Librarian's Gift?? Genesong in John-117?

So are we just going to forget about this?? What did the genesong do to John after the librarian activated it besides give him an immunity to the composer(as seen in Halo 4). These are things we need to know! Can someone from 343I help a guy out here?

We don’t know exactly what happened yet.

It gave him immunity to the composer and MIGHT have gotten him more in touch with the domain.

I think she helped him connect to the Domain.

I doubt he got access to the Domain since I believe Forerunners needed their armor to access it and unless MJOLNIR is Domain-compliment I don’t think he’ll be connecting to it directly anytime soon.

I doubt he did either, but remember Forerunners could access it without their armor sometimes. (in a cryptum for example) I’ve seen it argued that John was dreaming in the Domain when he had the vision in a burned, glassed place and saw Cortana in the first Blue Team mission of H5. (not saying I buy it)

Yes, but something has to bridge that connection, like the cryptum. Just accessing it without anything hasn’t been shown to be possible.

I tend to agree.

Actually the Domain is capable of opening to people by itself. It did it so contact Bornstellar as he was falling towards Janjur Qom as the Halo fired on it during the San’Shyuum uprising. He was wearing armor but it wasn’t fully active. It was shut down or locked I think by Suppressor or constraint field technology. But the Domain is capable of connecting with people of it’s own accord.

Eh, you’ll need a stronger case than that since he was still wearing his armor. I won’t say it isn’t possible, but this far we’ve yet to see the Domain just contact individuals without some means of connecting to it in return.

In certain cases, the Domain has established contact with Forerunner individuals on its own accord, without technological aid like an armor’s interface or a Cryptum. When Bornstellar approached Janjur Qom, the Domain opened to him for a brief instant. Through this experience, Bornstellar felt the essences of everyone who had ever visited the Domain reach out to him and an unknown voice urging him to preserve the history of the Forerunners, which would soon come to an end.

Yet you also said he still had armor. It’s been a while since I read Crytpum, but do you know what it specifically said about whether or not the armor was a factor in hearing the Domain?

I’ll try to find it.

Welcome to one of the great questions from Halo 4 left unanswered by Halo 5. So far it’s just been a one-off that let Chief hear Didact psychically and gave him immunity to the Composer. Will it be addressed again? Hopefully, but who knows?

You ask excellent questions OP. We’re all still waiting to see if they’re going to do anything else with it.

There is something that is not brought up often and that would be the Argent Moon mission. Chief falls after the hunter breaks the bridge and then has that “vision” of Cortana and a Guardian rising up. It tells him that he must go to Meridian to find Cortana. Something allowed him to have that vision and my only guess would be a part of what the Librarian did to him and/or Cortana reaching out to Chief through the Domain. It does not make sense for him to somehow have that vision without the help of one or both of those things.
