Likes and Dislikes of Halo Infinite Gameplay

To me, Halo Infinite looks really fun, and I could 100% put hours into this game.

These are my opinions:

Pros: The overall look of everything is very beautiful. The animations, the camera work, and gun models are pretty nice. It also looks like equipment is back! The sounds of gun are also very solid, beefy, and not over done. Also the new blood, explosion, and other particles look really good in my eyes. The open world also looks very fun, and hopefully the campaign is still segmented into their own missions in the menu. The grappling hook looks sick and opens up a lot of opportunities. The open world also looks kind of alive, like ODST. Phantoms would come and drop of troops every now and then, causing you to either fight or change routes. It just made it feel more alive than scripted.

Cons: I don’t really have any complaints with gameplay, only textures and things like that. When we said Halo Wars 2 art style, I think most people were thinking more classic Bungie look of things. Some textures look too new and clean, and there are also no blood decals on the ground which was slightly disappointing. It does look like a T rated game, which means the flood might not be as scary as they could be, or they might not break apart. There are still a few months left for development, though.

So maybe by the time it releases, there might be some blood decals, hopefully somewhat scary and breakable flood, and a bit grittier textures for the things that look too clean. I should also mention that the footage is old from either early this year or late last year, and was meant for the earlier e3. 343 had probably drastically inproved textures.

I do REALLY LOVE the color schemes they chose.

Like: Open world. The return of equipment.

Dislike: Sprint and clamber are back. I would have rather seen thruster than Sprint.

Like: Open World, Grappling Hook and Chief’s Armor
Dislike: The engine looks hideous, the weapons design looks nothing like Halo, sprint and clamber are back, and it seems dual-wield won’t return

I could take or leave sprint. Thrusters were kind of nice, but either works for me. Clamber… never really cared if it stayed or left. The slide looked super fluid, and a lot better than halo 5’s slide.

Like:

  • Not abandoning H5’s core gameplay formula. - Gunplay in general seems nice and punchy. - Dem Warthog drifts. - Music has a very cool CE motif.Dislike:

  • Visuals are rough. I knew the game wouldn’t be some Crysis-esque tech marvel given that it’s a cross-gen title, but that was…really rough. - Grapple hook is a cool idea, but the grapple animation needs to be sped up. I guess getting a more effective grapple might be an upgrade, but we’ll see. - Weapon models look generic.
Definitely have some mixed feeling about the gameplay demo, but as long as Infinite plays well all shall be right with the world.

I liked a lot of it, I just think that the grpahics need a lot of polishing, and that there needs to be blood decals on he enviroment. There’s so much blood when you shoot things, it doesn’t look right for it to just disappear.

I liked the movement speed, pacing, and flow of combat. Looked like it will ‘feel right’. However, I will need to play to say that with conviction.

Happy to see sprint and clamber back.

I know it’s not gameplay, but like the simple HUD.

Can’t wait to find out more.

I liked everything except a few things: cartoonish gameplay graphics, the weapons look/sound generic, and the Warthog’s engine is laughable. It’s supposed to sound “meaty”, aggressive, like it means business as a military vehicle.

Agreed!

This is one of the things I noticed and instantly thought “oh”. There needs to be blood decals. If the flood are there, they need to be gory like in H3.

My only other complaints is some textures need to be scratched up and grittier, and some effects could be diminished just a tad. Otherwise I loved it.

Theres still a few months of development so hopefully they can adjust some elements like adding the blood decals, and making some things look worn!

The only thing keeping me interested in halo is that it’s halo. I’m mainly a multiplayer player though. Theres no other game that feels like halo. None of them.

What I really liked was the upgrade tab. I’m really curious about that.

What I disliked
-thrusters are gone. This was imo one of the best additions to h5. Sprint and slide are there…it just seems empty to not have thrusters there.

