Lets Talk Multiplayer: Weapons

If you previously missed my last “Let’s Talk Multiplayer” here is the Link https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/6e35355aecdf4fd0acdaee3cc4156fd4/topics/lets-talk-multiplayer-the-community-vs-pro-team/fa2a8f72-a9f5-4803-8966-16e1671e3d30/posts

Recently playing a few games with my buddies, one of my buddies mentioned about how some of the weapons feel different and also how it’s easier to use some power weapons. I noticed that too while playing slayer, most weapons have increased DMG, specifically some power weapons. So i ask you guys the community: Do you think some of the power weapons in Arena have increased DMG? I’m gonna break down each weapon I think has increased DMG from its previous predecessors and give my opinion on the weapon. Let’s talk weapons in general.

First thing first, please contribute, saying things like “I think everything in this game is perfect!” is not going to help 343i further improve and fine tune the game. Compliments are great, but criticism is better, criticism is the reason why Halo 5 gameplay is a step above from Halo 4. People have opinions, if you disagree with one opinion back it up with some evidence, instead of saying “Your opinion is flawed” and give no reasoning to why it is. Okay let’s jump right into it shall we.

Rocket Launcher: Now the Rocket Launcher has always been a bad -Yoink- power weapon, if you control that part of the map you can seriously crush your opponent. Back in Halo 1-3 days find yourself pitted against a rocket launcher user and you’re doom and sometimes you can escape, Halo 5 however makes it hard to escape from a rocket launcher. Even though the rocket itself is suppose to be deadly, sometimes you can cheat death in previous halo’s it seems like you barely can on halo 5 due to splash damage is super high. Compare this footage from Halo 3 - YouTube at the 0:18 - 0:20 mark, in Halo 5 you would of got killed by the splash damage. Here is a Halo 5 rocket launcher video for comparison skip to 0:33-0:35 Halo 5 Rocket Launcher Is Still Good - YouTube then pause at the moment before the guy dies.

In previous Halo’s you would of cheated death and survived, but the guy ended up dying from splash damage that was no somewhat nowhere near him. As you guys can tell the splash damage for rocket launchers were increased and you would be lucky to cheat death(unless the guy sucks). In Numerous occasions i tried to thruster out of those situations but ended up dying due to splash damage. I think the splash damage needs to get tone down a few notches, so others and I can be able to cheat death like in the previous games.

Sniper Rifle: The Sniper rifle is really a deadly weapon if it gets in the hands of a true marksmen in previous halo’s. You can be down by 3 and someone with the vision of an eagle can instantly kill 3 people at once with the sniper. Well in Halo 5 everybody is a marksmen, it’s literally so easy to pick off people. I noticed this way before halo 5 came out and Halo MCC was released. 343i made it where the sniper wasn’t too difficult to use so players that absolutely sucked in Halo 1-3 snipers, will feel average using it. I can’t find videos to compare the snipers, but if you have Halo MCC installed play each halo from 1-4+H2A and tell me does 343i versions of snipers feel a little casual for use? Base on personal experience i wasn’t too good with the Snipers in Halo 1-3 and i would avoid, but in 343i Halos (H2A, Halo 4 and Halo 5) i could at least pop off 3 heads.

Railgun: Back in Halo 4 the Railgun was quite the weapon, deals tons of damage and you can decimate people within splash damage radius. Halo 5 railgun compare to its predecessor feels like it has been heavily nerfed, I question if the railgun is really a power weapon on Fathom, yeah if you got good aim you can still destroy people, but if your thinking like me and try to use it as a rocket launcher you’re gonna have a bad day. Epic Halo 4 Railgun Montage !!! - YouTube (Cringeworthy music) Here is some video of the Halo 4 Railgun, as you can see aiming near your target you can still get the kill. Halo 5 you directly have to shoot the target to get the kill and if you attempt to shoot near them don’t expect splash damage to hurt them. I feel like buffing the splash damage and decreasing the ammo capacity should do the trick, either i suck with weapon or something is wrong with it.

AR and SMG: Back in the Halo 5 beta these weapons were extremely overpowered, would kill a dude within seconds of firing. Now in the final game you can still kill a dude but would take a longer time. I have lost multiple battles to an AR and SMG user when i have a BR and that straight pisses me off sometimes. Honestly i don’t find these weapons really annoying, but at times i do feel like a slight nerf to them can bring the traditional feel back. In previous Halo’s you wouldn’t dare go up against a good BR user with an AR or SMG. In Halo 5 you have more confidence cause you surely can win the fight with little effort.

Warzone weapons: Quick question are most of the weapons just cosmetic changes and have no boost or nerf to damage whatsoever? I seen people in Warzone with silencer ARs, SMGs and BRs, but still do the same amount of damage as they previously would with the default variant. I was expecting weapons with Promethean technology would do increase damage, instead it just makes people death more satisfying to see.

Well that’s all i have for right now, I hope some of you guys can share some of your opinions. Next Lets’ Talk will be about Vehicles so be sure to check that out soon!

I agreed with you until I got to the part about the AR and SMG. Both of these weapons are now as they should always have been, they should be options to compete with other weapons within specific conditions. The ‘traditional’ versions of these weapons have always been sub-par and in need of improvement. I actually applaud what 343i have done. This is all just opinion of course.

Nothing effects the damage on loadout weapons except the damage boost power up.

The several attachments you see will augment a feature about the weapon, but won’t actually make it do more dmg per shot.

Long Barrel: Increases the weapons effective range (Makes the redicule turn red from farther away, and combines with a scope upgrade as well, with a battle rifle with the long scope and this attachment I can hit someone clear across a warzone map with little issue.
Stabilizer Jets: Reduces recoil on the weapon. Now at first I was confused at what this did, I thought it made it so the crosshairs expanded less rapidly (less bloom), leading to more accurate full auto fire but what it actually does it remove the screen shake and jerk motion that some weapons have. For example with this on a battle rifle I can fire and the redicule will NOT move, making taking shots effortless with no recoil to account for. I honestly think stabilizer jets are the best attachment for automatics and the BR.
Silencer: Removes your dot from the minimap while firing, provided you aren’t moving or are crouch walking.
Energy Bayonet: Makes your melee attacks with that weapon equipped deal one hit kills on normal shielded players. Does not effect spartan charge or ground pound damage. You would think this is the best thing but you need to be req level 8 to use it, and by that point there’s much more BS things running around then the ability to one hit melee someone.
Laser Targeter: Improves weapon accuracy. Now how this actually improves the accuracy I don’t actually know :(. I could reduce the bloom on cross-hairs when firing, or it could actually make the weapon more accurate in terms of its single shot potential. Either way I only have this on the DMR and I honestly can’t tell a difference between it and a normal DMR. (Perhaps because the DMR is already a highly accurate weapon it’s not noticeable)
Kinetic Bolts: This one is cool, it increases the damage done to vehicles and armored targets like hunters, and adds knockback to vehicles as well. Also has the sick Binary visual effect of killing enemies. Really strong on automatics like the SMG or just any gun in general for engaging enemy ghosts and other things on foot with no other options. Does NOT effect damage on players.

Thanks! did not know that. I always thought some were just cosmetic.

Plenty of people in Halo 5 are garbage with the Sniper, it feels like it did back in Halo 3, but not quite as difficult to use. The Railgun is literally so perfect. I already have its mastery, you just need to know how to use it. I’ve had an 11 kill comeback with that thing on Fathom. It. Is. Gnarly.

My concern is that the Storm Rifle and Carbine are not “power weapons.”
