List What You Don't Want in Halo 5

Campaign
Make it more similar to the old games, very open-world’y, no insta kill zones (like that super dangerous knee-high water when escorting the Mammoth).

Throw in lotsa random stuff for us to find, good easter eggs that make you laugh and say WTF. And make it longer. Oh and more organic enemies, promethians blew -Yoink-, stupidly hard with their tele away\at you and insane shields and armour on legendary.

Matchmaking
Personally I feel custom loadouts were handled terribly bad, far worse than I could have imagined. Removing base player traits just to make mods useful was a big no-no for me. The gameplay doesn’t feel anything like what Halo used to be because of that.

So, remove or seriously revamp mods, alter loadouts, (no more stickies/ammo/plasma pistol on demand). Fix the objectives so they are fun again, (the objectives like oddball and various others used to have great populations, now it has super low pops). Give us visable ranks that cycle back to 1 every 3 or 6 months, give us leaderboards and super good clan/group support.

Make the map season pass super cheap (talking like $5 here, they would make money based on sales rather than how expensive it is, I tweeted Josh Holmes this and he actually replied with “interesting”. It’s not an absurd idea, they still would make loads of money and it’s priced so cheap they could make DLC required in many playlists and people will say “Well it’s only $5…”.

Lastly, the maps, they are better than what Reach were, but they still need to be better IMO, best way to do this is make a few remakes of the best maps in the past, but more importantly, give us more maps in the beginning, they can get old fast and DLC does nothing when you almost never play them because of no restrictions on playlists

Another way to fix this is give us super good forge editors on the next gen consoles, we can do half the work for you… some times all of it!

So, what don’t you want in the next Halo and why? Also tell me some of the things you want to stay/added!

i dont remember halo ever having an open world feeling. it was always linear with a couple of times you could take a different path but i think that was unintentional and didn’t make the game better.

odst is the only one i would say had anything that could be confused as an open world, and it played vastly different then any other halo game.

Some ideas for loadouts, abilities, etc.

Loadouts

  1. Primaries
    >Designated Marksman Rifle
    >Battle Rifle
    >Assault Carbine*

  2. Armor Abilities
    >Thruster
    >Medkit*
    >Spotter*
    >TBD
    >TBD

  3. Perks (Single Slot)
    >Increased Radar Radius.
    >Ability to view Radar while scoped.
    >Faster Armor Ability Regeneration
    >Slightly faster Shield Regeneration.
    >TBD
    >TBD

The Assault Carbine would have a similar appearance to the Assault Rifle. It would be a nine shot kill with a significantly slower rate of fire, would have moderately accurate full-auto fire, and would have high accuracy if the trigger was tapped instead of held. Headshot capable.

TL:DR the Assault Carbine is essentially the Covenant Carbine with an optional automatic mode of fire, giving players a useful, deeper and moderately skillful choice in automatic weaponry.

The Medkit would send out a single burst of energy that initiates the shield recharge of anyone around you. However, it does not continuously regenerate their shields, meaning it is only useful when out-of-combat. It is also incapable of healing yourself.

The Spotter would simply put a waypoint over enemies that you are aiming at, and transmit that information to your team. The waypoint would only last a few seconds to prevent knowing enemy locations at all times.

Alien weaponry would be found on the map only. Loadouts are purely UNSC. This fits canon better and allows for a more unique and powerful alien sandbox.

  1. Generic FPS: boring maps for small non-team promoting based games

  2. Limited armour customisation with too many variants: 100 different helmets/shoulders/torso.

  3. No UNSC aircraft

  4. Small Forge

  5. Bad customs

If you remember the mission “Halo” from CE I think it means something like that, I recently did the “How Pedestrian” achievement so that requires you to walk through the mission without a vehicle, and I really started to appreciate it for what it is

I like Loadouts but they need to be reworked, an example would be the primary weapon, you an choose what one you spawn with, but secondary and grenade are magnum and frag grenade

I have no problem with Campaign, however for MM, its only one simple thing:

Boltshot

I hope and pray that one weapon doesn’t appear in Halo 5.

The rest is fine. I’m sorry, but those against custom loadouts, I have to disagree. It not only gives us more custom options, but makes the game much interesting. Then again, i do feel it has to be fixed up a bit

A short campaign, seriously a 15 hour campaign would be amazing

> I like Loadouts but they need to be reworked, an example would be the primary weapon, you an choose what one you spawn with, but secondary and grenade are magnum and frag grenade

They could put some sort of restrictions on them like a point system. You would only have a limited amount of points to spend and everything in the loadout would cost a certain amount of points. F.E.A.R. 2 is an example.

Waypoints over flag carriers.

What I don’t want?

Halo 3 multiplayer map remakes - That game has such sub-par maps and is still playable so you can play the maps in the game they were made for. Their is no version of Halo 2 online and CEA came with a nice chunk of CE maps so Halo 2 maps are the only thing I’ll accept remade for the next Halo. Maybe PC maps too but I’d much rather see H2 maps remade if we get any…

Elites in MM - They were just too awkward in mp and killing them always felt like I was at some sort of advantage or disadvantage. I don’t know… I just hated the Elites.

Custom Loudouts - Specifically so people can’t have the vehicle killers off spawn. BTB absolutely sucks because of loadouts. I also miss the simplicity of everyone starting out even. I don’t mind trying to let the players play how they feel works for them but even when it comes down to it I even miss AR starts… I know I’m probably alone on that one.