  • going back to equipment. This could be good or bad. I prefer innate equal spawn spartan abilities for the multiplayer…so I’d have to wait and see how this translates into the multiplayer in terms of what equipment is available, what it does, if it makes sense or not.

-grapple is weird. I guess I’d have to see what can be done with it. Could work…

  • bloom seemed pretty strong? I REALLY hate bloom…like a minimal amount is ok I guess but seriously I despise that mechanic. It only makes sense to me on weapons you can hold the trigger down with. Single shot weapons I feel shouldn’t have as much. The fire rate should just be adjusted if their aim was to balance spamming the trigger. I hope I’m overreacting…but come on…we hated bloom so much in reach that they made a freaking zero bloom playlist…

  • the shield recharge animation seemed weird. Maybe if the opacity was changed it wouldn’t seem so in your face.

I have to wait and see what else comes out to detail the game.

I expect the graphics to be improved in the 4-5 months between now and release, this is just a gameplay trailer. Things I want is more/better graphics, like dirt and mud on the warthog tires, more blood, and a tutorial (I’m not sure if we saw the first mission but it sorta looked like it) to help new players. I also want the warthog sound to be changed because it just didn’t seem like halo.

I’m not going to retype or copy and paste my entire post here so I’ll just provide a LINK to it.

When I first watched the trailer all admit, I got pretty excited. I’ve been playing since the beginning (Halo CE) so I’ve seen and been there through all of Halo’s ups and downs. What have the majority accepted what have they not accepted and so forth. I find that I’m older than most Halo fans. Anyone that sees my post on the forums know what I think about Sprint,ADS zooming look, clamber etc. When the gameplay was first revealed and you saw the chief get off the pelican I thought maybe they did it. Maybe they finally had the guts to get rid of some things… Then I saw the chief sprint… then I saw the ADS zooming animation and so on. I won’t lie I was definitely let down and disappointed but that doesn’t mean I’m going to hate the game because of it. I need to play the game as the finished product to make a final decision on things. I’ve now watched the gameplay trailers 3 times each. So early opinion is I have pretty mixed feelings so far.

I think it looks pretty good. The environments and some enemies. I agree with many other posts I’ve seen that say the weapons look plasticky or something. They don’t look that great in my opinion. I’m disappointed that the shotgun is massively changed and not a fan really of the look. Also what’s with that commando gun??? It looks like something straight out of COD! Looks like a dub down saw which was also a super dumb OP gun.

I think the music sounded pretty good. Definitely more halo 1-3 vibe, thank goodness!

I’m glad equipment is back! I’ve always felt like the possibilities for equipment was pretty endless. I’m not big on the grappling hook at all, but it sounds like it’s equipment in MP so that’s good.

I ABSOLUTELY hate how ADS style zooming has returned  …why on earth people seem to think it’s a high tech look is beyond me. To me the original style was WAY my futuristic (just update the look of it and there yeah go!) And from what all the lore people tell me, ADS style zooming breaks lore hardcore!

I’m disappointed that sprint is in as it just affects gameplay just so much. I know we don’t know MP yet, but it’ll be in it. Having a no sprint playlist will be garbage as the weapons and maps would have to be designed around no sprint and they won’t be. I can’t say I’m shocked though as I didn’t think 343I/MS had a guts to remove it.

Clamber I’m disappointed is back as I feel it’s a clunky mechanic! Again, we don’t know if it will be in MP yet, but it will be. I would much rather have thrusters and a double jump tied to it. Speaking on which…

I’m surprised that thrusters aren’t in!! Thrusters seemed to be the one thing that the majority of both old and new Halo fans seemed to like or accept.

I’m interested in seeing what MP looks like and if firefight is in the game and if so, will they finally bring back an ODST style firefight! I won’t judge gameplay or anything until I play it. I will say though that if MP is or has a Halo 5 feel to it, this Halo game won’t do much better then Halo 5 at retaining players, unless they have some awesome mode that blows people’s minds or something like firefight in it is just so super addicting. Halo 5’s multiplayer wasn’t terrible but it definitely only sort of had a halo vibe at times. Am I disappointed and some stuff, Yeah definitely… But I’ll play the game for a bit before I say I love it or hate it.

