Levelution and Weather Effects on BTB maps?

Now I already know what some of you are gonna say. Halo doesn’t need levelution, Halo should be simple, etc. yes I agree. However I should specify i’m talking moreso about subtle map changes and not falling skyscrapers.
I’ve always wanted to see stronger weather affects in BTB maps. Something so extreme that it does have gameplay effects, such as low visibility, reduced handling for vehicles, low gravity, etc. Imagine starting a BTB match, 12v12, and at first everything is sunny and nice. And then halfway through the match a storm hits and starts ravaging the sky and the map’s visibility goes down significantly. It’d look so good and produce a more gritty and “battle” kind of vibe. Thoughts?

I think that could actually work but at the same time I think it could go against Halo’s arcade-ish feel, if that makes sense.

I feel the same way, but that’s why i’d want it to be restricted to Big Team Battle and not Arena modes.

I mean that could work but even still, to what extent would it affect Halo’s gameplay feel?

Honestly only to the extent of low-visibility. I wouldn’t want, say, warthogs to start flipping from the wind or anything.

HAHA, I wouldn’t be against that for the lols. I mean, 343 would probably be able to pull it off without ruining the experience. If done properly, I don’t see why not. It all depends on the map design and ambience I guess

For sure. It just feels like a waste of resources, vehicles having headlights and spotlight that function but never actually have a use.

I agree that having such a map would be cool since it doesn’t violate Halo’s “even starts” policy but is an innovative addition as well, but for the sake of fast development I just think that having a map that starts in a thunderstorm would be a better choice instead of one that has a gradual transformation.

I actually never thought of it but yeah, definitely makes sense for there to be situations where those headlights would come in handy.

These types of ideas get my vote every time. I want weather and destruction, always have. Thumbs up here :+1:

Very true, good point. I wonder if Forge scripting would allow for gradual changes though?

I think that a special map that is actually very small but is on Installation 04 in the middle of a blizzard would be awesome. A sort of map where your reaction time and awareness is super important if you want to win and its mainly about close range combat. The idea just randomly occurred to me.

I feel like none of this is needed and ultimently gets in the way of the arena gameplay experiance. Its works in BF cause BF since 3 has always had a gimmic in its large modes. Its meant to make players feel insignificant. Halo isnt about making players feel insignificant.

I dont mind an active map similar to H2 anniversary, but random weather is just a big no from me

Yep. As long as it doesn’t advantage one team I’m all for this.

Day night. Weather changes. Dynamic walls / bridges that mix up the flow of the map.

Maps are always more memorable when there is a dynamic centre-piece. In the map.

In BTB have a bigger battle going on in background. Make us feel like we are in a war. Explosions in the distance. Vehicles and missiles flying overhead. Chatter over the intercom. Even random explosions and debris happening on the map as we play (timed and placed so as not to actually inflict any damage though).
