For multiple reasons:
-
In general how cohesive the game is and how it flows well with all the added depth of the variety of weapons, spartan abilities and how you can really develop your own personal techniques and playstyle around that. I’ve yet to play an FPS game that has this much variety in gameplay and mechanics, yet still remains total balance and adds a new, exciting faster pace experience, which is why Halo 5 is truly one of a kind.
-
Shot registration is as perfect as it can be for an online FPS (remember those bloodshots from Halo 3 haha)
-
Every weapon has a lot of thought put in it and has has been meticulously balanced
-
Map control is balanced well and allows a team to actually make smart pushes (remember standoffs in Lockout/Lockdown? Yawn)
-
The general pace of the game. It feels and plays like Halo on steroids and has taken the right direction (you really do feel like a super soldier capable of bringing an opponent down with just his bare hands/body), don’t get me wrong I love the previous Halo’s but if you had to ask me what one I have the most fun playing nowadays? It would definitely be Halo 5
-
How you can manipulate your jumps and shooting style (for example you go to an edge, jump out to get an angle, stabilize, get that headshot with the snipe and then thrust back, it allows you can make more risky/clutch shots. Or simply dodging a nade using ground pound stall/stabilize off an edge, floating for a moment, and thrusting back when your shield have recharged to take him down, that is the type of skill gap that makes a game great.
-
ALL the arena matchmaking maps that we’ve been given can be used in competitive play, remember all the maps that were one sided and impossible to take control once the enemy team had it? Halo 2’s Ascension is a good example
-
The skill gap of aiming. I’ve had someone put 3 shots on me and I swing around and 5 shot them. It is not luck, it is movement and aiming skill and it has never been better than it is now
-
The spartan abilities add a depth to Halo unlike anything we’ve ever seen because now everyone starts with them equally. They are easy to use but extremely hard to master and are balanced very well, for example having to predict where your opponent is going to be with a ground pound or a spartan charge
-
Being able to manipulate a map to basically make it your playground, with added sprint, thrust, stabilizers, clamber, ground pound stalls, slide jumps, the possibilities are nearly endless to gain that advantage on your opponents (sometimes I’ll spend an hour just running around maps trying to find new jumps to give me that edge)
-
Variety. I know I’m going to get some flack for this because of the size of the map pool and gametypes but they ARE in the works and we receive monthly updates. What would you rather have, an update that takes 3 months to come out or updates along the way that contain a little bit of each of what we are going to get? The really cool thing is the ability for them to add basically whatever they want to the game. I’d enjoy some more direct communication with 343 but hey I’m sure they’re busy people over there.
-
The customization options are endless and there is only more to come (hopefully 343 adds some more personal achievement armours to be unlocked, sort of like the new Achilles set but without a spartan company, maybe something for completing campaign on legendary?) I want a sense of accomplishment for getting an armour/helmet such as those stances in Halo 4, those were definitely a grind to get.
-
The satisfaction of killing your opponent, nothing feels better than getting that perfect medal or that reversal. The game plays so smoothly it’s impossible for me to go back to other Halo’s or any FPS for that matter
-
The competition! It really does feel like halo is back (#WeBackBaby), the pros seems to love the game and I love the fact that it’s catered towards pure skill and competitiveness while still giving something for casual playing like Warzone (I hope they get a bit more but I have to say for the time being Warzone is quite fun). When I see someone playing on twitch and take in their playstyle and admire their shots I know that they earned that and it’s just a blast to see someone go on a rampage because the game is difficult like I said, so I enjoy seeing it played at a professional level.
-
The fact that there is always something to learn in this game, new play style, new jumps, nade points, most importantly new shooting techniques incorporated with using the spartan abilities. All the other Halo’s I played I felt like I knew everything in a matter of weeks and that is was almost like a routine playing a game. Every multiplayer game in Halo 5 feels different and new to me, and has a huge skill gap that I’m not even close to reaching the peak of and I’m a daily player that has played a very considerable amount of time.
And that’s pretty much all the important things I could think of, hopefully everyone enjoys Halo 5, and the longevity of this game lasts for years!
