Halo 5’s level design kinda just follows that linear, modern shooter formula where you don’t really have much freedom and you just follow a linear path. Often times, when you move on to the next area the previous area becomes inaccessible preventing you from going back and picking up items.
The new Doom’s levels have that old school maze-like quality where it requires you to actually use your brain and figure stuff out. And you can back-track all the way to the beginning of the level if you want to scavenge items and it really takes advantage of the clamber in ability.
The older Halo games had interesting non-linear levels too.
Do you think Halo 6 will go back to level design that treats the player like an adult with critical thinking ability or will they continue with the linear corridor trend?
