Lightning Gun

Rather than another reskinned Rocket Launcher like the Incineration Cannon, the Promethean Heavy Weapon should be unique. The semi automatic ZEμS (Z-type Electron Micro Striker) causes individual lightning bolts to strike down vertically from the sky to the ground when the trigger is tapped. Equipping the weapon creates a variable depth 3D targeting reticle on the user’s HUD that slides over the map’s horizontal surfaces like the ground or building rooftops, indicating where the lightning will strike.

Activating the weapon’s optional Hardlight Mount removes the player’s ability to move. Upon activation, the Hardlight Mount, a vertical shaft of hardlight, extends downward from the bottom of the weapon, staking itself into the ground like a traditional human monopod, changing the ZEμS from a mobile infantry weapon to an impromptu mounted turret. While the player is anchored in place, the thumbstick that controlled player movement now controls the placement of the 3D targeting reticle. The aiming thumbstick moves the player’s view with the 3D reticle always in the center of the screen. The movement thumbstick, while the Hardlight Mount is active, moves the 3D reticle around the screen within the player’s stationary view.

Not only does this introduce a vertical strike weapon but manipulating the weather, and using it as a weapon, just screams technologically advanced alien race.

Really cool concept! It doesn’t really match anything we’ve seen from the Forerunner arsenal, though. They utilize slipspace, ionized particles, and hardlight almost exclusively when it comes to weapons. Perhaps it acts like a mortar and launches mini-meteors? Or it could function similar to that one rifle in Elysium (the one that turned that dude in the hallway to pink mist). Still, would be fun to use :wink:

Ionized gases are what lightning propagates through.

Could Halo multiplayer benefit from a vertical strike weapon? Like a less overpowered version of the Target Designator.

I think it would deviate too far from the hardlight technology that 343i went with. Plus using the Greek mu would result in the weapon being called the “zemoose.”

I’ve been wanting to see a covenant shotgun be integrated into the arsenal, mainly based on plasma that has a very big area shot. I’d like to see more people use other guns belonging to other factions besides the UNSC. Like for example, the norm for halo 4 is arguably either a BR or DMR. I’m not saying that no one uses a carbine or light rifle, but most player would prefer a BR or DMR as opposed to other marksmen weapons. Same thing happened in Reach. The majority took the DMR over the needler rifle.

I want 343 to produce very balanced weapons across factions. Covenant weapons that compete with UNSC weapons.