I watched the demo three times now… Guess I will start with likes… They kept modern mechanics, modern Halo should have modern mechanics. We have MCC for classic Halo. I think I will like the grapple. It was cool how you can throw a fusion coil now. Looks like we are getting quite a few new weapons. It looks like it’s going to be fun to play. The only dislike I have is the art style. The environment did look blocky so it makes it look unfinished really. The elite looked like he needed to hit the gym as well. But over all I am looking forward to the game. I just want it to function well, be fun to play and have a good story to tell. It looks like we are going to get a better story…time will tell.

Pros: It seems that there are now new mechanics, such as: the leg shot destabilizes the enemy

Cons: horrible graphics, no blood, no shadows, the textures suck, the grass disappears and the mountains appear as the player advances, the facial movement of the brute …, the truth is that all sucks

The only thing missing is for them to ruin the story, but I’m not going to comment on this since we have no idea what happened / happened.

Color schemes look great for the covenant and banished! I think they suffer by not having much in the way of textures, and everything in this game had a severe lack of lighting/gloss. Its like their armor didn’t reflect any light at all. Blood decals are a must. I’m not a fan of how the assault rifle shot thick orange beams of light instead of small yellow lines as bullet tracers. Also that commando rifle looked very call of duty like. The diagonal magazine and rounded edges combined with the green components make it look more like a modern military rifle than a futuristic human weapon.

Watched the show at work but didn’t have time to come on here to read/comment. Now there’s tons of thread and I don’t know which one to comment in haha.

Honestly I’m a pretty laid back and simple guy. It’s a new game and I can’t wait to find out what’s more in store. Honestly people probably have their expections a bit too high, and rightly so, given it’ll be 5 year between H5 and HI. And while the it’s still a demo, it’s still a new installment of Halo, and that alone is enough for me to look forward to it. We should be grateful and shouldn’t complain too much, and I’ve read numerous haha (voicing one’s opinion is absolutely cool though).

Pros:

  • Love the grapple. - I am now more optimistic about the idea of an open-world game (partially because of the grapple - fun movement is good for open-world game design). - Did not expect seeing throw able fusion coils and I love it. I hope to see more interesting gameplay mechanics like it. - I like the return of equipment. I have a few issues with the shield shown, but that is topic for another time. - I like the pilot. He is a good foil to Chief. Nice to see actual character dynamics, conflicts and set up for arcs after coming from Halo 5. - I also like how sprint is slow to the point of uselessness lol.Cons:

  • The graphics. Everyone seems to have an issue with them. I typically do not care for graphics but even I was thrown off by the way the weapons, armor and parts of the environment looked. There is just not a lot of detail in the textures. At times, parts to the AR looked like it was taken out of Blender without any texture applied. Ambient Occlusion seems to be lacking too. I do not think it is as bad as people say it is. I seen a image comparing it to Halo 3. While I do think the Halo 3 image was more aesthetically pleasing, the Infinite one objectively had more graphical quality. The tree bark looked good in Infinite while I could smell the compression in the Halo 3 one. Still, improvements can be made. Here’s hoping it looks good at launch. - The new weapons seem a bit boring. Save for the first brute weapon wielded, I find the rest of the weapons share too similar of roles with other weapons already in the sandbox. This striked me as odd because I quite like a lot of the weapons 343 added to the sandbox. They were unique and fun (the railgun, the SAW, the sticky detonator, the plasma caster.) I feel like they are going more for quantity over quality which is a bit of a bummer. Hopefully there are some nifty guns in the future. The other games also had the Forerunner weapons and I feel the same way I do about them as I do these weapons. So there is still likely more to come.

Duald.wield… so much time without it i was starting to forget about
