List of Issues in Halo Infinite

Hey there! I’m a longtime Halo fan, since Halo CE. I play mostly ranked. Overall, this halo has been really great, and I’ve enjoyed it immensely, but there are certain things that keep happening that don’t seem to align very well with previously established Halo gameplay or just seem broken. I’ve been trying to collect an exhaustive list of behaviors that I believe are issues. I’m sure that there are issues that I’ve missed and that others have written about in much more depth, but I still wanted to make an accounting of issues as I see them:

I’m not sure if it is intentional or due to desync issues, but people constantly shoot me through walls in this game. In past halo games, I believe that unless there were clear ping issues, getting shot around corners was unlikely. If it is intentional, I would like to make a plea: This is halo, not call of duty, please change. Key plays rely on whether people have protection after they get around corners and this is a longstanding standard for halo. This also affects the ability to peek shoot, something that was key to at least my playstyle in the past

Constantly get beat downs in situations that make no sense, from situations that should be trades but aren’t, to one shot from br and punches (I believe it should be 2), and even a couple of cases of just being punched at full health and dying

This is maybe personal preference, but I believe the shield takes just a tiny bit too long to come back up. I’ve been in so many situations where in most other halos, I would have gotten away, but didn’t in this game because shields weren’t coming up yet. I suppose on the one hand, this potentially rewards careful positioning. Don’t put yourself in the position to be one shot, in hte first place. But on the other hand it hurts the ability for people to make sick plays with utilizing their surroundings, like pillars, to get their shields back.

I would like to suggest that you please remove the oddball glitch on Streets inside of Police Department behind the counter. It’s already such an incredibly strong position that to be able to play the ball via a wall glitch makes it almost impossible to win against an organized team.

Hit registration on headshots sometimes seems inconsistent

I’m really ambivalent about how grenades seem to work in this game. At far range, everything seems more or less normal. Close range, there seem to be major changes that I’m not a fan of. On the one hand, it seems pretty cool that they have actual momentum and can be thrown differently. On other hand, throwing from the left hand instead of originating from the reticle seems to cause constant problems with bouncing the grenade off of walls unintentionally, and even catching invisible walls. Iirc all other halos throw from the center, which allowed for clutch grenade throws using the reticle aimed through small openings. Maybe this is still possible but a lot harder/less intuitive, now. I’m not sure how easy it would be to modify something as fundamental as grenade throwing, but I personally hope for a return to reticle origination, while keeping momentum.

spawning seems to be an issue. Multiple instances where enemies spawned directly behind ongoing fights and got an unplanned flank. On the flip side of this, I’ve had several instances where I’ve spawned behind enemies instead of with teammates and immediately been cleaned up, with no chance to get out, if their positioning and awareness is good.

melee lunge seems very inconsistent. Cases where I will be right next to a player and not lunge, but then later on, someone is halo 2 ranges away and smack me. Also experienced and witness cases where sword does not lunge properly, either.

Melees seem to occasionally not register at all. I have personally survived punches that should have ended my life, and vice versa. No collision seems to be a factor with this

Speaking about no collision, I’ve had cases where I should have punched, but instead flew threw an opponent, ending in extreme disorientation and death when it should have been an easy kill

please nerf the mangler. mangler shouldn’t be able to trade with a shotgun or sword

shotgun feels inconsistent at times. Sometimes it seems overpowered while at other times it seems underpowered. The shotgun should be able to stand on its own, but it seems like a primary technique is to shoot and punch. going back to the melee issues I’ve mentioned above, I’ve frequently shot/meleed with the person still living, not even a trade

please change it so overshield and camo are auto pickups or are considered distinct from other abilities in some way. constantly get killed because I unintentionally pick up an ability during the heat of htings and then make plays to pick camo/overshield up, but can’t

rockets frequently don’t seem to kill people even when you shoot them right at their feet

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Halo Infinite’s grenades bring back nightmares of the Reach Nukes. people keep on throwing them. My personal preference would be for a reduction in blast radius, at least in competitive and ranked.

This is another personal preference thing I think, but it would be nice if you added a tiny bit of additional aim assist for final shot so that jumping is viable as a consistent method again. I still try to do it, but more often than not it gets me killed.

I don’t know how much data was already collected and analyzed wrt overshield strength, but it seems a bit underpowered. Two people can destroy it so easily that its primary function in slayer gametypes at least is to serve as bait, unless there is extreme coordination among teammates. This is fine if you are on a team, but for a lot of cases where you aren’t on a team, its a death sentence.

This may be more of an xbox hardware or even individual issue, but several times while playing this halo, the game has completely frozen up for about 5 seconds. I’ve never experienced this before in any previous halos.

3v4 games are almost impossible to win in Halo Infinite. Whereas in previous Halos it was a tall order but completely possible, it seems exceedingly difficult to do here. Its a painful experience for everyone. Those on the 3 man team who have to suffer a loss without a chance, and those on the 4 man team who get an easy win that means almost nothing and is essentially a waste of time for both sides.

