Lifespans

I was reading through some of the lore on Halopedia, as I usually do, and I noticed that Gek 'Lhar was 59 years old when Paul DeMarco killed him. Our good friend Thel is also supposed to be around 70 years old,as well, right?

So how long are Sangheili lifespans? Is there anywhere that has this information? (The Bestarium perhaps?)

I’d also like to know about Unggoy, Kig Yar, Jiralhanae, and all of the other Covenant Species, if possible, as well as Human lifespans because Johnson was in his 80s, yet he still didn’t seem as old as Lord Hood.

Johnson had the advantage of being an Orion candidate, which may have made him a lot more durable than others. Additionally, we don’t know how much time was spent in cryo-sleep. It’s the same argument with John-117 - he is at least the larger part of 5 years biologically younger than his birthdate would indicate, due to all the time in cryo between the end of Halo 3 and the beginning of Halo 4. And we know that John-117 was in cryo at the beginning of Halo 1.

From other lore, marines are routinely frozen before shipment (Halo Wars shows it explicitly), as well as it is mentioned in the Evolutions short stories (for that matter Forward Unto Dawn shows the cadets being simulated through cryo-sleep wake up, because it was an expected part of the deployment process). So for an “active” marine, Johnson could well have spent many years in cryo-sleep between engagements.

I honestly have no idea how long any of the different Covenant species live for, I’d imagine that most of them probably live a comparable lifespan to humanity at the very least. Given their superior technology who knows. I’d imagine that Prophets would probably be in the shorter ranges as they’re a comparatively frail species on the whole. The Grunts feel like they’d probably have shorter ones as well based on how fast they breed, if they had really long lifespans they wouldn’t really be able to support themselves as a species with them breeding faster than rabbits.

And as for humanity, it’s certainly a lot longer than the usual 90 +/- years that humans live currently in real life. Given that things like cancer and so forth are dealt with even more easily than you’d deal with the common cold, I’d imagine that humans can live a fairly long time. I mean Parangosky is somewhere over 90 years old and still leading ONI like she’s not going to die anytime soon during/around Halo 3. So yeah, with all the medical advances and what-not human lifespan has obviously been increased quite a bit, my bet is that the average lifespan is probably somewhere around 150 years or so like in Mass Effect. Though those in the military that don’t ever get killed in action or those who do an awful lot of traveling are going to technically live longer than that due to cryo stasis being used for interplanetary travel. Like Sgt. Johnson for instance is upwards of 80 years old chronologically in Halo 3 but he’s more like in 60s or something physically and in terms of his biology.

The Covenant are strong believers in green tea as well as krill oil pills and a low sodium diet. This explains their long lifespan.

Truth was killed at age 156. Covenant health care is probably pretty good.

on the halo wiki { I will include link for source} it says: “The lifespan of a Prophet appears to be extensive, largely through the development of technologies to increase it. Such a process began in about 1552. The San 'Shyuum have put considerable effort into the increase of lifespan of their own species, as more than a quarter of their population are now super-bicentenarians.” so they actually live over 200 years on average

It’s modeled after the Canadian health care system

Also do humans live longer during this time (without taking into account cryosleep). For example, in the Mass Effect universe they say that most people live to around 120 due to improvements in health care.
