Light Rifle is SERIOUSLY overpowered

I noticed when you pick up a Light Rifle in the beta and you shoot someone with it, it functions and damages basically like a DMR. However, when you Smart Scope in, you can actually kill someone with two shots to the head. I’m already opposed to the fact that TTK is stupidly low for a Halo game, but two shots? Really? All that does is encourage camping and ‘sniping’ in one place instead of sticking with your teammates.

*EDIT: I noticed that it does in fact take THREE shots to kill people, the only reason I said two was because I had only had used it once prior to making this post, and killed three people with two shots in a row. Please stop trying to correct me in the comments as the person below has already done so. Doing this only cramps up the forum with useless text and leaves little room for actual debate-talk and objective opinions.

It’s 3 shots to the head, and I do not think it is overpowered. So far I think every weapon has been called overpowered since the Beta started.
Whenever I’ve played with it, I’ve prefered it over the Battle Rifle because it’s better now, but I’ve never been able to go on huge sprees. It’s all depending on the player’s skill.

It’s 3 shots to the head, 4 body shots. Plus it has a slower rate of fire and limited ammo. Josh Holmes did say that it was more of a Tier 2 weapon now.

I feel its fine to make it do more condensed damage when scoped in so that it defers itself from the other precision weapons, but that doesn’t change the fact that 3 shots to the head + the already apparent bullet magnetism makes it any fairer. I’m fine with most weapons in the beta, but the TTK needs to be increased more for almost all weapons.

That statement right there only really supports my argument, I noticed too when I first picked it up that I suddenly was actually going on a spree when I was doing horrible in that match. Does that make me more skilled however? Absolutely not. All it means is that I picked up a better weapon.

I like the idea that its becoming a stronger weapon and not just some generic precision weapon, Even though I disagree with the fact that just because it has a slower rate of fire, its balanced. You can still kill people in less than two seconds. Also limited ammo doesn’t mean anything when A.) Weapons on the map respawn way too fast and B.) Think about the Binary Rifle in Halo 4, it only gave you 4 shots, does that make it any less viable? Absolutely not, sure you can miss all those shots but all you have to do is aim for the body and its a one shot kill.

Do you know why every almost every weapon is being called OP? The Kill times on everything are faster than any Halo, or Spartans are weaker. The first step that needs to be taken is to remove headshot bonuses on automatics.

Yeah, I definitely noticed this when I used the new Light Rifle. I think it should have been slightly more powerful, but not too much since the Halo 4 Light Rifle wasn’t that great and I would rather use the Battle Rifle or DMR in Halo 4 Multiplayer.

Yeah. I think weapon damages should not be touched, however, I think Spartan health should be increased as much as possible where a BR is still a 4-shot headshot.

Only overpowered weapons are the Autos…

All the rifles can be easily dodged by the annoying Thruster and Sprint mechanics…

^^^ That needs to be an actual thread that 343 will read, I like a lot of the beta, but almost 90% of it is undermined by the fact that you die in a matter of seconds. And automatics are meant to be sprayed at people and be viable at close range, and the precision should be left out.

It’s a map pickup right? I don’t see what the problem is, as long as it isn’t too easy to use. Most ppl on these forums have been asking for more powerful Forerunner weapons and it seems were getting them.

I like the lightrifle. I just haven’t used it much because because it tends to lag more than other weapons.

Kill times are not faster.

Actually, they are. The reason why is because BRs in Halos 2-3 had a bigger reticle to make it so that it couldn’t be used as a long range weapon and the bullets spread, forcing you to aim at the center of it as much as possible. Halo 4 had a tighter reticle but had bloom so it still forced you to pace your shots and aim for the center. Halo 5 BR has a borderline Sniper Rifle reticle and has no bloom, therefore all of your bullets would travel and hit the same spot, and basically turned it into a carbon copy of a DMR.

Evidence is in this video and look at the reticles in both Halo 2 anniversary and Halo 5, they both are too tight of spread and allow for long range akin to a DMR. Although this is basically just saying about the BR, and not talking about the automatics, which give you an even faster time to kill because Smart Scope reduces spread.

Note how also he's aiming at a still target, how much longer do you think it would take if they were strafing and/or running at full speed?

how many shots to kill is it unscoped?

… You do realise that video shows a no-scope BR getting a perfect kill at its max scoped assist range while the H2A didn’t get a perfect kill while scoped? The H3 had the worst performance.
The H2BR is more DMR than the claims of the H2A and H5 BR’s. I can reliably land shots no-scoped in H5, it takes quite a few extra BR shots to down someone from base to base in the current Beta maps.

It now has purpose, personally like it if all promethean weapons become semi power weapons.
I much prefer how it us now over it being the reskinned dmr it was in h4

Its limited ammo balances it.

A precision weapon created by the super-advanced aliens known as the Forerunners should be more powerful than a precision weapon made by Humans. The Light Rifle finally has it’s own identity instead of being a generic BR/DMR hybrid.

I find the Light Rifle to be powerful, but not overly so. Remember, this weapon is a map pickup, a Tier 2 weapon. It’s designed to be more powerful and worth picking up. While yes, it is a 3-shot zoomed in, the low ammo and relatively slow rate of fire balance this out. I’ve found myself getting 2 shots on a player, only to have them be behind cover before I can land my third shot. Furthermore, it’s rather weak while zoomed out, easily outclassed by the BR and DMR. The weapon still holds its long-range niche, as it should.

It’s a fantastic weapon, I’m happy with it.

Well I find it pretty balance sense it’s just a pick up weapon, 3 shots sounds reasonable to me for a pick-up rifle with limited ammo.

(the lightrifle scope is so cool, I fell in love with it as soon as I got my hands on it.)
