’t necessary for me, I seem to do well enough without it. I suppose that listening to music with a fast beat, say… Drum & Bass for example, does increase my overall performance. A can of V Energy also helps to boost my alertness, reflexes etc.
XD

What he said. I’m usuaally listening to DnB or any music a fast beat. It really help with the pace of the game, or anything with a slow build up.
Hell, I even listen to the combat score of Mass Effect 2 and it helps a ton! (Links below)
My personal favourite
Overlord Combat Theme (From Mass Effect 2 DLC)
Sometimes I will listen to Halo 2 music and play.
Makes me do good and brings back good memories
Who listens to music in multiplayer, honestly? Are you the terrible people I keep getting paired with? No wonder Halo 4 players are so bad. If you’re not listening to the game noises, you’ll have no idea what’s going on. Also if you’re listening to music, it means you have no headset on and you don’t communicate with your team mates.
I will never, ever play Halo without my Turtle Beach surround sound headset. I can tell what direction gunfire and footsteps are coming from, and I have my team mate’s backs immediately.
I got a Rampage on Longbow the other day listening to Queens Of The Stone Age. So maybe?
Game noises are important for awareness, so no.