I know you are already acutely aware of this one, but I’ll mention that I think the ranking system needs to be fixed. It seemingly favors k/d over team/objective play too much. In my opinion, a win is a win and even the lowest player should get meaningful rank from it, as long as their stats aren’t absolutely horrible. Sometimes the stats don’t reflect the reality when someone throws themselves on the proverbial (and also sometimes very literal) grenade, and dies, to help the team make a key play, instead of hiding back to pad their kill stats.

Two additional thoughts that aren’t really broken per se, but I think could be better: Please add “Rejoin to Game” option so people will be able to come back if they just lagged out. Also, please make it so that if you are looking at your stats in between oddball rounds, you don’t start the game unable to run or interact with things without getting out of the stats menu. I’ve played other games where you can still fight with the stats overlaid, and its much better.
Has anyone else experienced any of these things or have additional thoughts for or against any of the perceived issues?

HELL NO do not nerf the Mangler. Buff the Shotgun to shotbash being a trade with the Energy Sword.

The mangler is a one shot melee combo. I feel that’s too strong.

I feel like the mangler is such a cheap kill, though. Almost guaranteed if you are anywhere near someone. Are you a competitive player? I’m mostly suggesting changes for ranked playlists.

This!

Games ideas simply too restrictive or limited.
Shields take too long.
Delays to switch weapons.
Delays to throw grenades.

Let us play.

This i don’t think needs changing.

Please no… Horrible ability and doesn’t need to be made stronger imo.

Yes…,

I can agree with alot of this, I’ve been tooooo lazy to type it out but I definitely agree with MOST of it.

Overshield and camo honestly should just be auto use. It’s annoying the way it is now.

We should only spawn with one grenade. Honestly it’s most people’s preferred weapon in my opinion it’s what kills me most because they are spammed.

Desyncing right now is so so terrible. I might as well not get behind cover because it doesn’t help.

And there’s more obviously…

Thanks for your thoughts! Fair enough on the difference of opinion on some of those. Glad you agree with some of them.

Yeah that’s why I did it. I’ve been seeing so many complaints across the board but as far as I had seen, anyway, nobody tried to put them all in one list. Hope they fix desync issues. Thanks for your thoughts!

This wont’ let me update my original post, for some reason, so I’ll reply, instead. I wanted to add one more thing. There is something wrong with autoaim in this game. I don’t know what it is, exactly. But having played all of hte Halos both campaign and multiplayer, I’ve never experienced this before, or at least never significantly noticed it. Namely, when there are two enemies close by, even if you are specifically focusing on one enemy, there is a large magnetism/pull towards the other player. This has already messed up a number of my fights. Again, this is something I’ve never experienced idn another Halo, so I hope it gets fixed ASAP.

Pretty much everything you mentioned wasn’t like this in past halos. At all. I agree with everything here. And yes something that doesn’t get spoken about is the underpowered oversheild. I used to be able to handle a lot more before. Now over shield feels like a wet rag

It was like that in the early Halos, including the og Halo CE. …But… I do agree that something seems odd like it’s more magnetized than before. It likely is the same but there’s a greater contrast so seems like there’s more of it. I once had a Warthog drive by at full speed pull my aim half way across my screen and get me killed while I was shooting someone.

Yeah that absolutely shouldn’t happen and has never happened to me in 20 years of halo

Its pretty much not worth going for, unless the team is god tier and can fully utilize it, imo

Another thing that I’ve noticed is that the game occasionally won’t let the player throw grenades consecutively. There seems to be a delay. I’m not sure if it’s on purpose or not, but it’s gotten me killed a lot of times due to my halo sense from previous games.

I wanted to make an additional comment on the ranking system. There are two particular things that are seemingly completely nonsensical. The first case is one in which a member of a team leaves, and the other teammate stick it out and play the game. In this halo, it’s almost impossible to win a 3v4, but we sure try. At the end of the day, when it’s a loss, though, I have observed losing very significant amounts of experience for that loss. Why are we losing anything at all, when the matchup is entirely unfair? Secondly, there are times when I have gone 30+ k/~10d and been punching up against players who are ~1700 onyx, winning the match. Yet I get almost nothing for it, when I would expect a signifcant boost for such a win. These two things put together create a very disheartening experience. It’s very unrewarding and feels horrible when you work really hard across multiple games to beat your opponents, gain some small margin of rank, and then lose that rank in the span of a SINGLE MATCH as a result of things like a teammate leaving the match, or really high ping matches that me with people from other regions, at times. Very very disheartening to literally spend hours to gain a small amount that’s lost in minutes… :frowning:

Going along with the 3v4 issue, I’ve also generally noticed that there seems to be a smaller skillgap when it comes to gunskill and ability to take on at least two players at a time. I’m not sure exactly what this stems from, although I’ve heard some say that its from the autoaim on the BR that makes it too easy to use. Even people like Formal seem to think that this is the case.
