Disclaimer: These ideas come from myself, friends, and other waypoint members and by no means represent the entire halo communities input.
1. Map designs
The symmetry of most of the maps are great. Being able to play a match red or blue and still have the same map layout is great. However; when you play on “Raid on Apex 7” blue team has several disadvantages. The first of which is the lack of cover when assaulting the Spire from their armory and second of which is the armory closest to blue team’s core is a giant toll gate to fight Tank Master Rok and Captian Hestro, by a toll I mean if red team controls that armor then blue team vehicles are significantly hindered to pass through where as this is not the case for Red team.
2. spawn locations
The spawning in both Warzone and Warzone Assault are fine with the exception of when the enemy is near the location of where you are spawning. If myself and my team are trying to defend an armory and we spawn nearest to our core then hopefully you can see our frustration of losing our armory because we spawned 10-20 seconds away from where we tried to spawn originally. Warzone Assault is a beast all on its own. The spawns of Warzone Assault are often exposed to the enemy and there are simply too few spawns for the amount of people dying. This often results in spawn killing to be a team strategy of defending/assaulting the garage/spire. Lastly, in Warzone Assault for the defenders make them spawn vehicles at their core. Spawning vehicles on Summit often results in a vehicle pile fest of defenders stalling for time by spam spawning vehicles and creates a strong disadvantage for blue team.
3. large vehicle "usefulness"
By no means am I saying the vehicles are useless in their own right. Tanks, Wraiths, Mantis can still get kills through their intended functions. However; the Warzone maps are filled with rocks, road blocks, cars, trees, building material that restrict that large vehicle freedom. Warzone maps are suppose to be bigger than Blood Gultch, yet my tank has to move in single file lanes and often can reverse if their is another vehicle behind. Warzone maps are suppose to be bigger Sandtrap yet their is no room to place down an elephant/mammoth. Warzone maps are suppose to be bigger than Ragnorok yet my Mantis has no room to strafe. And because of these restrictions the infantry can predict the movements of all large vehicles and board them more easily because of that. Vehicle Radar Range needs to be increased to 40m. The 25m radar range for vehicles is a massive bane when being assaulted from multiple directions. Or (and hear me out) remove boarding UNTIL the vehicle starts flaming, then the vehicle can be properly boarded, this will stop players from boarding newly spawned large vehicles when they camp at the vehicle pad of the garages.
4. Boss times/choices
The Warzone bosses are consistent on times (every 2 minutes) however; all maps should have set legendary boss spawn times such as 4 minute mark, 8 minute mark, 12 minute mark (This is just an example and doesn’t need to be set in stone.) March on Stormbreak is absolutely known for players quitting when Commander Lokogos is killed 2-3 minutes into the match, delaying his time and moving him to the Wraith Officer’s spawning location would be much appreciated.
5. Farming
Several of us have been on the receiving end of this by now. My suggestion to be a solution to this! If their are less than 4 team mates and 4 marines in core then have players spawn by both armories (so long that they are empty of enemy Spartans) and if they aren’t then the last spawn will be a conflict less zone on the map.
6. Marines
The marines are just there and respawn out of thin air. I suggest that the marines spawn in the core by Pelicans dropping them off. The marines will march out of the core and will attack the closest armory, garage/spire, then the furthest armory, finally the enemy base in that order. No one likes campers and marines are no exception. With them helping your team assault the Warzone will become far more chaotic.
7. Unclear Invisible walls/kill zones
This is best seen with any flying vehicles. Taking a banshee or a Phaeton you will find the map’s ceiling fairly quickly, now this isn’t bad however; there are several spots where the invisible barriers are difficult. Such as moving above the caves on March on Stormbreak to get to the Warden without fighting space in the caves with a scorpion. I propose that the invisible barriers should be marked with heavily rain/snow/dust so players won’t waste 20+ seconds bouncing around trying to find where they can go. The other issues with flying vehicles is when they use their “tricks” to move out of danger quickly and immediately hit a kill barrier with no count down. BOOM! No more banshee/phaeton because you tried to save yourself.
8. Core health
The core is weak and unstable, we understand that. However; when a tier 2 fuel rod or 3 smgs pop in and destroy a core from full health to no health in 6 seconds … Then the defenders start avoiding and even quitting when they get pushed back to defend their core. They should either increase the health/ resistance/ or add a rechargeable shield on the core to prevent rapid destructions by a few Spartans. Yes there are several games where this isn’t the case and we know that, but those are often games where both teams are slaying quite well or are organized enough to guard all entrances. Lastly; Array/Raid on Apex 7’s cores can be destroyed from outside of the base. This is often annoying when a fuel rod or a ghost snipes your core.
9. Phase glitches
Seen most abundantly on Warzone Assault this glitch allows players to infinitely defend an armory until disturbed by a gravity hammer. We hope you are aware of this and the fans would much appreciate a patch for this.
10. Real time map shown when dead
The Static camera of when you die. You can’t see your teammates, nor what’s going on outside of the camera. I propose a live 2D map that will illustrate basic features of the map, dots of where your team is, and locations you can choose to spawn from.
11. REQs
I hate to be that guy who spams “buff this!” And “nerf that!” But today I will hate myself.
Firstly, the Spartan laser (tier 1) has an insane charge time for the h5 movement and puts out small amounts of damage. I say Buff the Spartan laser! Decrease the charge time by 1 second and buff the damage so we can get a double kill from a swipe shot. The next tier versions can scale according to that.
Secondly, the mantis (all tiers). No more boarding from the front! Also apply the large vehicle changes so boarding can done once the mantis is on fire as well as having more movement freedom. The mantis’ stomp should have an increase AOE, the shields should be more visible, and increase the damage of the rockets. For 7+ REQ energy this end game toy sure falls flat currently.
I am open to changes to be done to this thread such as edits, deletions, and additions to this list to better improve Warzone.
