Let's talk remixes

What is the general idea behind a remixed map? To give us a slightly different experience on a slightly different map.

Another reason is to allow i343 to quickly put together a new map in time for updates.

There’s an issue we run into with how it’s currenly handled, and that is that they seem randomly thrown out, and they also take up original map space, or spots, if I may express it that way.

I feel that there is a lack of focus, or vad execution of map remixes. Now, how would I do it? How did I think it was going to be in the beta?

In the beta we had Truth and Regret. One midship remake and a remix of Truth. Named after prophets from the original Halo series. Furthermore in the Beta, truth had the Prophet’s Bane, and was, still is, purely covenant themed. Regret was covenant themed with a clear flood infestation. What’s missing is Mercy, which I think would have been nice if it had been a Covenant ship retrofitted by Humans. See the pattern?

Truth was killed by the Arbiter
Regret was essentially killed by MC, but we see Regret later with Gravemind after which he disappear.
Mercy, while having an infection form by his throat, is kind of offed by MC.

The general theme would be prophet names and map visuals a nod towards what killed them. Furthermore, three maps in my opinion is a fitting number. I would also not go as far as to say there’d be an original map and then two remixes, but a collection with a theme, or map variations. For instance, that collection could have been called “Prophets’ Demise”. Choosing it woulf bring up the three maps.

Taking another example, Plaza and Overgrowth. What I think is missing is a Plaza construction map. We’d have a theme of time. When it was constructed, when it’s completed and then what happens to it when it’s abandoned. It could be called “Timeline”, for example.

So, instead of having an original map with a somewhat different variant, we’d have a set of three maps somewhat different to each other based on a theme.

Moving on from that, not all variant would have to have been at launch, but added through the updates, more than one at a time though. As long as we’d have had a good selection of initial Arena Theme collections / maps fromnthe start to choose from. We then get a glimpse of what may be to come, and we can speculatie and imagine what the next part in the collection is going to be.

Remixes aren’t bad in themselves, there should just have been a more thought through use of the idea, a better execution.

Atleast to me, the thought of having a set of map variations tingle my interest in remixes. The thought of seeing speculations what the next two variants in a collection is going to be based on the name of the collection and how the map look. Is the variant we have now the first, middle or last of them, is there even an order chronologically? And so forth. The maps themselves would be a small mini-story.

Here’s to hoping i343 continue the updates after Firefight and up the tempo on making more remixes along a theme, and launch new “theme variants” ( new sers other than those we have , so original maps if you wish )

PS: I hope I contribute towards constructive critisism and that this thread isn’t pushed immediately down by “complain about complainers” threads or flame wars about how there’s nothing but hate threads and then wishes for consrructive threads.

I suppose it would be cool to have an infection/floodified variant of truth/regret called mercy, but its probably too small for infection, although they could just make it more open

Well, I was implying that Mercy would be a Covenant kind of map, like Truth, but with heavy influence of human objects or how ever is best explained. Or even just a pure Human map with the overall Midship/Truth/Regret layout used, with small changes of course.

The map Regret is already kind of Floodified. With the point of having a theme with each set of maps, and what I called “Prophets’ Demise”, then Mercy would have to be human related rather than flood. Simply because Chief kind of killed Mercy.
