Light Rifle = Sniper

I’ve seen a few threads on here about new forerunner weapons that haven’t been officially announced and one of those has generated speculation that it is a new sniper rifle. Others, however, have said that it is just the light rifle, but that it appears longer in the promethean knight’s hands since these weapons change to fit their holder.

In this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAzYp51KWEI&feature=player_embedded#!
Frankie actually states around 2:30 that the light rifle is “effectively a forerunner sniper rifle.” He also says that it is “great for headshots.”

I just found all of this interesting and appears that MAYBE the light rifle is like a new sniper rifle and that it may possible kill in one headshot.

Just a little speculation on my part. What do you guys think?

PS: If you watch the whole video he talks about assassinating Crawlers which sounds…well…just awesome.

seems like it shoots too fast to be a 1sk weapon

That’s what I thought too, but it is very interesting that it shoots different ways when scoped and un-scoped. Maybe this means that while zoomed in, it is functions like a sniper and when not zoomed, in it is more of a utility weapon (DMR/BR)

The Light Rifle is a UTILITY weapon, we will likely be able to spawn with it. It only has a 2x scope, and it has to drain shields to headshot, why are people having such a hard time getting this?

In a nutshell, the shot it fires when zoomed has the EXACT SAME power as the entire 3 round burst. And whether it does 3 round, or single shot, it only consumes ONE AMMO per trigger pull.

That’s neat, actually. I thought it’d be neat if there were two-function guns, and this one accomplishes that in a very organic way. Probably one of the few cases, since there aren’t other gameplay tactical modes(such as zooming in) that we use to assist us in different ways with using guns.

It’s the weapon players have been asking for since, well this.

Do remember the difference between a DMR and a Sniper is not the rifle but the role. A DMR uses a sniper rifle, often with lower magnification scopes and engages enemies directly.
A sniper engages mostly in reconnaissance and high value targets.

Both weapons can be used for either role. Power is a matter of role. Hence the SRS-Antimaterial “Sniper,” while the DMR can cross map like a “sniper” but is magnified for short ranges than it’s capable of.

It’s not a matter of real life, it’s a matter of design.
