Just had a few questions about the limited edition of Halo 4 and the limited Halo 4 360:
Why doesn’t the limited console come with the limited edition of the game? It was understandable for Halo 3 and Reach because the legendary editions were expensive and huge, but Halo 4 only has a limited edition. I am considering buying the limited console because I have an old 360, but not getting the limited edition game with it is giving me second thoughts.
What is the deal with the 3 map packs with the limited? Are they releasing immediately? Or are they just tokens to get them at a later date when they release?

I can’t give you a definitive answer, but my guess is it was due to Microsoft wanting to balance price with features. They could have added the limited edition, but then the price would be pushed above $399. The consumer is already getting a pretty good value at the $399 price point. $299 base price for 250 GB 360 + $60 for Halo 4 + $100 for 2 wireless controllers + $$$ for custom console, controllers, added content, and a larger 320 GB HDD = $459+
The three map packs will be released post-launch. So you’ll be able to download them when they release.
Thanks. So then the limited edition game is a waste of money. Even if all 3 map packs are 1200 Microsoft Points, $15 for 3 different map packs will only be $5 more. If they’re all 800 points, which they should be since they’re just 3 maps each, I’ll save $10 by not buying the limited. Win-win in case I don’t like the multiplayer, and based on the videos I don’t think I will.
Cool. Thanks for helping me make my decision. Saving money.

My pleasure! Keep in mind there is some content that is only available with the limited edition of the game, however.

This seems wrong… 3 map packs at $10 each is $30, the game is $60, so if you want that LE exclusive DLC (armor skins, Forward Unto Dawn, etc), you’d be better off getting the LE version. You’re getting more than just the maps with the Limited Edition.

You also get to watch the director’s cut of FUD, exclusive in-game content, avatar stuff, a smexy steelbook case, and a small booklet about the Infinity and the SPARTAN-IV program. I personally think it’s worth it.
It seems at the least bit sad that if you order the Console, you don’t get some of the bonuses of the limited edition. With respect to 343 and Microsoft, £269.99 seems shockingly steep, especially when you aren’t getting EVERYTHING in-game that is available. If I spend £270, it would at least be respectful for me when playing online to never have to see someone in the one armor that will never be available to me as a player. It’s the same with the skins, I understand that you want to reward players for buying from somewhere, but honestly, if you’ve spent nearly triple what they have, you’d think that you’d get everything in-game.
The lack of armor just seems a little sad. I mean, I’m willing to put aside £270, but come on, you couldn’t include all of the disc-locked content that will never be available to me, unless I spend another £65 to get the same game again? I really don’t understand why I’d have to buy the game twice just to get content that is locked on disc (I understand the concept, and agree with it in this case, but not when someone pays for the “ultimate” edition of the game, and still doesn’t get all of the disc-locked content.)
At the very least, could you kindly make some of this content available in the future for those who don’t want to buy the same game twice for no justifiable reason?
PS: Don’t get me wrong, I’m not laying down hate without looking at the situation, I’m just failing to understand why paying over £250 for a game and console, you shouldn’t get all of the bonus content with it? It doesn’t increase the physical worth of the game, it’s not like giving all of the console editions a big book that costs money to make and sell, it just makes it seem a lot more appealing for all the collectors and halo-lovers, who hate to see something they can never have.

Here’s whats been leaked for the digital stuff that comes with the console. That Unicorn armor is freaking sweet.
I can’t see buying a 7 year old system with a fancy case when the next Xbox is coming out next year. It’s pretty much plopping down full cost twice in 2 years since if you buy this one and you already have a 360, I can assume you’re going to buy the next Xbox at launch.
With that said, Limited edition consoles are seen both for collectors and people new to the series. The fact that they bundle 2 controllers with it should be a sign that they are trying to make a value to get new users into the game. Collectors on the other hand are more likely to buy both. Since the console comes with a copy of the game, they can just sell that and pay the difference on the Limited Edition.
