Light machine gun in UNSC armory

Did the UNSC ever thought producing some new light machine gun and i know they did use the Confetti Maker but why they phase it out ? The 30. caliber LMG could be -Yoink!- useful at long range engagement in the battlefield ,sorry about my english.

I too, often wonder why the array of weapons in HALO does not include some sort of squad automatic weapon like they would in real life. The only conclusion I could come to is that the weapons in HALO are all determined by how popular they are in gameplay not how sensible or realistic they are. From my experience realism doesn’t sell because it’s, well, realistic, which means unfair if used correctly. But I don’t knock it too much because I understand why it needs to be this way for online competitive play.

But it would be nice if they had some additional realistic equipment for the campaign modes. Things like mortars, light MGs, smoke grenades, ect…

Yeah, the weapons in halo are not supposed to be realist. I think bungie want to propose a lot of different weapons in Halo CE but they were technical limitations so they just put a type of each weapon.
But halo 2 became a competitive game and they can’t add new weapons without destroy the balance, so they decided to make games with a type of each weapon, and -Yoink- logic.

It is quite possible that UNSC merely use the AR in place of an LMG.

For a comparable real life example, the USMC has started to use a magazine fed, 5.56 caliber rifle by Heckler and Koch for a SAW role, due mainly to it’s reliability and because it’s magazine fed, which makes it much less likely to jam than a belt-fed LMG while also cutting down on weight and size. And said rifle, (the M27 IAR) typically has a 20 or 30 round clip, so it’s not un-comparable to an MA5 rifle. Extrapolating from this, I wouldn’t be surprised if the UNSC decided that any sort of belt fed machine gun was simply outdated or too maintenance heavy to issue individually. But it still would be cool…

That’s all just speculation though.

They could at least use the LMG to supress their foes or mowed them down by ambush .
The MA5 series only had 32 to 60 rounds magazine they should feed them for 100 or 200 rounds to increased some chances of survival .
