Limited Time Vidmaster Achievements

Make extremely difficult achievements available for like 2 weeks at launch:

Ex:

  • 13 Headshots With a Sniper Rifle in 1 Ranked Match - 18 Warthog Assists in a Ranked Slayer match - Legendary Solo Campaign Complete With All Skulls ActivatedYou get the idea,

The Reward? A sick coat of armor, that everybody will respect. And won’t be obtainable after.

I think that’s not a bad idea in theory.

I personally wouldn’t like it to be the first two weeks though. I know I will purchase the game at launch, but I’m considering the people that can’t buy it in that time frame or come on later.

This is just wild speculation, but I feel that Infinite will be episodic in nature. Maybe have something for completing a set parameter of challenges for each “season”.

I do like the idea you have, though.

These wouldn’t qualify as good achievements since they are timed and not readily available for players to unlock some time after launch. They could be interesting challenges or commendations though.

Only the 3rd option sounds like an achievement in the spirit of Vidmaster.

Also, achievements are never temporary. Challenges were temporary, but I don’t know if Xbox Challenges are still a thing.

I’m not a fan of achievements being locked after a certain time frame, but I support the idea of there being some other sort of limited time challenge to reward dedicated players

I would rather them not be limited time. People talk about halo reach armour customization like it was the best in the series but I will stand by Halo 3. This is because of the vidmaster achievements. Recon armour meant something. Some achievements were simply not possible for some skill levels but it was possible for most. In ODST I remember trying to do the firefight achievement over and over again. Playing for hours at a time just to fail a wave too soon. The vidmaster achievements brought not only people together but also made an armour feel like so much more. I hope most people wont be able to get every armour. I hope some are locked to the great forges and others to campaigners and others to warzone or invasion enthusiasts. I want the quest for armor to bring people together like it did in halo 3 and for armour to once again be meaningful.

I like the idea but theyd need to come up with different challenges. Betraying for the sniper would probably happen more frequently than it did/does happen on halo 3

Yeah, no. Limited time achievements are just a huge middle finger to basically everyone who for one reason or another is unable to get the achievement in the permitted time period. I definitely wouldn’t respect someone because they happen to have an item I don’t, solely because I happened to buy the game later, didn’t have a lot of time to play during weeks after launch, or just couldn’t complete the challenge in the allocated time.

So, as far as I’m concerned, this is just a terrible idea.

Obviously you weren’t around for the HaIo 3 days when an extreme minority of players had Recon Armor around launch. Everybody respected them and wanted to play with them. I can’t value your opinion. You don’t even have any multiplayer experience on your Halo 5/Halo 3/Halo MCC service record

I’m sure most halo players are busy. I know I am, but I love the game so much that I would find a way to do these achievements if I was given 2 weeks.

We need achievements like Bungie day, however in this case play on 343I day and get an achievement so you can only get it once a year if you miss it.
Hard to get Achievements that go with some very rare armors. not just one set though like Achilles. Maybe 4 or 5 with each one being harder than the next.
Or perhaps some sort of public event and if you participate in that one time event you get a achievement call participator. idk.

Obviously, you know nothing about me, or how the Recon armor was obtained. It was not a limited time offer that could only be unlocked by completing a specific challenge. It was awarded arbitrarily by Bungie to people who did cool things in the community. There was no time limit to it, it was all down to whether or not Bungie thought you were worth it, which is completely different from your idea, and something I’d be totally fine with.

I want more unlockables like this. Similar to H3. Do something difficult; get rewarded.
i.e.

  • Get 50 kills in BTB without dying - 8 headshots with 1, 12 round, sniper pick up - Beat campaign on Legendary (with whatever skulls on) with the same 4 people - Get a killionaire in big team - Reach level 50 in any ranked playlist - Maintain a multiplayer KD of 2.0 or greater. Drop to 1.99, you lose your armorThese types of unlockables would bring me back to matchmaking. Make them difficult, but make the reward worth it. (and don’t ruin it by releasing a nearly exact version, via req pack, 2 months later.)

This seems like it would encourage bad habits like camping, killing teammates for power weapons, and quitting. I don’t think players should be encouraged to care about their KD any more than they already do.

With a lot of matchmaking challenges, you need to be careful about how that challenge makes players behave. I’m also a bit iffy about the other challenges that boil down to “get a lot of kills”, because this generally encourages a very selfish playstyle, which just makes for a bad experience in team based playlists. At the very least, I think any such challenge should be restricted to FFA. In team playlists, challenges should ideally be about team play (e.g., getting X driver assists without dying, transporting a flag carrier to your base X times in a match), and at the very least should have little potential inconvenience to teammates. I think a good one are also challenges that force the player to play a bit differently, e.g., hijacking X enemy vehicles during a match.

I agree.
My KD is is bad anyways. And this already give me a bad self-esteem. And it’s not only a problem from Halo: it’s from any other FPSs too. And I’m still learning to not care so much about that, but don’t want to get barried if I want to join with some competitive-coop group because of my low KD.
There’s need some other kind of low incentive, to stay fun even loosing.
And please, don’t bring challenge achievements like Forza Horizon 3. Every small forzathon challenge I complete, starts the annoying sound of rare achievements. I had turned off the volume of my television to make it stop.
