From the beginning of Halo, Warthogs were freakin’ beasts; no-burn-out turrets, indestructible, and even had a first person front seat. Now after fifteen years, Warthogs are now burn-out turreted, destructible, and have third person front seat. It seems like down the line the Hogs are slowly becoming just a little bit more realistic. As with the title of this topic, what if the next step of the Hogs in Halo 6 and beyond may be given more limitations/vulnerabilities.
An Idea for a limitation I thought of was what if the turrets on Warthogs were limited; screw it- say it had eight-hundred rounds in it. Of course there’s the reality that not many last long in a hog before its destroyed/or the guy is shot off the turret, but wouldn’t it still be kinda more realistic.
Another limitation, well- more of a vulnerability, is a dying engine. A though I had while playing Reach and up is when I’m piloting a nearly destroyed vehicle, I always wondered if, due to the vehicles pretty bad condition, it’s engine would just die and the vehicle wouldn’t operate. Just think while your piloting a Falcon that’s on fire, or a Warthog in the same condition; wouldn’t it be kinda cool if the engine died and you just went spiraling or stopped dead in your tracks? If this were to be applied to Warthogs and other vehicles, it would happen a lot, but it would once again give more of a realistic feeling to the game.
That kind of susceptibility to damage could also apply to other features of the Warthog. Like what if its tires were to get shot off, or even its turret shot off?
I think if warthogs were made too realistic for example engine dying, it wouldn’t be very fun to play, especially as everybody would have access to power weapons.
Have a look at this video by Cageybee - you can see that the engine is a weak spot, we don’t need it dying out - Lazy Link
well, i dont really care about ammo limitation or futuristic tires that could be shot. Though the engine stopping could be some addition that could be thought of. But it could be auto-repaired overtime to get it running again but not in better condition over time.

Both barrels don’t have to shot at the same time; you can fire them individually at different intervals.

> Yes!! With an enclosed turret only vulnerable from the rear would be epic!
That’s too powerful. It should be like the aa wraith turret’s shield. You can only snipe from behind/ at a 45* angle. The shield can also be destroyed.
The open turret on the Warthog was a gameplay design decision. An enclosed turret in Halo 1-3 would have made the warthog unstoppable by all but power weapons , shooting the gunner is really the only defense against it outside of power weapons , or Plasma Pistol and Plasma grenades.
