Let's talk loadouts.....

Now, before you immediately comment and say “No! Loadouts ruin Halo! Get that -Yoink- outa here!”, please hear me out first. And no, before you say I’m some hardcore cod fan that’s come here to codify Halo, I’m gonna go ahead and say I’m not. I honestly really suck at cod and besides, I really don’t like it to begin with. Halo is my game, not cod.

In my opinion, custom loadouts are a thing that should be in every fps game where you play as your own character. However my custom loadouts idea is nothing like Halo 4’s. Halo 4’s loadouts were honestly poorly implemented, which is the main reason it generally got negative feedback. I believe that my idea for custom loadouts in Halo 5 just might work. Instead of 5 loadouts, you only have 1. In the loadout, you choose a primary, secondary (AR, SMG, BR, DMR, Magnum, SR, Carbine, PP, Suppressor, LR, or Boltshot to choose from), and up to 3 different AMs (Armor Mods). You start out with only 1 AM slot and unlock the other 2 as you lvl up. Say you get the second AM slot at SR-50 and the third at SR-130. In order to choose a certain weapon or AM for your loadout, you have to have the certification for it. You will not be able to change your grenades; they will always be Frag. This loadout will only be used for gametypes that allow it.

From a lore perspective, every Spartan has (or should have) their own loadout. All members of Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris have their own loadouts, so why can’t we?

Thoughts?

maybe if 343 decide to do this in halo 6 or 7 because they have already said they want to return to the arena shooter that made halo what it is and that means no loadouts, i liked halo 4 to be honest

At the time i didnt hate H4 loadouts, but wasnt a big fan either, but playing H5, im so glad they got rid of them.

So personally, no i dont want loadouts of any kind but thats me.

would actually like custom loadouts in halo 5 wz would be the only place i would want to see it

Maybe this loadout could be for Warzone Firefight.

Ultimately like most arguments there is no right side, just different opinions. The best solution would be if 343 could have two playlists, one with loadouts, one without. However given how hard game development is that’s not a practical solution so their best bet is to go with the system that the most people want. And most people (myself included) want Halo without loadouts. You could come up with the best loadout system in the world and it still probably wouldn’t be implemented.

Loadouts don’t belong in arena. Simple as that. Play Halo 4 if you want. Halo 5 is a step forward in the right direction for 343. Load outs would be a giant step back for obvious reasons.

Loadouts should stay as far away as possible. I like a even playing field. Maybe loadouts can work for Firefight but that’s it. No loadouts please.

Warzone loadouts are needed, once you go up each req level , your loadout weapons and armour mods should change for next spawn. So for req 1 you could choose what AR you start with, req 2 you choose the next AR variant and equip extended pistol, req 3 you get BR equipped and so on. Would save a lot of menu scrolling in game. Obviously you can tweak your choice in game, so if you’ve moved to the armoury you might want pistol and smg instead of br equiped .

The only way i see loadouts working well in Halo, is the way they did it in Reach. You don’t get to make your own loadouts, Instead, you have a few premade options to choose from. Creating your own loadouts in Halo 5 won’t work in the game for two reasons:

  • There is hardly any options to choose from. There’s is only 5 loadout weapons (Carbine, Lightrifle, etc… arn’t loadout weapons) and no perks or armor abilities. - Within Halo 5, there is virtually no reason to choose an AR or Magnum over the BR or DMR. This limits chooses even farther.

For Warzone Firefight or even just Warzone these might be fine, but I think that Arena should never have them again.

while i do miss my carbine from halo 4, loadouts should stay in warzone. its simply the way the game is designed, while other fps have a large number of very similar guns that preform slightly different from each other. halo has a small number of guns that are all radically different and frankly this means that one or to guns are going to be better than others and cant be balanced without robbing them of what makes them unique.

Firefight/ Warzone I would agree with but Loadouts would destroy normal Arena based gameplay, Halo 4 proved this and 343 learnt from it.

Technically you already do have loadouts in Warzone/Warzone Firefight. You can choose which guns you spawn with but it’s based on progress.

Why not do the custom loadouts like gears of war 3. Where there is just a couple of weapons to pick from and no perks.

If we’re talking from a lore perspective, don’t you think it would make more sense to train your super soldiers to be malleable in their weapon choice? It would make more sense to train the Spartans to be specialized in all weapons they may stumble across on the battlefield just in case they run out of ammo on their loadout weapons. Hell, Master Chief demonstrates this in every mission of every Halo game we play as him in, as do all the other protagonists, the Rookie, Noble Six, and even Locke.

As for gameplay, I prefer the Reach/Halo 2A approach to loadouts where there are a preset amount of choices and everyone has those same choices. It may not be as balanced as what we have now and have always had with equal starts, but it definitely has a better semblance of balance than custom loadouts.

I am am personally not a fan of custom loadouts and the style of play they create in general. That is primarily why Halo 4 was my least favorite Halo game and why I don’t favor CoD style games in general. This is because custom loadouts essentially boil down to grinding to get the best loadout combination and wrecking everybody who doesn’t use the same loadout. Notice how in Halo 4 pretty much everyone used DMRs and Boltshots at the start because they were definitively the best loadout weapons until they got nerfed. Then everyone used BR, Plasma Pistol, and Plasma Grenades, especially for BTB, making vehicle combat useless.

tl;dr I don’t like the idea of custom loadouts in shooters and the only way I could accept loadouts in Halo is if they were preset like Reach and Halo 2A.

No, I hated halo 4, loadouts were a huge reason to that. No one should spawn with plasma grenades/plasma pistols. Loadouts are not for Halo.

Sure I liked Halo 4 but the loadouts were a huge problem. Glad they are gone and back to even starts.

If they ever return loadouts…

…add it to SWAT, I want the choice to use my DMR not the BR… but of course they never added the DMR to SWAT (even though it’s on the SWAT background during the lobby).

I would like it but, as this forum has clearly stated, a lot of people would not. Maybe loadouts could be in Warzone Firefight. Other than that, I don’t think it would fit the overall competitive theme of the game.