Theirs tons more but I’m tired. I might update in the future if you’d like to see more of my complaints.

The inability for players to change via Custom Game options what (to me) seem like they should be allowed to be changed. Options concerning things such as the waypoint over flag carriers, Flagnum, Sprint, etc. I’m no game developer, so for all I know, implementing such options could be quite difficult. Yet, I can’t help but feel like the ability to change these settings should have existed from the very beginning of the game’s lifespan.

I like custom loadouts as an idea, but in actuality it seems to be more trouble than what it’s worth. It’s great to be able to no longer have to worry about starting with a certain weapon, but it seems to have upset the notion of Halo being a game with equal starts for everyone.

Linear campaign levels. Exploration is fun!

A short campaign. I feel like having more open-world campaign levels would improve this, but I love Halo for its extensive storyline. Finishing a campaign in a matter of just a few hours often leaves me feeling wanting. But don’t make it Mass Effect lengthy; that would be pushing it.

Hand-holding on-screen tips. I haven’t seen much of this in a Halo game, but I want it to remain that way. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s good to show players how to play, but if I already know how to play, JUST LET ME PLAY!

Lag. Yeah yeah, I know. But one can hope, right?

Sandtrap is god-tier.

Loadouts… Fine. Go back to reach style loadouts if you must but the love of the mantle do not let people spawn with different weapons. Worst idea in all of halo.

Any half decent player while pick the beast weapon for the job (what ever gun suits the map the best)
New players will pick whatever feels cozy regardless of the map/gametype he is about to enter.
The result will always be a one sided battle of sadsaddyness. It’s ugly and unfair to both persons. It’s unfair to let the new player get beat up on and unfair to the more experienced player to allow not only a bad match in the per game lobby but to allow that bad match to further handy cap themselves.

We shall call it… HALO 4

You know, if they keep sprint (hope they do) a larger scale sandtrap would be amazing

Okay I don’t want:
Killcams
Instant Respawn
Loadouts
Unbalanced gameplay
Terrible spawn
Terrible Forge
Terrible Custom Game options
support packages and crap
AAs
These all take Halo off the path of it’s core gameplay (excluding the Forge and CG stuff.)

While the games missions themselves always had a point A and point B, in Halo CE especially almost every single encounter had several ways to go about completing it. And in some cases, like the missions Halo (CE), Outskirts (including rooftops), Winter Contingency, or even New Alexandria, you did have a little open world to explore at some point in the mission.

Some Spartan Ops missions pull nonlinear play off pretty well once in a while, offering you a plethora of choices insted of just one or two. The first mission is an excellent example of that, giving you 4 vehicles and several power weapons to choose from.

Here’s what I don’t want to see:

  • Sprint (Replace it with a Dodge button, pretty much just like having Thrust.)
  • Armour Abilities
  • No Armour Mods
  • Stationary Death Camera
  • Instant Respawn
  • Power Weapons/Equipment in Personal Ordinance
  • “Random” Map Ordinance
  • Plasma Pistols and Boltshots in Loadouts (Unless they are nerfed for Dual Wield)
  • Choice of Precision or Automatic primary in Loadouts (Unless Dual Wield returns)
  • 2 Grenades off spawn. (I want there to be only 1 grenade when a player spawns)
  • The Storm Rifle. We already have the Plasma Rifle AND Repeater. Stick to those.
  • The Beam Rifle, It’s a sniper with an overheat… Might as well just have the sniper. Save that disc space and development time for a UNIQUE weapon.

Here’s what I DO want to see:

  • Revised Loadouts, either Precision Primary, Automatic (+ Magnum) Secondary. OR:
  • Dual Wield! All Sidearms are hip-sized dual wieldable and adequately nerfed/powered weapons including: Magnum (M6G-style), Pistol (M6C-style), SMG, Plasma Pistol, Plasma Rifle, Needler, Boltshot, (Spiker/Mauler?).
  • That Dodge Button. It would fit Halo’s combat mechanics and won’t ruin the gameplay or map design like sprint does.
  • Set time and location based map Ordinance. Allowing the weapons and power positions on the map to change over the course of the game without being the slightest bit random.
  • Personal Ordinance set as Loadout resupply, <- Primary Ammo, -> Secondary (Dual Wield/Ammo), V 2x Grenade Resupply.

I used the term “open world” as an example compared to other linear FPS’s.

You often have the choice to run it, drive it or find alternate routes, steal a banshee.

It’s left up to use to tackle most situations the way we want to.

I sometimes just avoid fighting altogether and speed through tough areas to the next area if it’s real tough.

I use the AR on ragnarok and get more kills than my entire team with it at times its all about playing to your advantage and preferred playing style which loadouts enable. A very good player would kill a less good player if both had BRs no doubt. One person has an advantage at range and the other in CQC and will play accordingly and it spices things up a bit instead of the generic and boring BR and DMR slayer which ruled before which got boring.

This makes the game even more skilled since you don’t have an all purpose weapon and have to play to unlock your advantage I mean no ones going to run into the middle of sandtrap if it were a map in halo 5 and try and snipe with it, they’d stick to CQC.

Most of the hate of loadouts goes out to the bad workings of the boltshot and having PG and PP as loadout options. Its fine otherwise and everyone likes customisation.
