Has anyone here noticed that the Carbine, BR and Light Rifle are perfectly balanced and have an edge at their own range? but when you add in the DMR it wins at every range and forces you to switch to DMR if everyone in the enemy team has one.
The problem with the DMR is its dominance even at close range but this isn’t so with the much better balanced Light Rifle which is crap up close and even though it has the fastest kill time with just 4 SHOTS scoped in, nobody ever complains because its just balanced to be good at its intended range, just like the BR and the CC.
To make matters worse, all other weapons have to fight mostly on DMR turf, Halo 4 has mostly huge maps where the DMR’s X3 scope gains another advantage on top of magnetism, size of mag, lack of recoil, faster kill time (by a fraction but still faster beaten by light rifle when scoped in and ONLY scoped in) and the cosmetic bloom.
i would definitely use the light rifle as my main if i didn’t feel like the DMR beat it out more often than not. actually, the speed of the carbine is sweet, too. (though still less widely practical) this is coming from a guy who loved the DMR on reach.

Exactly. The DMR kills variety and I wonder why give us weapons with their own edge in a distance just to have one weapon to rule all ranges, with more potential kills/damage per magazine than all the other weapons too. And let’s not get started on the DMR’s magnetism…
The DMR needs to be debuffed at close quarters to make the BR a little more viable and prevent the DMR from being such an easy weapon to get results at all times with.
I personally use the BR and the Light Rifle at the same time, I don’t really feel the urge to copy everyone else’s easymode DMR.
“I’m starting to think people don’t know the fact that the Light Rifle is the fastest kill among the primary loadout weapons…”.
Scoped, maybe, and it doesn’t compare to the DMR if you’re only looking to carry one weapon. The Light Rifle is very well balanced, however. You trade close-quarters effectiveness for long-range effectiveness.

A lot of people know but the disadvantage of magnetism at long range compared to the DMR renders it useless. A DMR user can consistently beat a Light Rifle user at long range easily.

You hit the nail on the head. Every weapon has a trade but the DMR. And like you I try to use other weapons but just find it hard to win a really competitive match if I use anything other than the damn DMR.

If you can consistently put this to practice and maintain a positive K/D while doing this, you deserve a medal. Go ahead impress me.
Edit: Never mind, you have -600 k/d to begin with…
At least the LR has a skill element to it. Don’t even argue this, LR isn’t hitscan. I find it the closest rifle to the CE Pistol IMO.
Actually, it’s two shots scoped in, two shots from the hip. The fourth shot will bleedthrough for an extra quick kill. The hard part is getting the the scoped shots in, much harder at closer ranges and the flinch is annoying down range.
I recommend Stability for longer range engagement so flinch can go -Yoink- itself and not be so drastic.
It’s rather satisfying get those two scoped shots in and two from the hip. I have made a couple of surprise comebacks doing this but it’s rather tough to do. Perfect practice makes perfect i suppose.

If light rifle is better than DMR why are most people using the DMR and the light rifle is a distant 3rd? Why aren’t you using the light rifle if its better than the DMR? Yes it takes more skill to use, which is why people don’t use it.

Might change when everyone has the stability sidegrade.
I like the lightrifle very much, its such a rewarding weapon if used right. As soon as I had enough points for it I bought it. I just recently started using the dmr and it hounestly feels kinda cheap cause everyone else is using it and requires less skill imho.
After reading this thread I am going to switch back to the lightrifle

Well its nice you found inspiration to use the light rifle, wasn’t the point of the thread but OK lol
Now that I think about it, your post makes sense. I mean, I knew the DMR was the stronger weapon . . . that should be a given (switch to it and turn your sensitivity down). What I never thought of is how balanced the other weapons are when ruling it out.
I have no idea why the DMR is even in this game in the first place, just from a canonical standpoint. It was supposed to be the Battle Rifle’s predecessor.
Anyways, I love the DMR but I think it probably should be removed or just have its bloom restored. One of my biggest issues with Halo 4 is that it rewards people for just spamming the trigger on the DMR whereas in Reach you were rewarded for actually pacing your shots.

I used to love the Reach DMR, bloom and all. But having 4 utility weapons with one being best in everything kills the concept of variety the developers wanted. If any of you have the opportunity you should play customs with 3 load outs forced on player, the CC, BR and LR. Notice how you can actually move around in a BTB map and it actually feels better than hiding all the time because of the DMR. The light Rifle is great at long Range but not DMR headshot master great.
I use the BR on Sens 3-4 and DMR on sens 2. I wanna use the CC and LR more to master them. But always playing kiddies who can’t use anything else BUT the DMR is annoying. DMR on sens 2, it practically aims for you. First time using DMR on sens 2 I went 43 an 13. The BR,CC and LR are balanced perfectly. Once 343 reduce’s the magnetism and aim assist the DMR has I think Halo4 can be a lot better, also the boltshot should be fixed too.
